I’d give it way more stars if I could do that. ### 4/5 — It’s enough *2026-01-22, version 2.07.00* Straight to the point, biggest issue is crashing with no autosave. So just be careful with large projects. Everything else is fine. ### 4/5 — Ruined by Subscription Fees *2025-11-13, version 2.07.00* This was an awesome easy to use music making app until the original developer sold it. Now there are subscription costs to unlock tools that were originally sold as one time upgrades. Still fun to use Beatwave for recording purposes in conjunction with acoustic instruments though. Overall 4 stars because Beatwave is still fun and generally easy to use. ### 2/5 — Glitchy! *2025-05-02* I too have been an original user of this app from 2011! I too have experienced the repurchasing though that doesn’t bother me as much as the difference between the app. I have a high memory top of the line phone and I just repurchased Beatwave. For some reason this app crashed and won’t stay in any sort of tempo. Let your beat loop too many time and it staggers and glitches. Spend 45 minutes of your life making something cool only to have it crash and erase what you’ve been working on is atrocious. I do like the pattern function. But honestly, this app worked really well when it was simple. It was simple to just use the matrix and assign a key! It used to be super helpful in larger projects but now doesn’t reliably stay in tempo! Still one of a kind but honestly if it’s going to have more bells and whistles it would be nice if the app also continued to run right! Best regards, Paul ### 2/5 — Used to be great, now expensive money grabber *2025-05-02, version 2.07.00* I loved this all and created some amazing songs with the vast library of instruments...Then after not using it for some time, I see they have taken away a large number of instruments leaving us with a stupidly small number of choices. To add insult to injury, now you have to pay $70 per year for features that used to be free! I get that not everything was free before but they took a ton of freebies away?! I want this to STOP!!!!! ### 1/5 — ⚠️ PROCEED WITH CAUTION ⚠️ Developer Integrity Severely Lacking! *2025-01-17, version 2.07.00* Unfortunately, it appears that this developer prioritizes quick profit generation over delivering genuine value to their loyal paying customers. It seems it would be more beneficial for this developer to focus more on enhancing customer service by addressing and correcting long-term subscriber’s concerns, as well as building long-term relationships with new subscribing customers. ### 1/5 — Depressing experience. Don’t spend money on this husk. *2025-01-11, version 2.07.00* On latest ios version at least, have crashed twice, with no autosave functionality. This is on a free trial mind you, which is supposed to simulate a full purchase. Needless to say i will not be continuing with a monthly subscription. I just tried this app again after my disappointment with the new version many years ago. Foolishly, i thought i could have a similar experience with this app as i did during my childhood. When I launched initially, it almost felt great. I was almost having fun, even within the (extremely) limited production options, only to have my progress interrupted (again, even while on the free trial) by ads. Advertisements. In a mobile digital audio workspace. Do you understand how antithetical it is? To subject your user to be bombarded by ads every 5 minutes that disrupt the creative process and also crash the application? Easily lost an hour of progress by crashing out of the app during advertisements three separate times. I forgot the melody that i was working on was as a result of this. To the Dev: Where is the focus? Is it on making a competent DAW? Or just a fun app for hobbyists / for entertainment? because a competent app would have a standalone price, and a casual app would function. and so far, this iteration of Beatwave does neither. Barebones vst’s / soundbanks. Lack of customization / synth modulation. Piano roll constricted to specific keys only. Terrible fx quality. Low fidelity bitrate exporting. And of course, crashes and inane ad bombing. My last review also, somehow went missing or got deleted. Maybe because I complained about how my prior micro-transactions / full purchase of the older version getting completely wiped away? along with all of my older tracks too. I’ve also seen the dev replying to other people telling them to email for compensation for lost purchases. Yet it’s interesting because I never got such a response when I made my review years ago. What a damn shame. This app used to be so special to me. At the very least, Dev (devs), as a form of recompense you could actually leave this review up for once instead of hiding / deleting it, because that just reads like you’re hoping to scam people into paying for a lesser FL mobile. Yet when I come to the AppStore it’s telling to me download it as if I don’t. When I do, I then have 2 apps, one with all my music, and then I guess this version which has ads and says I never made any purchases when I have YEARS ago. Also when I try to copy and paste my work it doesn’t sound the same at all in the new app and actually sounds off. They got rid of G under G# and replaced it with F# and now it’s spaced at 5 beats per box vs 4. Best regards, Beatwave Team ### 1/5 — Used to be the best app ever *2024-03-31, version 2.07.00* Man I own this app when it first came out and made some of the best beats ever back in 2012 and such. Now the app is just shish with a payed subscription of 50 dollars a year. It’s really sad how updates and not being able to buy a lifetime usage really killed this once beautiful app. Rest in peace old Beatwave 🫡🫡🫡 😭😭😭😭 ### 1/5 — This app is borderline a scam *2024-03-03, version 2.07.00* The original developer of this app sold it to MWM and they turned an app where you could buy music packs individually to gain new sounds to use into a subscription based service where they haven't updated the app in more than a year which makes it seem as if they gave up on this app. If anyone wants to get into making music on their mobile device you should probably use FL Studio Mobile ($12.99 at the time of posting this review). It is paid but the sounds and the things you can do are greater than the things you could ever do in Beatwave, and I know that is the case whether it was the old version of this app by the previous developer, or whatever this borderline scam of a shell of what this app used to be could do, because I have used FL Studio Mobile. It is rated #2 as a music app (the #1 app is not even used for creating music). This app is rated so low it isn't even in the top 200 music apps so please don't get this app and instead get FL Studio Mobile. It does have a bit of a learning curve but it is more for people who want to create music at a intermediate level instead of a beginner level, which is what I'm assuming this application is for. You can look up tutorials and you will be happier using FL Studio Mobile instead. This app is phenomenal and always has been from the very beginning. Although, since I’ve been using this app for the past 7 years straight almost every single day it hurts to feel this app will become abandoned. I know certain things can’t be recovered due to just lack of attention but this app is so good! The sound are very well pitched, it incredibly easy to pick up and learn on and make something within minutes, and it’s just all in all makes for a very, very unique music maker. The problem off top are… well I’m not saying these are easy fixes but here they are- -App Randomly Shutting Down -Random Sound Bursts When Interrupted With Phone Calls/Hanging Up/Or In The Middle of Usage -Pressing “Stop Recording” Causes App To Freeze -Pressing Project Occasionally Freezes App -Having App On Loop For Too Long Will Cause It To Glitch Out And Close Randomly -Attempting To Copy & Past Square On Grid Frequently Glitches Forcing App To Close And honestly that’s pretty much it. Not too much just mainly the app closing randomly. All I’m saying is the songs I’ve made on this app are timeless, sound so good and came out so well I couldn’t believe I could make those songs. Tbh y’all could go even further with app and add little by little and I’ll still support 100%. The songs I’ve made on here are so nostalgic to me & the noises, this app disappearing would honestly be so sad to see. It’s been 2 years since the last update and I’ve still been able to produce high quality music from this thing! Then I found Beatwave in 2021. It just clicked with me - I loved how I could place the notes on a grid, move them around and add effects easily. Within a few minutes I was able to make a track. It even samples via my iPad microphone. I have made 14 albums with it and published them on Spotify and Bandcamp and I’ve gigged with it, triggering sections live. It’s a brilliant tool and worth the annual subscription. It would be great to have some new sounds and drums in the next update if you’re offering 😉.
