## What is Beaver FP?

Built by Rob Armstrong, a solo founder making Canadian retirement planning private by design.

Beaver FP is retirement planning for Canadians, and nothing else. No bank logins, no transactions to sort, no budgets to track: just your plan, year by year, from today through retirement.

Start in Minutes

Quick Plan's seven short screens lay out your whole retirement. Add detail whenever you like: every income, account, pension, loan and expense.

Financial Insights

Your plan, examined. Ranked recommendations, each priced in today's dollars, with one tap to apply: CPP and OAS timing, RRSP meltdown, RRSP or TFSA, your withdrawal order, pension splitting, spousal RRSPs, paying off debt, and a fix for any working year that falls short. Choose what matters most, spending it all, balance or leaving a legacy, and they're ranked that way. Plus answers to three big questions: • How early could you retire? • How much more could you spend? • What investment return does your plan actually need?

Stress Testing

Will your plan survive a bad decade? Run up to 1,000 simulated lifetimes against market ups and downs and see the odds your money lasts: the median outcome, the most-likely zone, and realistic best and worst cases. Or overlay historical events on your plan.

Every Year in Detail

• Year-by-year projections with full federal and provincial tax • Tap any number to see how it was calculated • A Year Summary that reconciles every account and loan • Eleven charts, from investment growth to OAS clawback • Plan Overview: money flows, a timeline of your milestones, and the steps to carry out your plan

Built for Canadian Retirement

• TFSA, RRSP and RRIF, spousal RRSP, FHSA, DCPP, and LIRA and LIF, with contribution room tracked • CPP from 60 to 70, OAS with clawback, and GIS • Defined benefit pensions with bridge benefits and CPP integration • Tax for every province and territory, with CPP and EI premiums • Pension income splitting for couples

Planning Tools

• Choose the order you save into and draw from your accounts • RRSP meltdown strategies and capital gains on non-registered savings • Paid-off loan payments: when a loan is paid off, its payment goes onto your other loans, then into savings • Overrides for any year: a raise, a big expense, a paused contribution, a mortgage payment holiday • Change Retirement Date, Retirement Lifestyle and Adjust Retirement Savings, each with a live dollar impact

Couples

• Each person's incomes, accounts, retirement age and longevity • Estate transfers on death, and a combined household view

Reports

A PDF report with an executive summary, your inputs and overrides, detailed projections and charts, for you, your partner or your advisor.

### 5/5 — Nicely done; I will be getting lots of use out of it.

*2026-09-17*

A really good application with lots of flexibility and options, yet not too daunting to get started with. I’ve been using it a few weeks and quite happy with the clarity it provides, and the ease with which I can modify assumptions and potential future choices and get nice visual results to the impacts of my choices. It assumes some financial knowledge to start with, but is a powerful modelling tool and saves lots of manual calculation and potential errors.

### 1/5 — Aggressive subscription pop-ups

*2026-09-11*

Giving this app a 1 simply because despite what their website advertises, it’s entirely unusable without a costly subscription. Added basic info for myself and my spouse and I can no longer click ANYTHING without a subscription popup.

### 5/5 — Finally, a Canadian retirement tool that gets the tax details right

*2026-08-05*

I've tried other planing apps and a couple of spreadsheets, and they all fall apart in the calculations. Beaver FP doesn't. I modelled my spouse’s and my drawdown side by side — RRSP-to-RRIF conversion, pension income splitting, the spousal age election — and the numbers matched what we worked out by hand. That's the part that sold me: it's not a toy that spits out a "4% rule" number or shows only graphs, it actually models the mechanics and you can see the numbers and calculations and edit most of them.
The Mac version is a proper native app, not a stretched-out phone screen. I like the dark mode too. The PDF report it generates is something I could actually follow. I would like it to store the plans for me in the cloud, but I can export and import them and that works well.

### 5/5 — Easy to use and not expensive

*2026-07-10*

I found the tool easy to use but you can drill down into the details if you want. It was pretty reasonably priced for such a big tool

### 5/5 — Planning tool for retirement

*2026-06-24*

Great tool… simple to easily get the basics but complex
enough to get into the weeds with lots of scenarios. Worth it!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.7 — 2026-10-25

Financial Insights was improved and enhanced for couples.

### 2.6 — 2026-10-18

Enhanced analytics. Updated privacy and terms.

### 2.5 — 2026-09-30

Financial Insights: new recommendations. Save in your RRSP or your TFSA, compared at the same cost after the tax refund; the withdrawal order that leaves you best off; pay a loan off faster, then save its payments; reinvest all of your retirement surplus; and when a working year falls short, the year, the cause and a fix you can apply. Retiring debt-free on a cheap mortgage now shows what it costs, so you can choose it knowingly. Switching what matters most re-prices the cards in place.

Paid-Off Loan Payments: a new Plan Settings section puts a paid-off loan's payment onto your loans charging more than a rate you choose, highest rate first, then into savings. Financial Insights suggests the rate for your plan.

Overrides: a contribution or loan payment can now be changed, not only added to, so you can pause a contribution or take a mortgage payment holiday. Moving savings into unused TFSA or RRSP room includes the tax on the gain and the RRSP refund.

PDF report: sharp charts, every override and the plan settings that change results, and loan tables that add up.

Calculation improvements: a loan paid off in the year of death includes that year's interest; a line of credit entered at $0 repays its advances; extra payments stop at the balance; a plan that runs short shows a goal under 100% and an estate of $0. Changing the plan start year now starts balances on January 1 and carries contribution room and overrides forward. If you changed your start year before, check your balances and contribution room against your statements.

Also: help pages brought up to date, section headings on the Loan, Expense and Income screens, and changes are saved the moment you make them.

### 2.4 — 2026-09-24

Plan Overview: three tabs. Money Flows; a Timeline of your milestones on a true year scale, one line per person; and Steps, your implementation plan: when to apply for CPP, OAS, GIS and pensions, convert accounts, close an FHSA, and contributions that exceed your room. The PDF prints the same list.

Financial Insights: choose what matters most, Spend it all, Balanced or Leave a legacy, and opportunities are valued and ranked that way. A new card prices unlocking half of a locked-in account when it converts, where your province allows it.

Locked-in accounts: mark a LIRA or DCPP as already a LIF, or elect the one-time unlocking; the Year Summary shows each account's required minimum and LIF maximum, and conversion steps are sized so the LIF can pay the withdrawal.

Quick Plan: seven short screens, with your province, retirement age, a pension from your job, savings by account, home and debts, and spending in retirement, opening on your Financial Insights.

Calculation improvements: CPP contributions and EI premiums are withheld from employment income; basic personal amounts rise with the tax brackets; a LIF pays at most its province's maximum, and its minimum applies from the year after conversion; the retirement percentage applies from the retirement month; with the younger-spouse election, RIF minimums start the year after you turn 71 at your spouse's-age factor.

Also: changing your retirement age offers to update the ages that depend on it, the retirement year is marked in the grid, the PDF's tax details show the tax the plan assessed with a CPP and EI column, and the app is named Beaver FP on the Mac.

### 2.3 — 2026-09-18

Simulation grid: Total Income now includes pensions, CPP, OAS, GIS, dividends and withdrawals, with a column per source when you expand it. Net Cash Available and Available Balance match the Year Summary and the PDF, and tapping any income or cash cell shows the year's arithmetic with a mini chart across the years.

Year Summary: the whole year on one screen. Rows expand to incomes, pensions, accounts, expenses and loans; investments, debt and net worth reconcile from the start of the year to the end; couples see You and Spouse side by side. Navigation between features is improved: charts and the Plan Overview hand off to the grid at any year and back.

Pensions explained: tap a pension to see its basis, early or late start adjustment, indexing, bridge, CPP integration and months paid, including both rates in the year you turn 65.

Calculation improvements: survivor pensions now reach your cash, reinvested dividends raise the cost base so they are not taxed twice, partial OAS is fixed at the start year, and the OAS Clawback chart shows the income it was based on for everyone.

Also: every per-person screen shows whose it is with a one-tap switch, the Cash Flow chart separates reinvested money from idle cash, and the Year Summary and tax calculation open as proper sheets on Mac, iPad and iPhone.
