## What is Bees Knees?

Bees Knees is the simple, reliable way to manage your apiaries from the hive side — built for beekeepers, by beekeepers.
Record a full hive inspection in seconds with glove-friendly controls: colony strength, stores and brood, queen sightings, disease and varroa checks, swarm signs and the actions you took. Everything is saved on your phone first, so it works perfectly in the apiary with no signal — and syncs automatically to your free Bees Knees web account when you're back online.

Bees Knees is a free companion to the free Bees Knees website. Create an account on either, and your records follow you everywhere. You stay in control of your data — manage your account and delete it at any time, from the app or the web.

### 1.6.0 — 2026-09-15

YOUR MEDICINES RECORD, READY FOR AN INSPECTOR: The veterinary medicine administration record you must keep for five years is now on the phone, laid out to match the official card: date, product, batch number, place of purchase, colonies treated, dose, withdrawal period and disposal. It shows the same rows and the same dates as the website, including the day each withdrawal period ends. Open it from the menu under Write it down, or from the print button on the Treatments list.

SEASON REPORT: One page per year: colonies on the books at the start and end of the year, hives added, losses as they stand, inspections, honey from your own bees, treatments given, feeding, and money per currency. Pick any year that holds a record. Under Reports.

INSPECTION HISTORY: Every inspection, hive by hive and in date order, the record book a bee inspector would ask to see. Filter to one hive or one year, or print the lot.
Dead and sold hives stay in the book. Under Reports.

HIVE QR LABELS: The app could scan a hive label and could not print one. Now it prints a sheet, three labels to a row, or a single label from a hive's page. The code never changes, so a label survives renaming, renumbering and moving the hive. Under At the hive in the menu, and in each apiary's menu.

ALSO IN THIS BUILD: A colony rating left blank on the website used to show on the phone as 5. It now shows as blank, and stays blank if you edit the inspection on the
phone. Editing an inspection that never recorded a time no longer stamps the current time on it. A hive label scanned while signed out opens nothing.

SELL YOUR HONEY FROM YOUR PHONE: Sales, customers and your product list are now in the app, not just on the website. Record a sale at the gate or on a market stall in a few taps: pick the jar, set how many, done. The totals add themselves up, and what you sell comes off your stock.
Save the people who buy from you regularly and a repeat sale takes seconds.
Everything syncs with the website both ways, so anything you have already entered there is here waiting for you.

ASIAN HORNET SIGHTINGS: Record what you saw and where, whether a nest is suspected nearby, and whether you have reported it. The GOV.UK reporting guidance is one tap away, so you are not hunting for it while standing in a field.

POLLEN AND FORAGE: Log what is coming in and the colour of the load. Your own records for the current month are gathered at the top, most seen first, so you can see what
your bees are working right now.

QUEEN CELL TIMING: You found a queen cell. Tell the app what you saw and on what day, and it works out when she should emerge, when to leave the colony alone, and when it is worth looking for eggs. Every figure is shown with the source it came from.

A FULL MENU: Everything the app can do is now on one screen, grouped by when you would use it, with a line under each entry saying what it is for.
HONEY SALES NOW COUNT AS INCOME: Your sales were only added up on the website, so the app showed a smaller income for the same books. Paid sales now count in Reports, and the total shows how much of it came from honey. They are listed under Financials as well, the same as on the website, and tapping one opens the sale.

YOUR HIVE COUNT NOW MATCHES THE WEBSITE: Hives you archived on the website could still show as active on the phone, and editing a hive here could quietly bring an archived one back. Both are fixed, and so is the reason the first fix did not take: the app was never sent the archived state at all, so it had nothing to hide. It reads your account again once after this update and picks up everything it missed, including hives and sales entered on the website before the app knew about them.
Archived hives now have their own section under each apiary, with the count in the heading, so they are out of your lists and totals without disappearing. Archiving and restoring stay on the website.
If the app and the website ever disagree again, Settings has a new Refresh from the website, which reads your whole account and takes the website copy.
Anything you entered on the phone is sent up first.

DATES NO LONGER MOVE BY A DAY: Between late March and late October, picking a date for a harvest, an inspection, a feed or a sale could save it as the day before. That is fixed. Dates you have already recorded are unaffected.

CHANGES NO LONGER GO MISSING: When several changes were waiting to sync at once, the app could tick one off against another one's answer, so something you had entered could quietly fail to reach the website without being counted as failed. Fixed.

EASIER TO READ: The figures on your Dashboard and Reports were printed in honey gold, which is hard to read on a pale card in daylight. They are in ink now, with the colour
kept for the icon beside them.
The small gold icons throughout the app were paler still. They are a deeper amber in the light theme now, and stay gold in the dark theme where gold reads
well. The honey colour is kept for the backgrounds behind them, so nothing has lost its warmth.
Every screen now has a proper line under its title bar.

SMALLER THINGS: Queens now record which queen they were raised from, the same as the website.
Prices no longer accept something like 9.9.9, which quietly became nothing.
Your sales list is in the same order here as on the website.
Frames harvested can now go up to 1000, the same as the website, so a pooled extraction from several hives fits. You can type the number instead of tapping the plus button.

This version needs iOS 15 or later.

SYNCING IS MUCH MORE RELIABLE: A single record the app could not store used to quietly stop everything syncing. That can no longer happen. Changes that fail to sync are no longer silent either: you will see how many there are, with a button to try again.
YOUR HIVES NOW MATCH THE WEBSITE: Hives you archived on the website were still showing in the app. They are hidden here now too, and every inspection, harvest and treatment underneath them is untouched.
Honey you bought in, were given, or extracted from several hives at once now reaches the app.
HARVEST FIGURES ARE RIGHT: Harvests recorded in jars were counting as nothing on the dashboard, the reports and the hive pages. They count properly now. Honey you did not produce yourself is kept out of your own production totals, the same as on the website.
A NEW LOOK: Cleaner type, sharper edges, and the honey gold saved for the things that need your attention rather than spread across every screen.
Dark mode has been redesigned rather than simply inverted, and every screen was checked for readability.
EASIER TO READ: Labels and buttons that were too pale to read in bright light have been darkened.
REMINDERS: Reminders created on another device now come through as notifications on this one.
SMALLER THINGS: The app no longer asks for microphone access when it opens. It asks the first time you tap the microphone, where it can explain itself.
The app starts faster and can no longer get stuck on the opening screen.
Everything the app needs to draw itself is now built in, so it looks right in an apiary with no signal.

Never lose track of which hive is which. 

NEW: Hive QR labels. Print them free from the web app, laminate, and stick one on each hive. Scan with the button on the home screen, the Active Hives list, or right inside the inspect flow, and the correct hive opens instantly, ready to inspect. Works with gloves, works offline.
Scan a label with your iPhone camera and it opens the app straight to that hive.
Settings now sit comfortably on iPad.
Faster app start and smoother syncing, especially on bigger apiaries.
