Code never comes. Multiple attempts on many days, no code. **Developer response:** Hi! We have updated the app with new login alternatives and now everything should work perfectly. The activation requires SMS code to be sent to continue beyond home screen. This process does not work. V2.0.5 ### 1/5 — Not working. *2020-07-30, version 2.0.5* Not working. Took five tries to install. Fifth time a charm. It let me input the name for my first hive, second question wants the breed of bees. I hit that button a zillion times, won't let me input anything. ### 1/5 — Splash screen only *2020-07-10, version 2.0.4* Interesting idea, but I can’t get beyond the splash screen to try it out. Just hangs there forever. The Beescanning team ### 1/5 — Not working *2019-05-28, version 1.0.10* I uploaded a picture with a frame and its saying no queen , but she is clearly marked on the frame , even a blind guy could see it . Waste of time . ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — No support. No clear instructions. *2025-07-07* I purchased this app and have been trying to figure out how to use it. The video is not in English and the subtitles are not only small but impossible to track. Long story short: if someone out there writes a new program that is intuitive and easy to use, that would be great. Shame on the people who own this app for taking the money and not offering a stitch of customer support ### 1/5 — Painful *2025-07-06, version 4.0.14* Very poor photos just stuck processing, clearly not a useable app, shouldn’t be on the App Store really it feels that bad. ### 1/5 — Terrible app! *2025-06-02* Great concept. This app could be awesome. Instead it is a bust. Does not even work with its own sample data. Swing and a miss, folks. Gave it one start as zero was not an option. ### 1/5 — Not free at all *2023-05-11* Any button you push in the app requires payment as far as I can tell they allow zero sample. So unless you’re willing to pay $40 a year you may as well not even download the app **Developer response:** There is a free 14 days trial. Then you can choose monthly or yearly subscription. Welcome back. Björn ### 1/5 — Does not work *2022-07-25, version 4.0.2* Great idea. It simply does not work. July 25 22 Using my analogue system I counted dozens of brood on a frame. and 3 varroa per hundred using an alcohol wash. The app counted zero brood (8 photos of the same frame) and zero mites. Great idea. I could be doing it wrong, I will change the review if it improves. ### 1/5 — Major issues with subscription *2022-07-23* Only on occasion will it work as described with a subscription. Usually it says I either don’t have a subscription, or that my subscription has ended but if I then choose to renew my subscription it’s says I can’t because I have a paid subscription. I honestly have no idea how well the app works for hive monitoring because I usually can’t even get it to the page to do that. Attempts to contact developers have fallen on deaf ears. Until these issues are resolved…DO NOT PURCHASE!!! **Developer response:** Issues are resolved. Welcome back. Bjorn ### 1/5 — Doesn’t Recognize Subscription *2021-10-03* It was great when it worked. I had four of my hives at two locations in it with photos. When I opened it today it didn’t recognize that I have a paid subscription (most recent payment was 4 days ago) and acted like I was a new user. All my data was gone. No way to contact customer service in the app. Wish I could get my most recent payment back, but canceling and removing the app with have to do. **Developer response:** Hi! Please contact us at support@beescanning.com straight away and we will sort this out ASAP. We just need your Client-ID (click on cogwheel menu and it shows in the bottom of the screen) and phone number in the mail so we can track what has gone wrong and fix this for you. BEST/Team BeeScanning ### 1/5 — Frustrating *2021-09-18* I have entered my phone number multiple times for a code to be sent via text. Not receiving the text, can’t access app without it. After read the reviews, I’m not the only one having this issue. **Developer response:** Sorry to hear that you have problems with the text send outs. As you mention, you are not alone. I wanted that this brilliant idea actually worked. Two hives were tested. I picked 3 brood frames and took 3 pictures across each frame, so 18 pictures in less than 5 minutes. Maybe the analysis took 3 minutes, and we were done. BeeScanning is cutting edge. No more mites washes. Ever. ### 5/5 — You can log in …. *2021-09-13, version 3.0.4* To avoid bad reviews as people can’t login….on the first screen you need to select your country code first by clicking the flag area top left. The interface seems a bit clunky here but it does work, then it will add the correct country prefix to the number. For Uk example you then type your number without a leading zero so you get +44 7895 223456 type format. It worked fine for me and I got activation code immediately. Not used it for scanning yet, will give it a go. ### 5/5 — Most excellent app *2020-08-22* Thrilled to find this app - I heard about it on YouTube and immediately downloaded it. Tested it today for the first time and it was pretty intuitive. The mite load tracked exactly with an alcohol was I did on another hive; both hives were started from the same supplier at the same time. While I don’t think would be the only test, it certainly provides a level of comfort regarding the mite load. Big shout out to the developers! ### 5/5 — Awesome App *2020-07-19* I love this app! I wasn’t sure if I could trust the counts at first, so I made sure to compare against alcohol washes I did. What do you know, it is perfectly accurate!!!! I no longer have to kill bees to get a mite count! My one suggestion is to add more bee races to the list provided. Simply adding one called Apis Mellifera would be suitable. Aside from that, it’s a great app. ### 5/5 — Update: great idea not user friendly *2020-07-02* I love the idea behind this app which is why it is a 3. The app is not user friendly, at least in my opinion. It took a while to get hives entered and now I do not see an easy way to rescan the hive. I sent a message and was given simple instructions a week later but what they said I should do was not available on my app. If this worked well it would be a solid 5 star. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I don’t see a way to fix the issues. Thanks I emailed asking for jig plans and got an immediate reply from Björn. I asked him about my issue above and after extensive emails I found out my issue was my ignorance. Björn showed me how to rescan and now that I know where the rescan button is (on the bottom of the screen) I can do more scans. Thank you for your time and patience. I wish I could go back and remove my first rating. ### 5/5 — Truly amazing! *2019-02-23* We’ve all done it, taken a picture of a failing hive or a puzzling scenario and posted it on Facebook hoping someone could magically give us an answer as to what we were seeing. Well, Mr. Björn Lagerman has created an app that does just that! It’s ground breaking and truly amazing! Just upload your photos, submit them and get an instant diagnosis of what your looking at! Thank you Mr. Lagerman and best wishes in your beekeeping endeavors! ### 4/5 — Excellent *2023-10-03* I didn’t trust this app for a long time and verified it against alcohol washes. It always checks out. Because I could mite check easily with every inspection I checked more was more on top of it. I think the brood disease part is not nearly as developed as the mite side of the app but mites are what kills bees. ### 3/5 — Can’t get it open *2020-08-08* This app won’t send my phone a text no matter what I do for it. I need to perform some tests on them. I guess I’m just gonna have do the powder sugar test.
