Most word games are a bit ho-hum as far as I am concerned, but this one is better than most, worth the small purchase price. One annoyance is that even turning the in app volume to lowest setting, it still makes sounds, unless I turn the volume on my iPad off. I’ve turned the volume to the lowest setting, but you can still hear the click-click-click of the tiles, unless I mute my phone. This makes it impossible to sneak play at work. Otherwise, an excellent game. I’ve been looking for a replacement for AlphaBetty since they aren’t adding new levels anymore, and this works. Challenging, strategic, and I get to make words of my own choosing with as many letters as I can. Well worth the purchase price. It would be 5 stars if it allowed me to mute. ### 3/5 — Befuddled Sound *2018-12-28, version 2.5* I turn the sound off on all my games. For some reason Befuddled only lets you turn it down, but not off. It is quite annoying. There is no website for support. ### 4/5 — Not happy *2018-04-06, version 2.5* After updating iOS to 11.3 I now find that I am no longer able to mute the volume as I once could 🤔😔😩😤😬 don’t like that !!! ### 4/5 — Fantastic game *2017-01-19, version 2.4* This game has taken over my life and I lose hours playing. My only gripe, which I'm surprised no one has mentioned is how fast your coins go down. I've asked the developer to add the choice of being able to buy coins which I know will greatly improve the game as 6 coins to change one tile when often you need to change 3/4 to make the really decent words soon eats them up. I can't wait until I can do this so I don't have to constantly watch how many coins I've got left. I know I will lose many, many more hours playing this terrific game. ### 4/5 — Fun, but I miss Bookworm! 😒 *2014-11-10, version 2.4* Switched over to this game when I changed phones. I was looking for a replacement to the Bookworm app, which was my favorite game for my phone. I am enjoying this game. Great game like bookworm without story & characters. Can use coins (not real money) to buy scramble, bombs, extra letters, etc. & don't have to spend real money! You earn coins for end of each level. ***1 star comment: Can't stand the noise!!! Volume doesn't adjust through settings. New changes made me delete game. The blocks dropping sound is like nails on a chalkboard. I'll find a different game to play, one you can mute! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Original Pop Cap Bookworm game *2018-11-30, version 2.5* I can’t believe the original bookworm game is not available on my new, upgraded iPhone!! I refused to buy an other brand of phone except an iPhone because I loved to play bookworm so much. Several of my grandchildren loved to sit down and play it with me or by themselves. These new versions of bookworm are a poor comparison to the old version!! Please make the original version available again!!! ### 1/5 — Original popcap bookworm word game *2018-08-27, version 2.5* I put off updating my iPad because I was afraid my Bookworm game would not work anymore. But a well meaning relative updated my iPad to version 11.4.1. Sure enough, Bookworm no longer works in the new version. I downloaded this game a few years ago, and it is my favorite word game. Now I cannot play it at all! Please update this game. Many others have been requesting this too. Can I please get my older version back? ### 1/5 — Change for the worse *2012-11-13, version 2.2* The new update has taken a simple, elegant and relaxing game and turned it into a complicated, nerve-wracking mess. Letters literally change while I'm trying to click on them. The whole underlying game has been changed and previous strategies have gone out the window. The game is now truly "Befuddling" and will be coming off my phone. ### 1/5 — New changes. *2012-10-24, version 2.1* I am so disappointed with the new changes. it's completely changed how you play the game. the worst part is the added tiles that you can't use to start a word. also the tiles with two or three letters on them is a joke. the game was so much better before the changes, it's not even fun anymore just annoying. I played this game every day now I'll have to find something else the change is just to frustrating. ### 1/5 — Can I get my money back? *2011-05-27, version 2.0.1* The first day I played the game I'd lose the sound when someone called. I'd have to turn the phone off and on again to get it back. The second day I tried to play the app crashed every time I'd open it so now I can't play at all. I have a friend who loses sound also. Last week I sent an email asking if the music could be lowered or off while I’m using Bluetooth to listen to my music in my home or car while playing. Not only did they get back to me right away but the app can be played while listening to your music over Bluetooth! Thanks Befuddled! You made my day! UPDATED 6/16/26: While this game is still my GoTo, I have been noticing an annoying problem with the “3+” changing to a “1+” even though I used this tile every time, so then you don’t get the extra coins. The only way to get it working properly again is to back out and restart the game. Not a big deal if you already have a lot of coins, but if you’re nearing the last tiles and you only have 10 coins it will make Surrendering likely in a few moves. You made my day! ### 5/5 — Love it! *2020-07-03, version 2.5* This is a treasure of a puzzle. I had it a few days before I nagged my house mate to try it. We are both hooked, as we enjoy relaxing with a word puzzle. Had some queries, emailed the developer amd received lovely helpful detailed reply. Others could learn from these guys. Thank you for this puzzle. It’s the nearest I will get to the old “spell collapse” favourite (still have that on old phone, they no longer update) Will soon upgrade this to the hd version. 👍🏻 Anyone keen on word puzzles, this will fill your needs. The developers are keen to keep the Megabytes low too so that’s an added plus.
