As a K teacher, I don’t have time to enter data at that moment and need to do it in my preps or later that day. This app doesn’t allow that. Confusing on how to save data. I’ve lost lots of data cause I didn’t save correctly. Makes you buy app and pay subscription to use. Huge cost ### 4/5 — Still the best *2017-09-01, version 2.4* I initially purchased the app within a week of it being released. It remains one of the best apps I own. ### 3/5 — Requires in App Purchases *2017-03-01* I am a special education teacher and have been looking for this sort of app for a while now. In the past, doing student observations required a clipboard, paper, timer, and pencil. I had to juggle those things while watching the behavior of the target student and other students in the class. This app allows you to select the sort of observation, time period, your specific behaviors and keeps track of the time with or without an audible signal at the interval selected. Each time the period ends and you record data, the timer stops and then restarts making sure no behaviors are missed while you are looking down. The reports contain data and snazzy graphics like pie charts. The problem is that they are printed in too large a font and take up to 8 printed pages. With three observations in different settings each student could have more than 20 pages added to their special education file, way too many. The biggest problem with this app is that after a maximum of 12 observations you must purchase a time limited subscription. So the app costs $10 and you get soaked for as long as you use the app. I'm probably not going to spend the money from my limited budget. Looks like it's back to clunky clipboard and juggling act. **Developer response:** Hi GrannyMH50 - Thank you for your thoughts. As a user myself, when I have printed reports I have selected to print multiple screens per page to cut down on the number of pages printed. Also, if you no longer need observations you've conducted previously, you can delete and continue using the app - staying under 12 observations. We appreciate feedback from all users. Thank you for taking the time to review BehaviorSnap. ### 1/5 — Please Fix!! *2014-11-21* There are some great things going for this app, but it's completely useless to me until some changes are made. Namely, You cannot back date anything!!! As a behavioral interventionist, I rely on what is reported to me and use that information to identify patterns, generate reports. The fact that you can only do recordings in real time, even on the ABC data collection, is a HUGE FLAW. I'm very disappointed that I spent this much money on an app I can't even use. Do not buy unless you'll be able to access the app right then and there at the exact time without going back and adding info later. **Developer response:** Hi RMattingly - We recognize that this review is several years old, but iTunes has just begun allowing developers to respond. We understand your frustration, wanting to backdate your data. However, we made a conscious decision to not allow this so as to make the app legally defensible. I have been looking for a comprehensive behavior tracking application for the iPad and I finally found one. There is one annoyance I have with the Time Sampling method of observation. The pop up menus for documenting behaviors move around and are never in the same place. It makes it difficult to tap on the behavior and distracts from the observation. I would suggest making the menses pop up in the same location each time you go to log a behavior. ### 4/5 — Great tool, needs tweaking. *2014-02-28* DEVELOPERS, PLEASE NOTE!! This is a great tool for classroom observations. As a school psychologist, I use it for every observation. I love the graphs produced by the data and use them in my reports. My only complaint is that there aren't options to add behaviors not listed. Yes, there's an option called "other behaviors," but when you are looking at a few particular behaviors, it would be brilliant to be able to operationally define those. Please consider it, developers!! This app would then be worth the steep price tag. ### 3/5 — Behavior Snap *2014-01-21, version 1.3.2* When there is no contact information on your web page, that raises concerns about legitimacy of company. Please add. App is very user friendly. Interval recording is only usable with on or off task behavior. Observations can be recorded in real time only , that is, previous data cannot be added with a different date. Will a little tweaking this would be a very valuable tool! ### 4/5 — Wish I could EDIT! Still Awesome *2013-10-18* This is a great tool and it makes me excited to do observations! Which is awesome! I do wish I could edit observation data after I have recorded it because sometimes I am not as accurate in the moment (especially during interval observations) as I would like to be - especially when there are so many options like off task, but still engaged (which are great options). Anyway - that is the one thing I wish I could do... Also, it would be nice to be able to do peer comparison frequency observations as well. Just some ideas!! ### 3/5 — Need to be able to open file already set up *2013-08-20* I tried to set up a customized observation ahead of time, and you can't do that and close the app...it appears that you must enter your observation file and use it right then. I'm the only psych in the district, and I go from testing, to observation, to meetings in a single day. Everything I do must be extensively pre-planned and saved ahead of time....and scheduled in a calendar app with reminders. I'd die without the assistance of technology. Now that I will be doing IQ tests on iPad as well, I'm prepared for the planning time for set up. I'd ideally like to be able to fully set up the observation by school, student, and target behaviors and just open that file when I get to the classroom and run with it. My time is too limited to set it up while I'm supposed to be observing... Then I get in trouble for not meeting the time requirement we have in-county. If I had wiggle room, it wouldn't be a big deal, but I'm constantly on-the-go and am lucky to get a lunch. There will be no crisis today; my schedule is full. ### 1/5 — Report crashes *2012-12-09, version 1.2* Also just realized, I cannot print or open in, as well as email the report. Nothing in the report viewer screen works after the report is generated. Ugh! So frustrating as I have an FBA due and basically took all of this data and notes for nothing. ### 4/5 — ABC Data Collection *2012-10-30, version 1.1* This a great app. I am a little disappointed that there is no on line support or way to make suggestions for future versions. The app works great for the ABC data collection I am doing, however, I have noted several aspects that would benefit the next version. Note these as they a not all apparent until you buy and use the program. To the developers, please consider the following for future versions: 1) the ability to edit the default A, B, C choices. There are several that I use as standards and I have to re enter them for each person I Sam observing, whereas if I could set my own default values for the A, B, Cs it would save me a lot of time. 2) the ability to edit the A, B, C choices (defaults and the client specific ones). By edit I specifically mean delete, re-name and re-order. Once you type it in, you can not Change it, so if you make a type, you either have to live with it or put another one in and ignore that one when making a selection. 3) ability to edit (delete, re-name, reorder) the activity list. As this is not child specific, my list has grown large and I have no way to remove unwanted items. Tis makes it hard to quickly scan for what I want during an observation. 4) the ability to select more than one behaviour at a time. I find is quite restricting as many times, a single antecedent may trigger a verbal and physical outburst that occurs together and simultaneously. Only being able to select 1 single behaviour for each contingency statement is over restricting. Please allow selection of multiple behaviours. ### 4/5 — Reports crash *2012-10-04* Another reviewer mentioned this but I wanted to reiterate. Every time I try to email a report the app locks up and it takes a significant amount of time for me to be able to reaccess other pages. Please let me know if there is a way to fix this. Also, sometimes a report is generated, but sometimes it is not. Sometimes only a portion of the report is generated. Would re-installing the app help? Would I have to repay for the app if I did this? If these things are fixed I think it would be a great app ### 1/5 — Crashes!! *2012-09-24, version 1.1* Crashes every time I try to get a report. It pops up briefly in the white page then crashes. Please fix!! Also wont let me combine reports!! ### 4/5 — Great app but peer data missing *2012-03-08, version 1.0.4* This app has made my job so much more manageable. I love everything about it and it's so easy to use! However, when creating reports, I cannot figure out how to graph or calculate the "typical peer" data and have had to do it by hand. The developer website does not have any support pages or contact information for help. ### 4/5 — Not bad *2012-03-01, version 1.0.4* Please allow the observer to add their own behavior description after selecting on task or off task. Often time, it takes too long to find the proper description and then the ones offered at not adequate. Perhaps an "other" option could work. Other than that this a pretty nice app. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Paid for nothing *2023-11-26, version 3.1.4* I was charged 9.99 when I downloaded the app, but once I opened the app, I was presented with different “subscriptions” to actually do anything. 4.99 for 1 month, 9.99 for 3 months, 19.99 for a year. I attempted to “restore purchase” thinking it just hadnt recognized that I paid 9.99 when I downloaded the app from the App Store. Nope. So let me get this straight - I have to pay 9.99 just for the pleasure of having the app on my phone PLUS additional money to be able to use the app? No thank you. I submitted a request to Apple to refund me because this is ridiculous. ### 1/5 — Bad business *2023-10-01* Downloaded cancelled and billed after a week - crappy business ### 1/5 — Rip Off *2023-09-18* So you charge 9.99 for the app and then only allow very limited access and request a subscription to get more access. Why did I pay the 9.99??? You should stop the bait and switch and give full disclosure about the access. ### 1/5 — Do NOT Get! *2022-05-26* Such a waste of $10. I was super excited to use but you can’t even add anything (yes I know you can do more with subscription) but even with the $10, you can’t even input any ABC data since it prompts you every single time to add student. Worst $10 spent. The BOSS app is better than this ### 1/5 — Privacy policy issue *2020-06-30* I desperately want to use this product. The design is user friendly and information can be presented in easily understood visual format that is ideal when communicating with teachers and parents in the school environment. However, the privacy policy does not indicate what information is collected by the publisher, how it is stored, or used. Given the laws around student data, I can not use this product without this information. The use of this tool in the public education setting may be in violation of FERPA. ### 1/5 — Deceptive Marketing *2019-09-11* The fact you have to pay $10 to “test drive” the app with such limited capability without a subscription is criminal. ### 1/5 — Useless *2017-02-26* It's bad enough that the app is clunky and requires WAY too much tapping after one interval, but now they made this poorly executed app subscription based?! Imagine a 30 minute observation where you have to WAIT for the 15 or 30 seconds to elapse before you can choose on or off task, only to find that you have to navigate a labyrinth of multiple choice options and buttons before moving on to the next interval! My 30 minute observation has now turned into 90 minutes! I wonder how many subscribers they have or if the developers have actually ever done a classroom observation! Very frustrating, I wish my district could get their money back for buying the original app for 10+ people! **Developer response:** Hi Mugsybear - We're sorry you find the app clunky. We are two school psychologists ourselves who use the app to conduct behavior observations. We set the Interval observation up to be used as a Time-Sampling observation. Therefore, the app waits until the interval is complete to allow behavior coding. While the observation does take longer than the length you've set, we've found that we've become fairly agile at finding the correct behavior quickly. We want to make sure that you know that users who purchased the app before the subscription pricing are not required to subscribe, ever. Within the app, you find the My Subscriptions button and hit "Verify Previous Purchase". You can then continue to use the app as you always have without paying any more money. You can always contact iTunes for a refund if you are still dissatisfied. We appreciate feedback from all users, even unhappy ones. I don't like that I paid for an app only to later be forced to pay again to be able to take full advantage of it. There is a reduced price for subscribers, but still is not what I bargained for when I first purchased the app. ### 1/5 — Was a great app back before subscriptions were required. *2015-03-25, version 2.1* So I go to use Behavior Lens at work today, having not upgraded to a subscription and find that I am over my max of 12 observations. So I begrudgingly delete a number of "less critical" observations and do a couple observations. I go to run a report and find that is grayed out. I just wanted the plain old report. The new version should have been launched as a different program. I paid for the app in its original version and it wasn't cheap. But I saw on the website that current users don't have to subscribe to continue using the app. I am going to subscribe though because I like the new teacher interaction tracker on Interval observations. I'm hoping one of the future enhancements will be the ability to add customized behaviors on Interval. Sometimes I see a behavior that doesn't necessarily fit into one of the provided categories.
