By standard they look for wifi network. Examples of issues when using in airplane mode: 1-Wifi calling by phone carrier doesn’t work. It requires Wifi. 2- Whatsapp doesn’t work with screen blocked. Only receives messages after opening the app and acknowledging the error message that there is no internet connection. The bottom line is: the ios is made for 4g and Wifi and everything is based on it.
