## What is Bell Weather?

Has it been hotter than normal lately? Colder? Wetter? Drier? Bell Weather answers by comparing the last few weeks with every year on record at a weather station near you.

It uses long-term climate data from NOAA, often going back more than a century, and ranks the current stretch of days against all of it anywhere in the US.

Rings show at a glance how far each measure has strayed from normal: temperature, highs and lows, rain, snow, and heating and cooling demand. Behind them are the details: every past year as a dot, the last 90 days plotted against the historical range, and a timeline you can scrub or play back through the decades.

Save the places you care about. Each is matched to the nearby station with the longest, most complete record, and you can choose a different one. A national map shows how 174 long-record stations across the country are doing right now, and a widget keeps one place on your Home Screen.

Bell Weather is free with two saved locations and the past year of the timeline. Bell Weather Unlimited, a one-time purchase, adds as many locations as you like and the whole record.

Everything comes from measurements taken over the last century or so. No forecasts, no models. No account, and it works offline once a place has loaded.

### 5/5 — This app is very helpful when comparing data of different regions

*2026-10-19*

The information is useful, easy to follow, and helps me understand conditions in different areas. A beneficial and informative app. Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Nice to have real data vs impressions

*2026-10-18*

I’ve been hearing “it’s getting hotter / drier over the past ten years” and “we never needed AC before and now it’s a necessity” etc. more and more often. It’s helpful to be able to check out the actual data and see exactly what the change has been over time rather than relying on anecdotal evidence.
