Italian citizenship takes years. Belong Italy keeps the count honest, from today to the day you can apply.

YOUR ROUTE, CLEARLY
The general ten year route, four years for EU citizens, three for people born in Italy, two on Italian descent since Law 74/2025, five for refugees and stateless people, and the marriage route after two years
Every requirement explained: legal and continuous residence, Italian at B1, sufficient declared income and a clean criminal record
Each rule sourced from the official authorities: Law 91/1992, Law 132/2018, Law 74/2025 and the Ministero dell'Interno, with applications filed through the ministry's ALI portal
Recognition by descent, jure sanguinis, is signposted rather than tracked: it runs through consulates, comuni and courts, not through a residence clock

Your language proof, spelled out: a B1 certificate from CILS, CELI, PLIDA, CERT.IT or Ce.Co.L. A certificate from any other school or app does not count

DUAL CITIZENSHIP
Italy has allowed it since 1992. You are not asked to renounce your original nationality. Whether your home country lets you keep its nationality depends on its own law — Belong Italy reflects the rules as they stand today
