The subscription button doesn’t respond at all, and the app doesn’t show my device name correctly—it only displays ‘iPhone’ instead of the name I set. It might work better on some phones, but on mine the main features don’t function.” ### 4/5 — Great app but needs one improvement for five stars *2025-11-11* I love this app. It works excellent in situations where you’re near someone but can’t use cell service or WiFi to communicate. The one downside is that the text displays backwards, with the most recent text appearing at the TOP rather than at the bottom like in all other messaging apps. Please please make an option where the text displays in chronological order with the most recent texts at the very bottom. This would make the app a lot easier to use. My only wish is that it’d put most recent messages on the bottom, like the text app. If I could set it up to format like the text app, with most recent message at the bottom, I’d give it a full 5 stars. However I cannot get the phone call option to work. When I select another user and click the phone call icon it rings once and hangs up before the person has a chance to answer it. Also even though I have all notifications turned on it only seems to badge the app for a new message instead of displaying as a persistent notification on the screen like iMessage would. I have persistent notifications turned on for Berkanan. Otherwise 5 star. ### 5/5 — Great App *2021-01-16, version 3.0.8* Wonderful at what it does, pretty good overall. Would be cool to see cross platform between apple and android to throw up a few communication nodes for kicks. As soon as Apple allows sharing third-party subscriptions with your family using purchase sharing, I will enable them. Currently, its' not possible. 2. Good suggestion! Until I work on this, you could take a look at Berkanan Messenger Lite, which works as an independent watchOS app (no companion iOS app needed). 3. I will think about this. ### 4/5 — Better than the rest, BUT *2020-02-06* I would LOVE to see a group messaging option. I am planning on going on a cruise and our family would like a way to talk to each other without paying the $13/ WiFi on the boat. We are going to try this app as it seems to work the best, but if there was a group option, it would be 5 stars. I’d even pay for it if it worked with a selectable group. Edit: I am hoping to be able to make my own group. A private one with multiple people. I’m sure other people on a cruise ship will have this app, so I don’t want everything to be public. **Developer response:** Hi, jamdeeper! Have you discovered the Public group messaging part of the app? On the iPhone, you can access it by tapping the bottom bar. It appears like it is the feature you are looking for if you want to message all nearby users. When you long-tap on a message, for example if it wasn’t delivered and you want to resend it, the app crashes. But i can call my phone from my ipad. ### 3/5 — Excellent Performance but has a Weird Issue *2020-09-23* Let me start off by saying I absolutely love this app, and a bunch of friends and I have use this on an airplane, to communicate midflight. Saved us some money on having a buy Wi-Fi to text each other. The only weird thing that I really hope they fix, it seems like the conversation bubbles are reversed. New messages go on top as a post to bottom in conversation threads, which is really confusing and goes against generally all other messenger apps. I would be great not to have the giant picture of the person your messaging with if they use a picture. It’s loud, everyone can hear my wife and I talking, and I get motion sick from constantly turning my head. Maybe these are first world problems, but Berkanan solves it with this awesome app. Now my wife and I can chat about trip details without a bunch of strangers listening, and we don’t have to pay for wifi to do so. It makes calls too. It works flawlessly. There’s a learning curve since the new messages appear at the top rather than the bottom, but otherwise I love this app! ### 5/5 — Absolutely amazing, one suggestion. *2022-01-16* This is the absolute perfect app for bluetooth messaging!! I would definitely recommend this to basically anyone! This will come in handy for times without a stable connection. One suggestion though, add groups. Someone in the group can invite another person, other people can't see it at all. Would be super useful.
