Best dark mode support in a browser.

Had given up looking for a decent dark mode on a browser, either on mobile or desktop.

Until I found Berry.  

But while dark mode is great there could be some improvements to navigation.  If you are not going to give me a back button then gesture support would be great.  Need some way to get to previous page.  

Also the only way to access bookmarks seems to be to create a new tab.  Seems a bit counter intuitive to me.

I like this browser for the dark option and it’s quick, the settings and configuration settings seem lacking. Is there a option for ad blocking, if you open YouTube ads still show. Also will there be updates to this as I of course didn’t see that the app hasn’t been updated in 2 years? $4.99 there should be a more current version with Adblock support or extension/plugins. Any way we could have the option to enable the back/forward buttons on the bottom as a option? Otherwise like the layout. Hopefully this will continue to receive updates and didn’t waste the money on this. Thanks.

I understand that choosing a default browser is an issue with Apple much more then with a developer(s), but it would be nice to have the option. I knew of the issue before purchasing, but I am hoping to see the option implemented soon.

I love all the UX details like the search address bar and swiping. However since Apple has added the Dark mode, the Berry is no longer in dark mode when my iPhone is in dark mode. You’d think Berry would make this one small change to detect when a phone has the system dark mode on.

The app is great its very simple to use its not like the other browsers that have all bunch of fancy things one thing only would love if you added the sound haptic on the keyboard and also suggestions as you write!!

I am happy to report that this is not one of those barely functional, cash grabs that sometimes finds its way onto the App Store. It really does feel like a regular browser so I do not think anyone would have difficulty adapting should they switch over.

The three finger night slider is probably the coolest functionality because even the lowest iPhone brightness can be a bit of a strain. You can go from literally complete blackness all the way up the original white light of blinding death.

There are only a few additions I would like to suggest. One would be to add a thin gray outline on the bookmark tiles and tab outlines to make them a bit more distinguishable. In regards to the bookmark tiles specifically, they kind of blend into the background too well. It is difficult to define how big the tile really is. The other addition would be a way to import Safari bookmarks, but that is because I am lazy AF.

Anyways thanks for the great app.

Thanks to the quick developer response, I was able to get desktop mode working on my iPad by long-pressing the refresh button. Now the only thing left to make this perfect is a gray mode. At the moment, I can set it to normal white background mode and black mode with different levels of brightness, which is great for bedtime reading. A gray mode would be a nice balance for when I’m reading on the train or in the coffee shop.

Thanks for writing in and sorry for the inconvenience. Berry does support Request Desktop Mode when you press and hold the refresh button and tap "Request Desktop Version". However, I should update it so that it does this automatically for more sites on bigger screens like the iPad. I'll put that update in this week. Thanks for the suggestion!

### 4/5 — Hmmmm...iPhone X??

Was really looking forward to making a browser switch. I gave it three stars because it seems to work well on my iPad Pro 10.5...But not so much on my iPhone X. No matter how hard I try, I cannot switch between light and dark mode. In addition, not all sites are truly showing in “dark” mode...It’s more like an ‘inverted colors’ mode. Once these things are corrected, this browser will be dope!

UPDATE:
That did it! Thanks for the response! Seems that the Zoom feature in Accessibility Settings was on and prevented me from using the Dark Mode in Berry. Turned Zoom off and it works like a charm.

Thanks for writing in and sorry about the issue.  I've seen this issue before, and it might be because you have an accessibility feature turned on on your iPhone X which overrides Berry's triple touch drag. Try going to Settings -> General -> Accessibility and turning off anything that might be triple touch there. If this doesn't work, I'm happy to continue assisting you further at hello@berrybrowser.com.

As for the inverted colors, we're working all the time on improving the rendering. Please email me with the site in question and I'll fix it for you right away.

This is an update to my previous review. The developer seems to be working to correct my previously stated issue.

I’m glad there is finally a web browsing app that is taking people’s privacy seriously.

I would still like to see an update that is more secure “right out of the box”.

My experience with this app is something of a mixed bag. Several sequences could be shortened with less touches etc. 
There is a subtle ergonomic genius to this app though that I have to take my hate off for: having open safari under the 3D Touch option. Subtle ergonomic genius, they realise people’s Now won’t be fully ready to move away from safari. And also realise EVERYONE has safari in their dock . . .  the solution? Just allow safari to open via 3D Touch from Berry directly. By doing this I can keep berry in my dock and switch instantly to safari if needed. 
Very very very clever subtle touch.

Liked the idea it was black and may save my eye strain a bit but ... it’s no where as efficient as a normal browser - navigation and search seems oddly challenging

I liked the concept of this app as I have sensitive eyes & like to browse the Internet. However, the majority of the time I’m unable to access Facebook & when I am able to there are glitches to it that are not norm. Such as extreme double posts with in one post. The keyboard is extremely slow & posting is very difficult. Browsing eBay I wasn’t able to go back after clicking on a item post. Nearly every thing I tried I had a technical issue with including the apps support itself. I was never able to access them threw their app. I’ve had this app for less then 24 hr & want a refund.

I find the keyboard really cumbersome, it feels slow and doesn’t have the suggestive text/auto correct feature. Therefore I tend not to use the browser or keyboard feature in other apps. Great potential, but not quite there yet in my opinion.

UPDATE : Downgraded to 1 star due to no support since I bought it over a month ago. For the price I don’t recommend the app at all for now. 

ORIGINAL REVIEW : It is a great idea to make a completely featured dark browser but the final result is disapointing. Browsing the internet is slow. Pages not loading instantly. Safari, chrome etc are way faster. 

Also this browser doesn’t support smart invert Colors. For a « dark » browser it surprised me because I like the way the browser shows web pages but with all the irriting things I said above, just using safari on smart invert will do the job. The browser also don’t support the ability to zoom all the web pages, a basic feature that all browser should have these days. 

Plus it lacks feature like the ability to download files like iCab. For $4 it’s a little pricey for now but I’ll likely follow the evolution of this app with future updates.

bought the app but didnt quite like it.. Its dark mode keyboard somehow doesnt work accurately compare to apples orginal, keep typing the wrong letters... and no auto correction.

The dark mode in the browser, i could do the same for free using the build in ios trick such as “reduce white point” and “zoom”

overall i really feel disappointed and felt it’s not worth spending so much money on this browser.. with regrets on the purchase, so thought i could share my experience before someone else made the purchase hastily

Thanks for writing in. Our keyboard doesn't have access to your private iOS keyboard data, but it does improve its accuracy over time as you use it more and it learns the way you type. For autocorrect, tap the gear to toggle this on or off.

The dark mode isn't a Zoom feature -- I'm a little confused by your comment here?

Sorry that you didn't feel like it was worth your purchase, perhaps Berry isn't a good fit for you. I want you to be happy, so if you'd like to get a refund and continue using Berry as it's improved over the coming weeks, go ahead and request a refund from Apple.

The concept of the application is great and if you’re looking for an app That can invert a website you’ve came to the right page but it’s such a hassle to actually use it from day to day. 

- The swipe from the edge of the display to go forward/back a page only works sometimes

-text editing in a text box on a website doesn’t work (this is extremely frustrating)

-the triple tap text to select all doesn’t work

There could be much more as well but in my opinion these necessities are the only things screaming at me while I use this app. 

It’s a shame, I’ve had very high hope for this app.

I purchased this browser a few weeks ago and it was working Fantastic but now i tried to open again Today and it Wouldnt open anymore it would just open and close the window right back up I cant even keep it open to go to settings it doesnt even show up in my recent tabs can someone plz help me and let me kniw wat to do to get this worki g again bcuz the app was very good as u can see i gave it 5 stars but now that it wont let Me open it and seen as i payed $4.99 for it its kind of pissing me off and i dont want to write a negative review thanks...

Love the app, it is everything I hoped for and works consistently across all the sites I use. Would recommend 100%!!!

However, when using my iPad in bed the search bar is very awkward to use. At the bottom it gets obscured by the bed sheets and its awkward to move my hand down from where I hold my iPad at the top of the screen.

 I like the placement on iPhone but on iPad I would LOVE to be able to repositioning it to the top. Otherwise its a great browser and I’m very glad I switched!

99% perfect I just have one nitpick that maybe no one else notices or cares about. 
The app icon is really dark. I get the whole dark mode and everything and I like that a lot. However, the app icon seems to ignore the brightness of my phone and appears to be dimmed down on the home screen. It looks really strange next to my other apps and it’s a nice looking icon, I just wish it was bright enough to see. Okay enough said I know it sounds weird and it’s not really a problem. More of a minor annoyance that I hope someone will agree with and decide to change :/

Guys, sent u an email about a month ago....still no reply. That just say that u don't have a good response team.

I asked about exporting bookmarks saved from safari, also when opening new tabs but staying in the first one, then u go again to the previously tab u opened and u have to wait it finally loads!!! That's just unacceptable. 

When browsing on Google and searching for anything and the drop suggestions pop u can't tap on any of them! So it can search for it...also unacceptable.

And last....if u don't write www and.com the browser will take u to a Google search....also unacceptable.
