## What is Best in Glass?

Best in Glass answers one question: what's actually good here?

At a restaurant? Scan the whiskey, mezcal or rum list (or any other spirits) on the drinks menu. Buying at the store? Photograph the shelves. Best in Glass reads the whole page or shelf at once and highlights the best-scored bottles. Does not work on wine or beer.

SCAN SHELVES
Photograph a shelf of whiskey, bourbon, scotch, tequila, mezcal, gin, rum, vodka, brandy or liqueur. The app detects each bottle, reads its label, and matches it against a catalog of well over 100,000 U.S.-approved spirits.

SCAN MENUS
Bar and restaurant lists work in the same scan. Take a photo of a whiskey, tequila or mezcal menu and the app reads each line, matches it to a bottle, and highlights the top-rated pours, even on crowded multi-column pages.

TAP FOR DETAILS
Open any bottle or menu line to see its score, the original label, and links to more ratings. If the match is wrong, pick the right one from the suggestions or search by name.

PINCH TO ZOOM
Zoom into a busy shelf or a dense menu and tap exactly the one you mean.

SEARCH AND HISTORY
Look up any bottle by name without taking a photo, and come back to everything you've scanned.

PRIVATE
Photos are read on your device. The catalog is built into the app.

Ratings come from community and critic sites, and a bottle with no published rating won't get a badge. Not affiliated with any brand or rating site. Please enjoy responsibly. Must be of legal drinking age.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5 — 2026-10-17

Rate your bottles, and your ratings count in scans.

• My ratings: give any bottle 0 to 5 stars, in half steps, and add a note. Tap Rate at the top of a bottle's page. This replaces Favorites; your earlier favorites and notes are kept.
• Your rating beats the score in a scan: when you scan a shelf or menu, a bottle you've rated shows your rating (out of 100, so 4.5 stars is 90) with a person mark. Bottles you've rated can now appear in scans even if they have no competition score.
• A full page for your ratings: tap the star on the home screen to see everything you've rated. Sort by your rating, recently rated, competition score, name or price, and filter by rating, type, price, whether it has a score, or whether it has a note.
• More bottles identified: scans now use the bottles around a bottle, and the menu column it sits in, to work out what it is, so more of a shelf or menu gets a result.
• Smaller fixes and polish throughout.

### 1.4 — 2026-10-12

• Price filter ($ $$ $$$) on search, shelf scans and menu scans. On menus it uses the printed pour price: $ under $15, $$ $15–25, $$$ over $25
• Filter search by spirit type (tequila, mezcal, amaro, aperitif and more), scored, age stated and favorites
• Section headings on menus, and a menu price on each drink
• A message explaining why a scan shows few scores
• A walkthrough for shelf scans and one for menu scans, each explaining prices
• Cleaner bottle view: heart in the title, slim expandable score, notes at the bottom, tap the label for a full-screen zoom
• Fixes and polish

### 1.3 — 2026-10-11

• Scan photos of drink menus taken at an angle or on a curved page: each drink is now found separately
• “Rescan this area” now works on menus too: zoom into a section and rescan it
• Better matching of drinks whose brand name was slightly misread

### 1.2 — 2026-10-09

• New home page: search, plus your recent scans and bottles in one place
• Favorites: tap the heart on any bottle to save it with your own notes
• Welcome tour and a quick walkthrough the first time you scan
• Scan a whole menu page or a whole shelf in one photo, then pinch to zoom and rescan a crowded section
• Scores now simply read “Score”, built from spirits competition results
• Easier keyboard dismissal, a Home button on every screen, clearer History and Acknowledgements
• Fixes and polish

### 1.1 — 2026-10-09

• Scan drink menus: photograph a spirits list and see the best-rated pours
• Pinch to zoom and pan on any photo
• Smaller, clearer score badges on crowded menus
• Better matching for apostrophes in names (like Greenall's) and age statements (like Glenfiddich 15)
• The bottle page now shows the name up top and puts other rating sites below the label
• New name: Best in Glass
