After setting up your profile, you can scan away and start racking up points to redeem for prizes. And if the item you scan isn’t in the system, you can submit it for review and they’ll get back to you in 24 hours. (I’ve already done it twice.) The local tips are a nice bonus. ### 1/5 — Used to work well, but now useless *2025-07-09, version 1.2.18* I am no longer able to use the camera to scan barcodes with this app. I am presented with an option to go to the iOS Settings app to provide access to the camera to the BetterBin app, but there’s no such option presented when I go there. Stalemate! UPDATE 9 July 2025: After an app update today, I was hopeful that the major bug mentioned above had been fixed, but nope still there 11 month later. COME ON! Get this fixed! ### 1/5 — Great Idea *2024-09-08, version 1.2.14* This app has a great idea, but when I open the app there’s no barcode to scan an item. The only options are learning about recycling “communities” in your area. When I say area, there are eight states to choose from. So absolutely useless. ### 3/5 — Used to work well, but not now *2024-08-19* I am no longer able to use the camera to scan barcodes with this app. I am presented with an option to go to the iOS Settings app to provide access to the camera to the BetterBin app, but there’s no such option presented when I go there. Stalemate! ### 2/5 — Great when it works *2024-03-29, version 1.2.14* Great resource for what can be placed in community compost and what cannot. Problem is it stopped working and will not load. I usually use it without signing in. One day, I wanted to sign in so I could try a different feature. I forgot my password and went thru the steps to follow a link sent in an email to reset PW then went back to the App but it was stuck on the “forgot PW” page and there was no button to go back or sign in with my newly reset PW. I let it rest for a day then went back into it and signed in. It took me to a blank plain white page with no buttons or options. Now it is totally useless. I just get a blank screen. ### 5/5 — Great resource! *2024-01-19, version 1.2.13* This is a great resource for knowing how to recycle. There are items that I used to recycle that I learned are not accepted, but more items that I used to trash that I learned are recyclable! Woohoo! And earning points is a fun incentive. ### 1/5 — Won’t load *2023-11-20, version 1.2.12* The app worked great for me about a year ago and was super helpful for checking local composting guidelines. But two or three updates ago, the app stopped loading when opened. I’m running the latest iOS and just updated the app, but no luck—just an unending loading screen. It’s become totally useless. But I live in hope that someday an update will fix this (developers??). ### 4/5 — Love the app but *2022-10-04, version 1.2.3* I love the app but I wish you had the features of the app that is on the app store in the FAQ.
