## What is BetterRunning App?

BetterRunning is an AI running coach for iPhone and Apple Watch. It doesn't hand you a generic 12-week plan — it builds one around your body, and adjusts it every morning based on how you actually slept, how your heart is recovering, how much you've trained, and how the weather looks for today's session.

HOW IT WORKS
When you set a goal — a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or just getting fitter — BetterRunning reads your recent runs, last night's sleep, your heart-rate variability and resting heart rate, and your weekly volume from Apple Health. Your AI coach turns that into a multi-week plan, sized for you.

Every morning, before you lace up, BetterRunning reads back from Apple Health:
- HRV (heart rate variability) — your nervous system's readiness signal
- Sleep — duration and stages from your watch
- Resting heart rate and recent training load
- Today's weather, the moment you open the app

Those inputs become a readiness score, a short explanation in plain language, and — if needed — an adjusted version of today's session. If your HRV is suppressed and you slept poorly, tomorrow's tempo run becomes today's easy 25 minutes. If you're firing on all cylinders, the coach tells you to go.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
Most running apps adapt after your run. BetterRunning adapts BEFORE it.

EVERY WORKOUT COUNTS
Your body doesn't know which workouts were runs. A long ride, a swim or a strength session counts towards your training load and your readiness, and Progress shows each week split between running and other training — so a jump after a big ride explains itself.

AFTER EACH RUN
The app celebrates your good ones from your real performance — not vague benchmarks. The AI gives specific feedback referencing your actual numbers.

A COACH THAT LISTENS
- Tell your coach "I'm travelling next week" or "make it easier this block" and get back a clean, confirmed change to your remaining sessions. It remembers why.
- Edit a session your coach softened and it acknowledges your choice.
- Cycle-aware coaching, opt-in. The phase is worked out on your phone; your dates and flow data never leave it.
- Race time projections for every distance, refreshed daily as your fitness changes.

ON THE WATCH
Start a tracked run from your wrist. Live pace, heart rate, distance. Interval mode shows the rep you're in and the recovery left. Distinct haptics for every kilometre. Workouts, GPS routes and energy save into Apple Health as first-party data.

HELP IS IN THE APP
Profile → Help & support: a searchable FAQ, how-to guides and a contact form. No browser needed.

IN YOUR LANGUAGE
English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish — on the phone and on the watch.

PRIVACY AND TRUST
No account, no third-party analytics, no trackers, no ads. The only time we receive your email address is if you write to us from Help & support. Your plan and history sync through your own iCloud Private Database — only you can read it. Coaching requests go to a server we operate, which passes them to an AI provider to write your advice. Raw heart-rate, HRV and sleep data and GPS routes never leave your devices: the coach gets summaries and aggregates, never your location.

Free one-month trial. After that, monthly or annual. Cancel any time.
Requires iPhone running iOS 17.6+. Apple Watch (Series 5 or later) running watchOS 10.6+ recommended for live workout tracking.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7.3 — 2026-11-01

iPhone Duo viewpoint fixes.

### 1.7.2 — 2026-10-31

Your plan now shows what you ran, not just what you planned. Plan details open on the shape of the whole plan, one bar per week coloured by phase, with a marker for where you are. Past weeks draw the plan as a dotted outline and every kilometre you actually ran as the solid bar inside it. If you ran almost nothing for two weeks or more, those weeks get grey stripes, so an injury shows up as a break in the picture, not as a plan you failed.

A new live run screen on your Apple Watch. Every kind of run has a screen of its own: easy and long runs, a tempo or a race against its target pace, a long run with blocks, and intervals through each warm-up, push, rest and cool-down. Heart rate is always top right, and the progress ring runs round the edge of the display from twelve o'clock in one unbroken line.

Your watch says what your phone says. After a run in another app the watch face now says Completed instead of Rest day. It shows no score instead of a made-up 50 while Today says Calibrating, and the start page only promises intervals when the run will play them.

Goals keeps your plan within reach. Scroll down and the plans card turns into a one-line row you can tap from anywhere on the page.

Profile is now Settings. The name matches what is in it.

Progress charts line up, and lines and bars no longer run over the edge of their chart.

Readiness reads your real morning. An ordinary morning now reads Ready, not Reduced. Free runners' readiness bands personalise after two weeks, and Progress shows a point for every day, not one. On a low-readiness morning Today greets you gently, and six greetings that told you to push through pain or guard a streak are gone.

Your streak counts all of it. It no longer stops at 26 weeks, and a week with a ride, swim or strength session of 20 minutes or more counts as trained.

Two goals, one fairer week. A shared run counts for one session from each goal, and the days around a race stay easy, even across Sunday to Monday. New goals need at least six weeks, and the form says why.

A coach that reads your training sensibly. It starts from your normal weekly volume, not one odd week, no longer rewards easy runs run too fast with a harder session, and rewrites Today's note when an evening run pushes your load up. Moving a run onto today no longer leaves "rest" over it.

Smaller fixes: with no Apple Watch HRV, readiness uses your resting heart rate, and heart-rate zone alerts on the watch work on a plan you built by hand.

Also: the day chips in the session editor are visible in dark mode, a run keeps its change history when you move it to another day, and the "Today's readiness" band is gone from Progress, so the tab is only trends.

### 1.7.1 — 2026-10-23

Every workout now counts towards your training load. Until now only runs did, so a long ride, a swim or a strength session never reached your load ratio or your readiness. Anything in Apple Health now counts, and a new "Training load by source" card on Progress shows each week split between running and other training, so a jump after a big ride explains itself. If you cross-train a lot, expect your load ratio and readiness to shift.

Help is now inside the app. Profile → Help & support has a searchable FAQ, four how-to guides and a contact form — no browser. Sending a message shares the email you enter with us so we can reply; a switch lets you add your app and iOS version, off by default.

Your coach now knows why you changed the plan. What you type in Adjust plan used to be filed and never read again. Your daily note and weekly review now take it into account, as background — it never overrides a rest day or a load limit.

A free run you delete stays deleted. It used to come back from Apple Health on the next refresh, or from another device. Now it doesn't.

Your resting heart rate now reaches every number built from it. 1.6.2 fixed your session targets; the plan your coach builds, the zones row created at first launch and the recovery signal on a Garmin-style watch still read a hardcoded 65 bpm whenever a real reading was missing. They now use your most recent real one, or say nothing.

Decline an adjustment back to the original plan, and your coach remembers. Setting a softened day back to what the plan held used to count as no change, so Today kept showing the easier run you had turned down. It now counts as an override, with the note it deserves.

The morning note always has weather, your cycle phase and your weight trend, however it reaches you, and a background refresh coaches the goal whose run is today.

Your zone paces start learning from the runs you've done. A session that stayed in its target zone now blends its real pace into that zone's baseline. Nothing changes today; your numbers just start sharpening.

Reopening the watch app mid-run no longer fakes your splits, and a run longer than 90 minutes gets its review again — the window is measured from when the run ended.

BetterRunning now speaks German, French and Spanish (Profile → Language), and a Dutch runner's watch is Dutch everywhere.

Also: Profile's phone-side Auto-pause and HR zone enforce switches are gone — they never did anything; the watch's own switches are unchanged. The watch complication shows "—" before first sync instead of a 0. The load ratio stays hidden until there are four weeks of history.
