## What is Between Us?

Some conversations are easy to want and hard to start.

Between Us is a checklist you each fill out alone, on your own iPhone. One card at a time, at your own pace. You answer honestly because nobody is watching you answer — not your partner, and not us.

When you're both done, and only when you both choose to, your phones show you what you have in common.

HOW IT WORKS

1. You each open the app on your own iPhone and work through the same list — 100+ cards about closeness, comfort, and boundaries.
2. You answer on a five-point scale: Love it, Like it, Neutral, Curious, Hard no. Add a private note to any card if you want to say more.
3. Nothing is revealed until you have both finished and you have both chosen to compare. Neither of you can peek early.
4. Your phones connect directly and show you where you match, where you differ, and what might be worth talking about.

NO SCORE. NO VERDICT.

There's no compatibility percentage and no ranking. The result is a starting point for a conversation, not a judgment about your relationship.

YOUR ANSWERS NEVER LEAVE YOUR PHONE

There is no account to create. There is no cloud. Your answers stay on your own iPhone and are exchanged directly between the two phones when you both choose to compare. Nothing is uploaded, and we never receive any of it — because there is nowhere for it to go. Apple's App Privacy label for Between Us reads "Data Not Collected."

You can lock the app with Face ID or your passcode.

PRICING

The app and the full checklist are free. Comparing your real answers is a single one-time purchase, and only one of you needs to buy it. There is no subscription.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.2 — 2026-09-17

The app icon now follows your phone. On iOS 18 or later, switch the Home Screen to Dark or Tinted and the icon changes with it.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-09-15

The cards now open in a gentler order. The first few questions are the easy ones, so a first pass starts with a warm-up instead of the hardest card in the deck.

Your answers now survive updates. Each question has a permanent identity, so when we reorder or reword the checklist, everything you've answered stays exactly where it belongs. Sheets saved by the previous version carry over automatically.

Review my answers. A new screen lists every card by category with your answer beside it. Tap any row to jump straight to that card. It's reachable from the start screen, the finish screen, and the category label on any card.

Edit write-ins. Anything you added yourself can now be changed in place, not just removed. And if you type one and tap "I'm finished" without adding it, it's added for you rather than lost.

Compare, on the day. If Compare finds the wrong phone in a busy room, tap "Not them? Look again" and it keeps searching. If nothing turns up after a while, the screen now explains the Local Network permission and opens Settings for you. And if your partner already bought the unlock, the price line and the paywall stay in step even when your own phone launched without a connection.

Small fixes. Importing a sheet file now checks everything before the file picker opens. The frequency question has its own calmer colors, since a pace isn't a verdict. Chip borders draw crisply on every screen. A saved sheet that can't be read for a moment is left untouched, never overwritten.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-09-02

From now on, a compare stays as it was. The next time the two of you compare, both sheets are kept exactly as they stood at that moment, so picking your own answers back up afterward doesn't change what you looked at together.

Reset this phone's sheet now clears everything the confirmation promises — your answers, your partner's sheet, and any compare saved on this phone.

Also fixed: on the newest iOS, the Cancel button could go missing from those confirmations. It's back, so there is always a way to change your mind. And exporting a sheet now works with any name, however long.

### 1.3 — 2026-08-27

Between Us now follows your iPhone's Text Size setting. Every screen scales with it, from the smallest size up to the largest accessibility sizes, and layouts rearrange to give bigger text the room it needs.

Also fixed: the note field could stop showing what you were typing. Your note was always saved — now it stays visible too.

And a small tidy-up: answer buttons in a row now keep an even height.

### 1.2 — 2026-08-24

Dark mode, and a Compare that finds its way back.

• Dark mode. The app now follows your phone's appearance, with a warm dark palette made for reading in a dim room rather than a plain inversion. Want to pin it either way? About → Appearance lets you choose Match phone, Light, or Dark.

• Compare recovers. If your phones lose each other partway through — a Wi-Fi hiccup, a phone locking in your hand — they now find each other again instead of sitting on "searching" until you close and reopen the screen. Failed connection attempts are retried too.

• Bring your partner in. "Invite your partner" — on the start screen, and again when you finish your sheet — writes the hard part of the message for you. Edit it, send it, done.

• Easier to read, easier to hear. Higher contrast on small text and controls, clearer VoiceOver labels, and every animation now respects Reduce Motion.

• Quieter by default. Your answers no longer show up in the app switcher, even if you haven't turned on the Face ID lock. Exported copies are written with full file protection and cleaned up afterwards.

• Small things. Pick up where you left off in one tap. If a purchase needs a family organizer's approval, the app now says so instead of the sheet just closing.
