### 5/5 — Payed $10 because of Seedship

*2022-12-18, version 1.1.1*

:)

### 5/5 — Fantastic game

*2022-12-01, version 1.1.1*

A fascinating and fun game. I played it non stop on a long flight. I know the price seems high, but it’s just like a long, replay-able choose your own adventure novel. Pick it up before a long flight: you won’t regret it!

### 5/5 — Hoping to unlock Infinite mode! Best stellar rogue-like!

*2022-11-16, version 1.1.1*

I’ve played a let’s Ply of Beyond the Chiron Gate! This game was complex, to me, at first, but, then, I discovered how to play it. I slowed down, read the text, took my time to understand the interface, tutorial, game play and rules. Then, I began to min-max everything, getting my scientist up to level 6 and discovering weird science from all over the universe! I love this game and I can’t wait to unlock further game modes!

Unfortunately, there is a small, but nasty bug, that makes you choose actions without your consent after picking the “continue” option. This has lead to me losing valuable crew members! I hope this bug can be fixed. I play on iOS iPhone 13. Mobile. I use voiceover, as I am blind and visually impaired. I’ve also trouble shooted the problem by turning off background apps, etc. the bug remains and keeps choosing options for me. I hope this can be fixed! It’s a sad mark on a beautiful game, that’s incredibly accessible to the blind and visually impaired! Thanks!

### 5/5 — an opportunity for reflection

*2022-09-03, version 1.1.1*

whenever i play either of this solo developer’s games i feel instantly transported. i transcend far beyond the medium of my phone and inhabit the intimate narrative of humanity’s journey to survive, learn, grow, thrive. can’t wait to see where this developer continues to apply his passions. well worth the price.

### 5/5 — Fun game, lots of possibilities

*2022-08-29, version 1.1.0*

Really enjoyed this game! I love the balance between “let’s explore as much as we can” and “ok, we need to move on ASAP”. The writing is immersive and I found myself getting attached to the crew members—in my first win, my MVP almost made it until the very final stretch! Plenty of replayability thanks to the randomness, achievement hunting and high scores. Recommended ❤️

### 5/5 — Text turn based space Oddessy

*2022-08-22, version 1.0.5*

This is a great balanced game for a turn based text adventure. Minimum graphics, but great content. Scifi Kirk Star Trek style adventure mixed with Stargate SG1 and a few others. This is a hidden gem.

### 5/5 — Imaginative, inspired, unique game

*2022-08-18, version 1.0.5*

Ie, everything your typical mobile game is not. If you are a fan of any sort of text based, story heavy game - get this immediately. $10 is well worth it for a gem in a sea of crap. Hope the author will continue to add content or produce more games in the future.

### 5/5 — Wonderful text based roguelike, successor to Seedship

*2022-07-04, version 1.0.5*

This is a great space exploration story game. My only wish is for even more unique endings so I can keep replaying this! Maybe I’ll check back some months later.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2022-07-02, version 1.0.5*

Much like Seedship, this is another fun game in the text based RPG sphere. Explore different solar systems as you jump through a wormhole. Upgrade your ship. Find new technology to research. Encounter other alien species. Very fun!

### 5/5 — Great

*2022-06-09, version 1.0.5*

Ten bucks seems steep at first, but then you realize it’s a passion project. I’m looking forward to seeing the game progress, update, and improve its amazing foundation over time. I think the creator of the game has a lot to work with here. Hoping for more success and popularity for him down the line.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — It’s about crew injury/death…

*2024-10-22, version 1.1.4*

…and not exploration/discovery. Ship damage and crew injury/death is what the game revolves around. All else is secondary, and that’s just a little sad. It’s too unrealistic to think people would put up with that. They wouldn’t. Everything else is fantastic for the genre, almost perfect. But I get tired of not developing crew for they will end up in hospital! You constantly turn back for crew injury/ies. Sure you can take an MD, but there you go, back to the counter-productive doctor’s injury. Not you have 2 MDs in the hospital.

The game focuses on the negative. That’s not fun and the fact that it’s popular, that’s scary.

### 2/5 — Repetitive and shallow, far too pricey for content

*2024-02-28, version 1.1.3*

Seedship was great, but lacking in narrative depth. This game somehow manages to feel even more narratively sparse, probably because the expanded adventure highlights the repetitive gameplay even more.

The systems play out like mad libs in space, you land on a [hot/dense/rocky/icy] [planet/asteroid] and then discover some [ruins/anomalies/microscopic life] that has been destroyed by a [cosmic ray/weather event/interstellar war], and on the way your [engineer/pilot/scientist] is imperiled by some [radiation/heat/cold/crushing atmosphere] and your other [engineer/pilot/scientist] has a [25/50/75%] chance of saving them from [injury/death]. All of these situations play out identically, with identical impacts from your pass/fail result. Get some biology points, or don't. Get some xeno points, or don't. Repeat for the entire game, like multiple times. In a single play-through your engineer is going to fix a space suit radiation leak like a dozen times, identical dialog, identical choices, maybe 5% bump to success because you gained a level. Every system description ends up reading the same. Once you've read the description for a gas giant, you've read every description for a gas giant.

Completely soulless dialog, probably assembled on an excel spreadsheet. $10 is just a joke of a price for this game. It's a shame, the concept is there, but the execution completely misses the mark. 2/5

### 2/5 — Love the story to this app, but very buggy

*2023-01-27, version 1.1.1*

I love the story to this app, but VoiceOver clicks on links when I'm trying to read the story. It actually ended the game once. This game really deserves 5 stars, but I'm not playing it again until the error with VoiceOver is fixed.

### 3/5 — I think its a really good mobile game :)

*2025-03-13, version 1.1.5*

Its really pricey for a mobile game. Thats a major fact about this game. You could buy minecraft pocket edition with money to spare. However, i think this game is really fun, if a but artificially challenging and kinda RNG when it comes to winning. E.g. i had 8 runs left, and i had to get 500 alien research in that time and still have one run left. I found 3 alien sites in that time after clearing out 6/7 systems. I had 5 level four and five crew members and still couldnt make it. The joy you get from winning is amazing though and it will take a few hours to complete a game unless your trying to go fast. All that said, go play seedship (the devs previous game) before you try this as its free and is more or less the demo for this game.

Edit: This game is very clearly unfinished to me. There are too many events that cause you to get shafted and they are too frequent. Example, dense radiaton hits the ship, you can prioritise the ship or the crew, if you fail rhe check on either then borh get damaged, if you win the check the other gets damaged. I had 2/3 ship hp. Get hit with this event and fail the check, I immediately set course back for home, and get hit with the same event. And fail. Not fun, really not fun. Also the fact enclusion of loss/loss check that when entering the gate on the way home is just cruel

### 3/5 — Too many flaws for the price

*2023-11-23, version 1.1.3*

I really wanted to like this game.
I love the creator’s other game, Seedship, but BtCG doesn’t quite live up to it. The narrative aspect is too weak for an entirely text based game. Every star system is essentially the same, every interaction with an alien civilization will play out the exact same way, and even every playthrough is going to be virtually identical. If it just had more variety this would be a much better game. It’s still a nice little space game, but it’s hard to justify $10 for a text-only game that fails at the only thing text-based games are supposed to be good at. I do hope this game gets updated, and maybe someday this will really be an awesome game, but right now it just isn’t.

### 4/5 — I think its a really good mobile game :)

### 4/5 — Great game, limited replay value

*2024-02-04, version 1.1.3*

Really enjoyed the mechanics and the focus on exploration, like the Out There chronicles. I was a little disappointed by replayability, after playing through 2-3 times (which took maybe 1-3 hours), I felt like I’ve seen pretty much everything.

### 4/5 — Very good

*2023-10-18*

This game is very well cleverly. It takes the vibe from Seedship and brings it into a different story that is fun to experience.

I found myself coming back to find out what would happen next, and then replaying and replaying to master the game.

It needs a some additional event types, or at least variations on the ones it already has. In a full play through you will inevitably experience the same exact script a number of times, which kind of kills the “reading a journal” atmosphere it builds.

But overall, well worth it. I had fun!

### 4/5 — Excellent but easy

*2022-07-23, version 1.0.5*

Finished on my second play through. Not much replayability. Worth it to me, as the story was great. I felt the stress getting to the end with one jump left.

### 4/5 — Great game with a fantastic narrative

*2022-07-12, version 1.0.5*

I really enjoyed this game and played it many times. The writing is fantastic, and the music fits the setting well. The interface and touch controls could be a bit improved, but are good enough to not detract from the gameplay.

### 5/5 — Loved Seedship, Love This

*2026-07-21, version 1.1.8*

These text-based probability adventures scratch an itch for me. Even after I feel I’ve experienced it all, I still go back to stretch for a higher score. Love it, I will buy everything from this developer.

### 5/5 — Fantastic game

*2026-07-19, version 1.1.8*

Perfection, buy it.

### 5/5 — Perfect time killer

*2026-05-17, version 1.1.7*

Honestly shocked this game isn’t more popular. Was a big fan of Seedship so seeing that there was another game by the same dev was a delight. Just as good if not better than the previous game, highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Buy it

*2025-12-19, version 1.1.6*

Worth every penny, it’s a book you help write

### 5/5 — Excellent Sci-Fi Adventure

*2025-01-28, version 1.1.5*

Buckle up. Do read the "How to play" section. Remember, you can click on the highlighted words during your journey, which will take you to new scenarios. Looking forward to the next game. 5 Stars.

### 5/5 — Ahh, yeah…just buy it!

*2024-08-30*

Update: A back button. It could use a back button. A bug where the music turns off when app is put in the background. I have to turn the music off/on to get it back. It would nice if it played in the background, as the music is both inspiring and relaxing. The ‘pop-up’ labels for icons and numbers is excellent! …ORIGINAL TEXT And I’m not a ‘text-based-game’ aficionado, per say (yet I read nonfiction incessantly, go figure). Smoothly moves between landscape and portrait orientations at any time! I found the instructions more challenging then just starting the game. :-) The UI is perfectly arranged and yet out of the way. Game play text accessible during the game. Everything about this production is intelligently designed. The one thing that would put this product over the top, I don’t think I missed it, and that would be both font pitch and a selection of script types everything is ‘very easily’ read because of high font/background contrast. THANK YOU! :-) Sometimes my 72 year-old eyes get tired. I see Stargate, and several other classic science fiction ideas from movies and TV. Kind of well-rounded. Very cool. Oh, OH! Beautiful music, with a Music On/Off setting, BUT ALSO a music volume adjustment control too! intelligently designed.”

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2023-07-16, version 1.1.2*

I originally played Seedship and loved the sci-fi story telling. This game exceeds those boundaries and it is very enjoyable. You almost get attached to the crew and losing a high level member does hurt. 1 criticism is the frequency of loss/loss events. It was annoying that for certain events we cannot benefit. Other than that I would like to see unique weather conditions and increased effectiveness of the medic crew members.

### 5/5 — A great game

*2023-04-25, version 1.1.2*

Strategic and challenging. Really engaging. Strongly suggest going slowly and reading the immersive descriptions.

### 5/5 — Great little game

*2023-01-19*

This one surprised me a little, it’s a good little time waster. Over all I give it a 5*, just need more options throughout the game. Give it a go

### 5/5 — Worth the price - for the app, and the lives lost

*2023-01-04, version 1.1.1*

Space is vast and mysterious and wildly interesting but it is also cruel and unyielding. This game captures space exploration better than nearly any I’ve played, and that includes $70 AAA titles. This game is at heart a random number generator with a text adventure overlay. The theme is sci-fi: humanity has discovered a way to travel to other systems. Like the author’s other game, Seedship (which is free but nowhere as developed as this - but will whet the appetite), you must explore the galaxy on a ticking clock. You will mess up. You will lose lives. You will make incalculable messes. But eventually you’ll learn from your mistakes, and you will learn about the universe … and yourself. Don’t stop just buy this game.
