The translation is incredibly accurate. The footnotes are second to none: tons of commentary that is accessible to the average person. One doesn’t need an advanced degree in scripture study to understand. I also find the notes and commentary to be spiritually helpful. Amazing. ### 5/5 — Extremely useful *2026-03-28* I purchased the Catholic Study Bible app along with the study Bible - Personal edition. It was a $15 add-on, and worth every penny and then some. If Ignatius is still offering it, definitely take advantage and buy it. The app itself is the Bible, plus study materials. Clicking on single passages brings up the commentary, notes, links to catechism, word study, etc.. There's daily mass readings, readings for Lent (at the time of this writing), an area to add notes, track highlighted passages, and other useful features. Overall it's a robust app that can be used for Bible study in isolation, or in combination with the physical Bible. I love that I can pull it up on my phone, tablet, or laptop, everything synced, and have the option to study my faith wherever I choose. The physical Bible is wonderful, but even the Personal edition can be rather larger to take with you places, or for travel. Still trying to learn to navigate it well. Could be easier at times, but still this app is a Must Have. I do hope Ignatius Press gets all this content in Verbum as well in the future. Clergy who use that platform could really use that. ### 5/5 — User-focused design *2026-02-28* I’ve used this Catholic Study Bible app since 2014 when it used to be called “Truth & Life” app. Now that it has become the Catholic Study Bible app, I can see that there are updates for audio in all books of the Bible (previously only NT audio) and the Ignatius Bible study notes come in handy (especially for the 7 Deuterocanonical/Apocrypha books). I’ve wanted a good electronic version, but this isn’t it. To see notes, you must click on each individual verse number, which makes Bible study SO inefficient. Many good Bible study apps work much more smoothly than this one. I’m very disappointed to see such a great resource being hindered by poor app design. Needless to say, I regret my purchase. Hopefully an app redesign will one day change my mind, because it does not seem like the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible will be available in more competent apps in the near future. ### 5/5 — HOORAY For The Ignatius Catholic Study Bible!!!😇 *2026-02-24* Here you can read the Catholic holy scripture,read study notes, choose from 8 reading plans,…and they’ve included a LENT reading plan for meditations and scripture designed especially for the Catholic Lenten Season. However, you’ll have to find Friday Fish Fry on your own. Plus, the app now as AUDIO. This allows you to listen to the the books of the Bible as you read it. You could click on the links and see the commentary at the bottom. It was a real study Bible. I also like that you could hear the New Testament read to you. Now with this new update, you don’t get to see any commentary more money. I want the old app back you know the one I already paid for. However, since the most recent update, I can no longer access any of it, despite clicking “Restore Purchases” and following what it says to do in the help section. It says I need to purchase it, even though I already have. I am super frustrated because I cannot find anywhere but here to comment on this issue. As far as I can tell, the update that was supposed to make things better has only blocked me from utilizing what I had previously paid for. ### 1/5 — Lost everything *2025-10-04, version 12.00.400* I’ve had this app for YEARS, and I loved the study notes, and I literally made PAGES of my own notes. Then an update came, and it was ALL ERASED, and now it demands that a purchase is required to view study notes. I’ve been unable to restore my years of personally written notes, and now it seems greed has taken the makers of this app, as the study portion is also gone without payment. Many display styles, and if purchased you have the option to choose between dramatized/read text aloud. You can use bookmarks and notes and sync these across multiple devices. The footnotes, links and commentary are pulled up on an embedded window that does not block view of the text.
