I’d prefer the pricing be higher upfront for all features. I give it 4.5 stars but could be 5 if the developers could: 1. Update Mounce BBG to 4 ed. 2. If there was someway for the audio to not autoplay when the word comes up but instead allow the student time to read the word and then select to hear pronunciation. Right now it’s either “on/off” for the entire app. ### 4/5 — Excellent but could be better *2024-06-17, version 5.20* This is by far the best app I have seen so far BUT it would be greater to have the pronunciation of the Hebrew but moreover to put in an answer (written or speaking) and it then mark if you got it right or wrong. But I realise that’s a whole another level of programming. I do love the app - it has all the words of scripture in one place. I have one request that would make it amazing. If all the Hebrew also contained the audio this app would be top of the line. ### 4/5 — Very Helpful - Needs Minor Improvements *2021-12-23, version 5.20* I love this app. I learned Greek in Seminary 20 years ago but didn’t use it consistently. Now ai mark the passage the pastor is teaching on and try to learn the new vocabulary and translate it before I go to Church. Its really helps me to have a goal and purpose to study for. I wish there was a way to be able to scroll through the different definition options for each word and tag it to a personal dictionary. Its hard to know which base dictionary to puck an inevitably some definitions will click better than others but its not consistent with any one dictionary. It would also be really helpful if you could edit your personal dictionary to help it be more memorable. To me word order matters and I often want to get rid of some of the more wordy and awkwardly worded definitions. The goal is to be able to remember them so form really matters to me. ### 4/5 — Needs syncing *2020-11-19, version 5.20* I love this app. I use it on my iPad every day. But there’s no easy way to sync with my phone, which is frustrating. There’s not even a “Restore Purchases” option, just the option to email a backup. It didn’t have the Hebrew audio but I naively thought it would and was sadly disappointed when the full version didn’t have the Hebrew audio. ### 3/5 — Has potential but many things are lacking *2020-07-16, version 5.13* Has potential but many of the functions don’t work as you would expect. The repetition function isn’t great. You have to set a lot of things manually. No Hebrew parsing. For some Greek words it only gives you one gloss while it should give you many. This makes the app not trustworthy as the only source of vocab. ### 5/5 — Best Vocab app on the market *2017-09-11, version 4.32* Great features and easy to use. Two stand out above the rest: the ability to isolate vocabulary by designated passages and viewing the individual words as well as a whole verse to see how the roots inflect; and the ability to learn vocabulary from all the popular Hebrew and Greek grammars. This last feature will be invaluable to students who can select vocabulary lists from Pratico and Van Pelt or Mounce by chapter instead of carrying around stacks of index cards. I just began a review of Hebrew and I noticed today that the app contains numerous misspellings of Hebrew words. For example Yahweh was spelled as Jehovah (YHWH consonants with vowels of Adonai), Jerusalem is missing a vowel, mar (water) is misspelled. This was after only looking at two chapters of vocab from one textbook. Definitely using ONLY paper notecards for my Hebrew review. This was a surprising and unfortunate finding. I cannot recommend this for Hebrew vocab. ### 1/5 — Don't waste your time *2022-04-30, version 5.20* This app starts with a blank screen, leaving absolutely no idea as to how to use it. Otherwise, it's everything an exegete needs to keep up with his languages. I deleted from my phone ### 2/5 — Very Limited *2015-09-29, version 3.23* This app has the potential to be useful, since the “spaced repetition” function is in principle a good way to learn vocab. However it has no effective way to register known words. You must manually place each word in a higher “box”, which is tedious and slow, and even then you can only set it to reappear after a few minutes rather than a few seconds. (There are higher level “boxes” but for some reason these are not accessible.) Filtering the sample to only a particular frequency of occurrence helps to find your rough niveau, but this does not take account of your individual knowledge. If the app were adapted to allow words to be instantly marked as “known” or “familiar”, it could be useful. Lacks English > Greek functionality (vocab learning works best if this is mixed in), and does not give morphological information (verb principal parts, noun inflections, &c.). ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Don’t hesitate, it’s rad *2025-11-19, version 5.20* Outstanding functionality. Allows me to select the chapters I want to focus on and filter out the high-frequency words from my flashcards. “Learns” from my performance and adapts to get me the repetition needed. ### 5/5 — Very helpful *2025-08-10, version 5.20* The app is very helpful for developing vocabulary chapter by chapter in the New Testament ### 5/5 — Amazing vocabulary learning and review app *2024-12-02, version 5.20* The learning mode is ideal for picking up new vocabulary: just specify the text and chapter(s) you want to focus on, and it introduces the words to you in small batches, only adding more once you’re confident with what’s come before. Then the review (slide show) mode is great for reviewing for a quiz, or — in my case right now — an upcoming final. We’re using Basic Biblical Hebrew Grammar (3rd edition) by Practico and Van Pelt; there is maybe a 10% discrepancy between the words in the book and the words offered in the app for the corresponding chapter(s), but any missing words are quickly picked up from a final check of the text. ### 5/5 — Wow! *2022-12-31, version 5.20* This is really a great app to learn vocabulary! ### 5/5 — Great, just some errors *2022-12-20, version 5.20* This app is a big help when studying Greek and Hebrew. I notice, however, some issues with some Hebrew words. I use the Miles/Van Pelt 3rd edition BBH textbook. Some words in the textbook are missing in the app and sometimes the vowel pointing is just incorrect. Other than those issues, this works out very well. ### 5/5 — The best app for NT Greek. Period. *2022-05-31, version 5.20* I really love this app. The use of spaced repetition makes it a very efficient way to study. The only con I can think of is that it doesn’t include the article and genitive with all of the nouns like the Flash Greek app, which is the way I prefer to learn. It does include these items when it is a third declension noun, however. I tried to email the developer, but the email support email address doesn’t work. Any help? ### 5/5 — Nothing else like it. *2020-09-08, version 5.20* This app is second to none. It is hands-down the most comprehensive vocabulary app for both Greek and Hebrew that I’ve been able to find. It effectively exposes you to the vocabulary word, shows it to you in context, and even pronounces the Greek for you. I especially like how with this app, one can isolate the vocabulary of a particular verse, chapter, or book(s). There are so many great features in this app but the one I love the most is the verse by verse slideshow with parsings. I’ve had the app for a while and am now rediscovering it’s usefulness as I move from trying to remember words in isolation to understanding words in their biblical context. This app achieves this goal perfectly. One other thing I also really appreciate, is the Greek pronunciation, which is reconstructed Koine from my understanding.
