BibleDesk is a free Bible reader built for people who read Scripture daily — and for the moments when the connection is gone, the service has started, and you need the right verse now. Eighteen translations across sixteen languages are available. The World English Bible and the King James Version are installed with the app; every other translation downloads once from Settings and then stays on your device. Reading, searching, notes and highlights all work with no connection at all, and nothing you read or write ever leaves your device. The widget speaks the translation you chose and keeps rotating offline. SEARCH THAT RESPECTS THE SCRIPT Most Bible apps tokenise text as if every language were English. BibleDesk does not. Arabic matches whether or not you type the diacritics. Chinese and Korean match inside words. Indic scripts match whole words instead of consonant fragments. Every translation ships with its full licence and attribution, listed inside the app. ## Version history (last 3 releases) ### 1.2 — 2026-09-19 TWO LANGUAGES AT ONCE Read any chapter in two translations together. Each verse carries its second wording directly beneath the first, so a congregation following in Telugu and a preacher reading in English stay on the same line. Choose the pair from the chapter head in the reader, or from the header in Service Mode; the choice is remembered in both. Where two translations number a chapter differently, the app says so rather than letting the lines drift apart quietly. WHAT EACH CHAPTER IS ABOUT Every New Testament chapter now opens with a short synopsis, folded away until you want it: who is writing, who they are writing to, and what happens. Two hundred and sixty of them, written for this app and stored in it, so they are there with no connection. A READER THAT MOVES PROPERLY A flick now carries the page as far as it was thrown. The reader had been re-anchoring itself to the verse under the top edge on every scroll, which stopped a fast swipe after a verse or two however hard you flicked. The app also draws at the full refresh rate of ProMotion displays, so scrolling is twice as smooth on iPhone Pro models. ALSO IN THIS RELEASE Sermon notes written as a single paragraph now have their points found properly, so the outline poster and quote card made from them carry the whole message rather than one clipped line.
