Thank you! Some of the translations are not exactly what the textbook and thus my prof are requiring. The text may have been updated (Practico & Van Pelt). Otherwise, it seems to be the best bang-for-the-buck when it comes to Hebrew flash cards. There is no transliteration, therefore you don’t know. I do like the grammar and word meanings. Transliteration would make it a 5. ### 4/5 — Mostly good, but... *2017-11-30* This app needs to updated for the iPhone X and it would be nice if the developer would us user defaults so the app could remember my preference in regards to randomizing the cards or keeping them in order. It’s like 5 minuets of coding work. I love the ability to match the vocab with the grammar I use. ### 3/5 — Great with words Bad with Review *2016-11-06* I use the app for Page Kelley Hebrew vocabulary,it works great chapter by chapter but when placed into a complied review and dwindling down the words I do know from those I don't, the definitions then begin to not match. This is frustrating when trying to study for a test. ### 3/5 — Almost Great *2016-09-06* When I first downloaded this app it was definitely 5-Star worthy... Until I started really using it. First - the flash cards are well done. Of the ones keyed to Futato, I only found one spelling error (holok), which is impressive considering that text uses 390+ flash cards. However, the definitions on the cards were created from a different text book and they did not always reflect Futato's definitions. I had to work with the flash cards with the book long enough to get the right definitions memorized so that I could then use the app away from the book ignoring the given definitions. It would be a huge bonus to be able to amend the definitions to change them and perhaps add other notes or even create new cards for other words. Also, our instructor had us ignore qal forms that are not found in the Hebrew Bible, where the verb takes a simple past in another pattern. It would have been nice to have been able to delete those cards. So why not just put them into the review and delete them out? I'm glad you asked. This is the main reason for the three stars as it's hard to forgive... On the night before my final exam, I went through all 390+ words chapter by chapter and dumped them into the review. After going through all the words again in the review I began to delete the words I knew well to pare it down to the words causing me the most frustration. After about an hour of this, the definitions began to show up incorrectly. The words came up with the wrong definitions. Not good the night before the final. I'm not sure what happened, I had been using the review tool just fine the whole semester. Nothing worked to fix it. Restart of program and / or phone did nothing. It was too late and I was in too deep to start over. The app simply failed me. A few weeks later I had to take a review test for the beginning of Hebrew 2. So I deleted the app and reinstalled it and everything worked fine for a few days. But again, when I did a wholesale dump of words into the review tool, about midway through it did it to me again. I guess when you ask it to delete too many words at a time it just gets messed up. And with a tool as important as that, being used in such important moments, no matter how good the rest is, it failed me when I needed it most. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Useful, but review feature needs work *2024-10-09* The top 1000 vocab feature is super useful, I use it all the time. However, it is split into segments of 25 words each. I wish I could study all 1000 words at the same time, or even just 100, but if you add too many words to the review feature, it matches up the wrong definitions with the words. This mixup persists even when I close and reopen the app. Overall, I will probably keep using it, but do not buy the app if you want to study all the words at once. It can’t currently do that for you. *sigh* I will update my review if I see that change. **Developer response:** This has been fixed in version 3.0. I hope you'll take a look and get value out of the additional new functionality as well! ### 1/5 — This is not a Hebrew Dictionary! *2021-08-29* I bought this thinking that there was a dictionary element in it. There is not. I wanted a dictionary but did not get one so if that’s what you want don’t waste your money. This may be of use to those who are learning Hebrew, but don’t expect a dictionary. **Developer response:** Correct, this is not a Hebrew Dictionary. It is a flashcard application. We can look at adding dictionary functionality if that would be valuable. ### 1/5 — Garbage—not worth anything *2021-08-10, version 1.5* I hate to be harsh, but this app should not be purchased. All you’re getting is a screen of the Hebrew words, no definitions, no audio—And the words do not even align with the chosen text vocabulary words. Out of 20 promised vocabulary words, the app only had 8. Working now to get refund. ### 1/5 — Waste of money *2021-02-22, version 1.5* Not every word/phrase has nekudot (vowel indicators) which makes sounding the words/phrases out rather difficult unless you are fluent. If you are fluent than you don’t need the app. Make sense? Dot waste your money... ### 1/5 — Pass on this until it’s updated *2021-01-21* I love the straightforward flash card format of this app but if you add more than a few cards to the review feature the app actually matches incorrect words on the cards. I worked with this app for two semesters.I tried deleting and reinstalling. I tried not adding so many cards to the review stack. I really tried to make this relationship work but I finally deleted it for good. Again, I really like this app but I won’t be using it as long as it has this bug. I did try communicating with the developer but received no response. ### 1/5 — Some words have no vowels *2019-04-23, version 1.5* Some of the Hebrew words have vowels included, and some don’t. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this. Very annoying. ### 1/5 — Useless to me *2015-11-09, version 1.5* It should have said in the description that this app needs to be used in conjunction with a textbook. The Hebrew word is not given in the Transliterated form. Only the English equivalent. Sorry I spent $3 ### 2/5 — Great idea; poor execution *2024-12-11* Bottom line: just use the free version of Quizlet. The “review” function would be great if you’re trying to do a comprehensive study but the words and the definitions get jumbled making it unusable. I love that the app offers multiple textbooks but there are some significant spelling errors of the Hebrew words which ruins the whole point. Also, there’s no way to track progress (I.e. which lessons you reviewed which ones you got wrong etc.) unlike the free version of Quizlet. **Developer response:** We've done a major update and revamped the entire app. Please take another look if you have a moment, I think you will be excited to see the updates! ### 2/5 — 5 yrs. old... Badly needs updating *2020-09-11* Great idea and probably executed well when originally done. But... for 5 years to have gone by (last app update) and to: -not have fixed the mistakes (see other reviews) and -not have updated the vocab lists to match the updated textbooks (e.g., Practico/Van Pelt list is completely out-of-sync with the textbook)... Makes this a 2-star app at best. 5 years is WAY too long to be charging people for what could surely be fixed fairly quickly by the developer. Not sure if something happened with the developer, but this app needs a lot of work at this point. **Developer response:** The update is finally here and updates will now be much more frequent! We've released a 3.0 build with new features and will continue to add functionality, updated word lists, and more. On a personal note, I agree that 5 years is too long. Life got in the way with graduation, marriage, children, homes, and work. I am now in a much better position to support this app and deliver better on it. ### 2/5 — Incorrect spelling *2018-09-10, version 1.5* First time I sought to quiz myself. The article (The), the app spells it with a hêt “ח” without a dagesh, when it’s supposed to be spelt with a hē’ “ה” with a dagesh. That’s not a good sign to start with. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Very helpful *2026-06-10* Have tried a few other apps for learning Biblical Hebrew for Master’s Program—this is the best. Easy to use, works with a few different curriculums (I’m using Van Pelt’s); love the ability to customize vocab lists. Developer was also super quick in correspondence & app suggestions. Making your own flash cards is an interesting concept and I'll look into making this possible! ### 5/5 — Great app. *2020-06-19* This is a fantastic app. It goes with the convention where verbs are presented without vowel markers, which can be difficult for beginners, but probably the better option in the long run compared with the alternate convention of presenting hem with Qal perfect 3ms. Some suggestions would be to add an additional practice tab for certain suffixes/prefixes, such as noun gender/number, pronominal suffixes, and the Qal perfect, imperfect, and interrogative - alongside consonants and vowels. It would also be great if the inseparable prepositions, definite article, and conjunction could appear with words (maybe highlighted, or the word low lighted, this could be similar with the charts if they were to be implemented), rather than on their own. It is for people who already have the ability to read Hebrew with the nikkud. This is not an app for learning how to read Hebrew or learning the basics of Hebrew such as letters, vowel marks etc. ### 5/5 — Awesome *2017-03-03* It is a portable system that lets me flip through cards to learn the Aleph Bet and vowels on the go. There are flashcards to go with books on hebrew. I have two of the books out of the list. It has done wonders for my vocabulary retention.
