### 3/5 — Works fine

*2026-02-27, version 34.0.10*

I’m not here to defend these e-textbook platforms that charge egregiously for low effort front end development/design/software but the app works for me, maybe I’m lucky? If you’re having trouble logging in because your school/institution isn’t listed try reading the email receipt for instructions, in my case I have to login with Campus Ebookstore (CEI) and not my university

### 3/5 — Could be better

*2026-02-10*

Its does what is need providing a text through an online platform. Need to have a better read aloud option it sounds horrible.

### 2/5 — Not bad but could be a lot better

*2026-01-31*

Not bad but could be a lot better (especially considering how many students from dozens of educational institutions pay for this)
You see I’m all for cheaper that’s not the concern there are many other issues. For starters the book only saves you about $20 maybe a little more, it makes sense to pay a little more for something that’s physical AND something you can share or even resell or a least give away to someone in need when you are done with the course. Second, I have 5 classes this semester and 1 class has no book to it because it’s a very short basic course but I HAVE to pay for it, no problem I can just opt out but no if I want to opt out of something I have to opt out of all, there’s no way to pay for just 4 classes. Also I would just like to say that few days ago I found exact content online for free.

### 1/5 — read aloud function sucks

*2026-01-12, version 33.17.4*

the read out loud function doesn't even work, keeps freezing on mac and only reads 1 sentence on the mobile iphone app. Neither connect to my speaker so that's nice!

App needs work.

### 1/5 — Horrible eReader

*2026-01-08*

This app creates a barrier to trying to learn content from text. They have worked so hard to try to protect the content that it has diminished its usability.

### 1/5 — can't even log in

*2026-01-08, version 33.17.4*

when i tell you i've tried everything. first, my university isn't even an option. sure, that's fine. second, i try manually logging in since i made the account on the website. they said my email or password is incorrect. for sure, dude. third, i try signing up for the account because maybe (just maybe) life isn't that easy. they tell me my university doesn't exist. i give up. you win. i don't even like psychology like that anyway.

### 1/5 — Tried navigating this app with a bottle of bleach on standby

*2025-12-14, version 33.17.4*

This is the worst app I have ever had to use ever. Genuinely gave me thoughts that would have me admitted to a mental institution and straitjacketed. UBC making this app mandatory for a textbook that has no other option but to purchase for 150$ (i looked high and low across the 7 seas) is actual academic torture and just by completing the course and no longer having to use this god-forsaken app, my friends and family have regarded my new disposition as “prisoner of war-esque”

### 1/5 — No access

*2025-11-26, version 33.17.4*

The app doesn’t list my Polytechnic. And also won’t accept my login credentials even when I’m literally copy pasting from my browser auto fills. Worthless. Will not be using their services again.
The desktop and mobile browsers are also pretty poorly designed as well.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2025-10-19, version 33.10.2*

Unoptimized, ineffective and unable to perform its most basic function of allowing you to access the textbook you paid for. Please avoid at all cost and find another source for your textbooks even if it costs more.

### 1/5 — Just buy the textbook

*2025-10-15, version 33.10.2*

Save yourself the headache of having to study with the worst app possible

### 1/5 — Reader is awful

*2025-09-23, version 33.9.3*

Was hoping to be able to use the reader however it has loads of bugs. The reader will randomly stop, skip words and even full paragraphs.

### 1/5 — Awful app

*2025-09-22, version 33.9.3*

I’m so sorry to people who need this app for textbooks like I do it’s so awful. You can’t log in through your university half the time, you can’t write notes in the margins with apple pens (the highlighting system is bad also very bad), writing notes in general is a pain, I had to come back to the reviews for a troubleshoot someone else offered because I was logged out of my account and I have to log back in through a different organization than my university because it isn’t offered in the list. Horrible app.

The organization is CEI campus bookstore

### 2/5 — Pages jumping

*2025-09-21, version 33.9.3*

When I scroll the pages, it jumped to 5-7 pages forward or backward.

### 1/5 — Not optimized for PAID TEXTBOOKS

*2025-09-13, version 33.9.3*

I paid for a temporary, e-book in person through my school. But if I knew that the app isn’t optimized to support students, can only assess your paid books through the app, I would’ve preferred to pay for the whole book anywhere else.

### 1/5 — This App is Garbage

*2025-09-11*

The app does not work. You try and log in to you school account and a black screen appears with several issue message. Be fore this issue the app would not stay logged in. It’s worthless.

### 1/5 — It’s as bad as the reviews say it is

*2025-09-06, version 33.9.3*

I was shocked to see the low rating, it is indeed as bad as the reviews say. Honestly, do not use the app, you’re mostly likely better off just sticking to the web browser, but even that has annoying quirks. It makes you wonder what the web developers were thinking whilst making this app…

### 1/5 — 0/10, would not recommend

*2025-09-04, version 33.9.3*

I’ve never left a review before, but this app is so abysmal that I find myself inclined to do so.

First, I learned how to access my e-textbook from another review here (Carry or Cary, I believe?). You have to use the CEI E-book or whatever option under the school login options. This information was not made clear anywhere on the official site, nor were instructions provided in the app itself. I nearly threw in the towel and accepted that I wasted 100+ bucks until the reviews here came through.

While I am grateful for the resourcefulness of other users, I should not have to rely on them for information that should have been a given.

Second, the actual reading experience is poor. So poor, in fact, it may as well be in poverty. While I acknowledge that I may be lucky in not (yet) experiencing many issues with loading and page restarts, the annotation feature is the worst I have ever seen.

Want to highlight just one sentence? How about the whole dang page instead? This happens every time I try to highlight just a single measly line, coating my digital page in a sea of blue.

While there are some workarounds (alternating between highlighting the first word of the excerpt you’re targeting, or beginning from its end and ignoring any punctuation), I shouldn’t have to rely on them as much as I am. Don’t even get me started about the text-to-speech and copy-pasting.

The second this course is over, I am jettisoning this app from my storage and into the sun where it belongs. Perhaps the light from its burning digital corpse will return the light in my own eyes.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work at all

*2025-09-03*

No matter what device I use, the app is always blank. I really wish universities would stop using this app. It doesn’t work for anyone. Look at all the bad reviews. They don’t fix it cause they still get their money. Universities need to stop using this company!

### 3/5 — 🙏

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — My university name isn’t even there

*2026-06-29, version 34.3.8*

Yo how am I supposed to exactly login with my institution if my institution isn’t even listed. My university literally uses this app and it’s not listed. Also why do I have to scroll so much just to find a university? Can’t u just add a search option instead? This the most not user friendly app I have come across.

### 1/5 — All around terrible app

*2026-06-08*

The narration is horrible to listen to. No cadence, completely monotone robotic voice that struggles to pronounce words correctly. You figure when books cost $75+ they could afford to pay a human to actually read the book to you. Also the narration stops if you lock your phone so if you just want to listen to the book your phone must be open at all times.
If you are a school administrator don’t choose this app for your institution.

### 1/5 — Credentials don’t work

*2026-05-21, version 34.1.3*

The mobile app does not recognize credentials if you try to login with your email.

Very frustrating, and has a significant negative impact on my learning experience.

0/10 - would not recommend

### 1/5 — All my ICAEW textbook contents pages no longer work

*2026-05-04, version 34.1.3*

I can no longer access chapters via the contents page or search bar. Results appear but when I click on them it does not take me to the item. Similarly, clicking on a chapter on contents bar does not take you anywhere.

They worked prior to the update so I can only assume it is an issue with the new app (for Mac).

This is a big issue given I can no longer access permitted texts in advance of my exams.

### 1/5 — Karma

*2026-04-18, version 34.1.3*

Like everyone says, this app is garbage. It’s like from 2010, barely functions, better to buy books online than here, wayyyy better. I hope apple reviews this app for scamming as they barely complete updates or cohesion with the universities they provide support for books. It’s astounding really, It is difficult not to be this honest when you are charging 100s of dollars for students and refuse to even update your app. This method of accruing wealth is wrong, off the backs of students, and you still dont fix or update or provide services, you remove infinite scrolling, you remove page resizing, your online competitors dont remove these, because you try to punish students by every chance, even when they paid you for the book.

### 1/5 — Non-Functional

*2026-04-08, version 34.1.3*

I am going to have an aneurysm. The amount of work needed just to access the app to read the books I paid for, is the ultimate ragebait. Bro, I'm just trying to get my degree. Your offline download does not work, your app keeps logging me out, a simple swipe to the next page causes my page to zoom-in and zoom-out... I sound like a boomer complaining, but I can assure you that this is not a skill issue. Had I worked on this app, I would genuinely be too embarrassed to showcase it on my portfolio. Your parents would call me a scammer. I would very much rather change my identity and fake my own death over admitting to having any affiliation with this app.

### 1/5 — Terrible book app

*2026-03-02*

This is a terrible book app. There’s no way to organize books by any method except favorites. Can’t turn pages in the books like all other good book apps and search results in the books are the worst. This company has to be making bank from universities and students and this is the best they can come up with.

### 1/5 — Making learning INeffective

*2026-01-13, version 33.17.4*

You guys took my money already, at least make it work. The reader is horrible.

### 1/5 — Making learning INEFFECTIVE

*2026-01-13, version 33.17.4*

I can’t even sign into this useless app I am forced to use just to access my 100+ dollar textbook on mobile worst piece of garbage ever invented these reviews aren’t lying be prepared to do phd level physics just trying to sign in to this GARBAGE APP!!!!!!!!

### 1/5 — awful avoid

*2026-01-12, version 33.17.4*

the app wont even let me access the etextbook i was forced to rent (which is crazy). if you can find your textbooks elsewhere please just do so 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
