It would also be great to have a space to add other species recorded at specific sites like RsPB bird count offers. It would probably provide a fuller picture overall especially in SSSIs etc. Just something that would make it better for me. ### 4/5 — Different species *2025-07-18, version 8.5.1* What do I do if I observe a species not on your id list. I saw a butterfly with similar colouring but very different wing shape. ### 4/5 — Needs to save place *2025-07-16* It would be very helpful to have the app remember details eg area (garden) and nearby town as it is annoying having to enter the same thing every day. Of course it would be necessary to be able to change this if out and about. But for those of us in the same place each day this would be helpful. It would be soo much better if you added a scale diagram for IDing. These butterflies are rarely larger than the smartphone screen displaying them so it seems crazy not to give an indication of size when that’s so crucial for a good ID. Great otherwise, thanks! ### 2/5 — Brilliant concept but far too few butterfly options *2022-07-28* This is just what is needed to quickly identify, locate and record 17 very common butterflies. Unfortunately no options to add additional species, so flawed in its design as this gives an artificially high record for those species listed with no returns for other notable species, such as the Heaths, Fritillaries, Graylings and Wall. Very disappointing. Also includes 3 random moths and a Scotch Argus! Please add an ‘Other’ category with options to add species names in the next year’s version of this App. ### 3/5 — Not enough information *2021-08-15, version 8.1.2* I enjoyed doing the count but there needs to be photos of both top and underwing plus size information for accurate identification. I am pretty sure I saw small whites but I am not totally confident they weren’t large whites … ### 3/5 — Really wanted to enjoy this *2021-07-20* I was looking forward to joining this programme, sat in the garden, counted the butterflies whilst drinking a cup of tea looking over the fields, downloaded the app and then.... Found the app clunky to work with, didn’t want to sign up for emails, join the BC club just wanted to help. After three attempts to use app and log data I’m afraid I’ve now given up. Deleting and re downloading has made no difference. iOS 15.8.4 and according to the description, it should work on iOS 14. Otherwise great app. ### 5/5 — Working again 2025! *2025-07-26* After not working at the start of the count (on my phone anyway!), when the version said it should work, I deleted and then downloaded the version available from just a few days ago! Now off to count those butterflies. Yay! Hart *2024-07-10* We have a relatively large garden full of inscect loving plants plus two ponds. Despite this, this has been the worst year yet for sitings of butterflies and moths. Since March I can say I have seen about three butterflies, all Red Admiral. We haven’t even had our large quota of Ladybirds, what are we doing wrong.
