### 2/5 — Strictly black and white

*2025-03-18*

$0.49 worth
No deception here but somewhat disappointing. You can get only a black screen with white numbers. Can’t crop the screen to change size or location of text. Can’t use a calming color for numbers so it is white numbers you’ll see all night. I guess I got my 49 cents worth.

### 4/5 — Does what it says on the tin

*2024-05-04, version 3.0*

So it’s great I can use it over all my idevices apart from watch.
Big digital time and customisable via widgets only, the app has the time n date but nothing to customise at all, like I would like it on the TV overnight as I’m blind as a bat without my specks, thought this would be great idea, and it is, but can’t change like brightness etc so unless I turn the brightness down on the TV then I ain’t doing that.
Great app otherwise

### 3/5 — Liked it until

*2022-10-03*

I liked it very much when it had a solid black background, they have updated it to a split background screen half gray and half black. I liked the basic solid black background with the time, day, and date.

### 3/5 — I loved it before...

*2020-11-17, version 3.0*

This app was the perfect simple set up for an easy visual clock on the go with the additional features of choosing which size and brightness I wanted. It had well been worth the purchase I made years ago. The 3.0 update removed the option to dim and the AM/PM display which I had grown accustomed to. I have an iPhone 8. There shouldn’t have been any lack of function with the update :/

### 4/5 — Great app - not enough options

*2014-12-09, version 2.0*

Having tenths-of-a-second would be great, or a timecode from a specific tapped time. I use it for video recording to have a synchronized clock across multiple cameras. The sub-second timing would be *very* useful for audio sync with my GoPro.

### 1/5 — Awful...

*2014-03-19*

Definitely a waste of money. Every time I use the app, it dims the brightness of my iPad to the point of barely being able to see anything. The fact that the time and day on the icon are not current defeats the purpose. I had hoped to use it with my elderly dad.

**Developer response:** With 3.0 the brightness feature has been removed (although you could adjust it and it remembered it afterwards) in favor to the control center version.

In terms of updated app icon: Prior to iOS 14 there wasn't a way to do this. If you replace the icon with its widget on you home screen with 3.0 this now is finally possible. Please give it another try.

### 1/5 — Waste of my money

*2014-01-24*

When I open the app the date and time is correct but when I close the app it is a different date and time. I wanted my app to be closed with the correct date and time. Waste of my .99.

### 3/5 — Confusing display

*2014-01-19, version 2.0*

The App Icon says 9.42 Thursday. Very confusing.
The clock is perfect for mum - an elderly person with early stage dementia, needing just Time, Day and AM or PM in large font. - And yes she still uses the iphone and texts me every morning.
She keeps thinking its 9.42 on Thursday!!
Can you please change the display?

### 1/5 — Needs Update!

*2013-01-03*

Not compatible with iOS 6. Crashes, dims brightness, and will freeze phone. Better choices out there now.

### 5/5 — Ersetzt die fehlende Wanduhr

*2012-10-14, version 1.3*

Als Ersatz für die fehlende Wanduhr im Büro.

Und auch wenn dort eine hängen würde... als Dank für die vielen Stunden Unterhaltung mit den Fanbóys :)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not all language and format

*2020-03-24, version 2.1*

Do not recognize french or french-canadian. Do not recognize the 24 h format. Why your description mention all language and format as per device...?

### 1/5 — DO NO BUY

*2019-08-16, version 2.1*

The icon is fixed at 9.42 Thursday. No way you can just glance it to get time. You have launch the app. Waste of time and money.

It’s fake. Implies the big icon tells the time. It does not.

You have to launch the app to see the time. It’s a waste of money and should be on the Apple Store.

### 1/5 — iOS 11 killed this app

*2017-10-07*

Worked great until iOS 11–then it no longer does what it’s supposed to do. Please update!

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2016-07-04*

Who doesn't want the correct time and day to be displayed when the app is closed..ugh

**Developer response:** Prior to iOS 14 there wasn't a way to do this. If you replace the icon with its widget on you home screen with 3.0 this now is finally possible. Please give it another try.

### 1/5 — Very disappointing

*2016-04-01, version 2.0*

The clock looked great but as soon as the app opens the display brightness dims to the lowest level. Once the app is closed the brightness stays at the lowest level. You have to go into your settings to reset it every time, which makes the app unusable. A complete waste of money. Sigh.

### 1/5 — Terrible!

*2015-05-10*

Awful!! Doesn't display the actual time on the app icon.

**Developer response:** Prior to iOS 14 there wasn't a way to do this. If you replace the icon with its widget on you home screen with 3.0 this now is finally possible. Please give it another try.

### 1/5 — No settings to change & no 24 hour format

*2015-03-31, version 2.0*

This app this very basic. You can change the brightness by sliding up and down.

I was hoping to be able to change the date format. What you see in the screen dumps is ALL this app does. I was hoping for 24 hour format.

You can go into settings and add seconds.

### 1/5 — Big clock hd

*2014-11-28*

Don't buy it!

### 1/5 — Crap

*2014-08-17*

This is crap doesn't show correct time till you open it. Always shows Thursday 9:40 on screen

**Developer response:** Prior to iOS 14 there wasn't a way to do this. If you replace the icon with its widget on you home screen with 3.0 this now is finally possible. Please give it another try.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2014-04-18, version 2.0*

I bought this app because I wanted to be able to glance at my iPad and see the time clearly on the icon. The icon for this always says 9.42am Thursday no matter what day or time it is. Guess I'll just go back to squinting at Apple's tiny clock face.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — No more glasses

*2024-08-23, version 3.1.1*

Exactly the app I needed to see the time and date at all time. I activated this app to start automatically at start up. I love it. I need glasses only to read so without glasses it was impossible to read the top corner of my laptop for the time. I operate with an extra external monitor - so now I can watch a movie on my external monitor without glasses and at all time see the time & date on my ladtop main monitor.

### 5/5 — Does what it says

*2022-05-03, version 3.0*

Does what it says, no more and no less and for free. What’s not to like?

Useful addition to the stack in a widget.
Easy to set options and easy to view.

### 5/5 — Does what it says

*2022-02-01, version 3.0*

The 1 star reviewers are absolute morons. You can’t update the icon. The idea is you have the app open and left open.

### 5/5 — Datumsanzeige nur in „englisch“

*2020-08-30, version 2.1*

...leider keine keine „deutsche“ Kalenderanzeige, sonst ist die APP einfach und tut was sie soll ;)

### 5/5 — Works great, you can read it from the back of a classroom

*2019-04-26, version 2.1*

Bugs noted in earlier reviews seem to have been fixed.

### 5/5 — Simple yet Elegant & Classy

*2019-04-15*

I appreciate that this clock also displays the date and time.

Some people have complained about the app icon not being a live clock. They do not understand that an app developer can only use a static image as an app icon.

The Apple clock icon does show the actual time, but it does not open to a full screen clock which is the purpose of Big Cloch HD.

### 5/5 — Can’t show time on icon due to Apple’s limitations

*2017-10-13*

The reviews that criticize the app for not being able to show the time when the app is closed don’t understand how apps work.

Apps can’t do that because Apple won’t let them.

If you want an app to show you a big clock on your iPhone or iPad, I’ve bought several and this is the best one. You can control the brightness by dragging your finger up or down on the screen.

The app needed an update for iOS 11, which has now been done, so it works fine again. Thanks to the developers!

### 5/5 — Has worked well for years -- simplicity triumphs

*2016-08-23*

This is the only clock I've found that does what I need. Each night, I put it on my night stand, and it shows me the time -- and day and date -- with a simple, classy Helvetica-like display -- easily dimmed or brightened. Double-tapping orients it if necessary. Yes, you need to make it brighter before you switch apps. On the other hand, it is just right for quickly adjusting your screen brightness without menu-ing through Settings. All this is enough for me. I like, I need it. Simplicity beats overloaded functionality every night at my house.

### 5/5 — Very Easy to Read

*2015-09-05*

Don't let the bad reviews put you off. This is a very readable clock, especially on the iPhone in landscape mode.

### 5/5 — 4", wurde Zeit

*2013-10-31, version 2.0*

Jetzt wieder meine erste Wahl. Das 4"-Update war schon vor einem Jahr fällig.
