But my playlists and wishlists are still gone. Haven’t tried CarPlay since the update. I also need the ability to sort playlists by release order. They are all out of order. ### 1/5 — New big finish app *2024-08-06* This new app is a waste of time I have done what other people suggested and give it a few day I have downloaded the app and logged in it comes to the point where it shows your library and all I get is error try again I have deleted the app and done it several times no change I do have preorders with big finish if I can’t listen to them I’d rather have my money back I did used to buy loads of big finish but the stories are becoming very stale but I do believe more tests should of been done on the website and app before it was released it has annoyed so many people including myself my point is why fix something if it’s not broken the old app was fine this one is shambolic. ### 1/5 — Can’t use on my phone *2024-08-06* My phone is stuck on iOS 15.8.3, and with this new app being created, the minimum iOS version necessary for it is now version 16. Here’s hoping that either older iOS gens are grandfathered in, or my phone can get the update needed to bounce to iOS 16. ### 1/5 — Why?! *2024-08-05* Why replace the old would app with this inferior nonsense. Why did you take away the option to sort by collection and or range? It’s unfortunately counter productive. Plus, despite saying this new update will fix everything, my ‘once and future’ are all still missing. For, seemingly, no reason you’ve scrapped a fine working app for this rubbish! Why?!? ### 1/5 — Can’t sort by doctor or companion *2024-08-05* Unlike the old app, you can’t sort by doctor, companion, or anything that makes it easy to find the stories you’re looking for or sort to easily put together playlists. A downgrade in every way from the previous app ### 2/5 — Not as good as the old one *2024-08-05* This was clearly not ready for rollout yet. While the initial errors with missing downloads appear to have been fixed, the fact remains that this app has less functionality than its predecessor. I miss being able to search by category, and it keeps reverting me to “Purchase Date”, which isn’t helpful when wanting to know what was the most recent published or what the next story in the sequence is, as I may not have bought them in order or bulk purchased and then they are jumbled. While I can sort by date published, it would be nice to be able to make that the default if one so chose. It also is difficult to delete downloaded files; no more simple swiping. The menu is quite hidden and takes many clicks. I still like having the accessibility quickly to my purchases instead of having to download to my computer and sync, especially when I’m in the field, and download speed seems to be improved. ### 1/5 — Update STILL not optimized for ipad *2024-08-05* And EVERY single time I open the app, it ALSO opens up Settings on the ipad for the app. Get your act together or ensure the other version of the app is usable. Also, I have ONE title downloaded yet when I Downloaded the list doesn’t update in the app. ### 1/5 — Will Save Me Lots of Money *2024-08-05* I’m sure this wasn’t Big Finish’s intention, but the experience of this new version of their app is so terrible, I won’t bother to buy more audios till this is completely overhauled. No ability to use a password manager or even copy-and-paste your credentials was the first red flag even before I had signed in. Lack of CarPlay means that the experience in my car — where I listen to 95% of the audios — is not just worse, but more dangerous. Then I find out you can only listen to one audio at a time, because if you switch from one story to another, you lose your place. Unconscionably bad design! All of this can be fixed, but it should never have been released like this. Big Finish, “We love stories, but apparently not audio players.” ### 2/5 — Slight Improvement *2024-08-05* At least they sorted my library purchase order. However, there’s still an issue with incorrect dating of certain titles and as I prefer to set my library to release date, whenever I close the app or go to settings then revisit the library page, it resets back to purchase date. So I’m still not thrilled. ### 1/5 — Just Awful *2024-08-05* Not that the old app was much better but at least it functioned, this is a very poor replacement that is no where near where it needs to be. Interface is counter intuitive, items missing from library, issues with crashing, loading and logging in. Does the basic of “playing Audiobooks” but you’d think even Big Finish would struggle to mess that up, has no features beyond this, somehow even less than the original app which also lacked basics such as browsing the store. Though even if you could browse the store, with the shambolic effort they’ve made of redesigning that, perhaps it’s for the best. ### 1/5 — Needs a lot of work *2024-08-04* I wish they hadn’t stopped supporting the old app. I had to change my password to be able to log in. Old playlists are gone. I made new playlists but they are not in timeline. A lot of my purchases aren’t showing up. Can’t find my wishlist on the new website either. Please just let us use the old app. At least all my purchases are on it. Not working with CarPlay makes it useless too. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Log in does not synchronise/work *2024-10-12* Logging in does NOT work! I tried to log in with my app details to redeem free DWM Issue 609 Promo and said wrong password. Fine. I update it online and I’m in. Then my app says incorrect password, and the links to reset it just aren’t loading. It’s like the website and the app just do not communicate credential changes. It’s painful, synchronise these like the old app did! Refuse to use until this app is workable. However, THE OLD APP WORKS FINE!! Ridiculous! Proves the issue isn’t me but the app! And yes, I had reset my password as I have used this app until I got a new phone and need to log in again. I’ll keep using the old app… to keep the old one on the App Store speaks volumes in your confidence in this new app Unacceptable in this day and age. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2024-10-04* The app won’t let me log in even though I am able to log in on my web browser, not sure why they released this newer app as I heard others are having issues with it too ### 1/5 — This app is appalling! *2024-08-22* I have never provided a review so bad. The new purchases stop playing half way through. Then the app freezes. Artwork disappears and reappears. Truly disappointing. ### 1/5 — No Car Play *2024-08-12* I listen to these audiobooks during my commute to work. And this new app is garbage. It takes 10 minutes to download a story that took the old app 10 seconds to download. But most fatally it doesn’t do apple carplay which is how I listen to these. Now I have over 500 things I haven’t yet listened to and can’t access them. I’m having significant Big Finish regret right now. Addendum, as I try and use this more it just becomes more and more evident how unusable it is and how little thought went into serving the customer as opposed to the app maker. This app is a useless piece of feces that never should have seen the light of day. I wish I could give it -10 stars. It didn’t earn the 1 that was the lowest rating possible. ### 1/5 — What a disappointment *2024-08-10* The old app was much better. This app doesn’t work when offline. Regardless of airplane mode or not. The look is so basic it doesn’t even have a proper search like the old one. It looks like an early 2000s app primitive. ### 1/5 — A very poor replacement to the old app *2024-08-09* There are zero improvements to this app over the old one. You can’t search by the actors name. Which means you can’t find everything with the fourth doctor, for example. Every time I open it, it forgets all of the preferences I set up the last time I had it open. For example, I have to select display by release date again. There’s no way to tell if a book is currently available or not once you purchase it. You have to click on it to see that will be released at the end of whatever month. Then on top of all of these problems, it takes forever to download anything, and sometimes it says it’s downloaded and it isn’t. This app makes me want to stop purchasing things from Big Finish. I love their Doctor Who audio plays. However, if there is no way to listen to them easily, what’s the point? I don’t even know what’s out these days. The current releases aren’t even displayed on the website anymore. All in all I may be done with Big finish. ### 1/5 — Can no longer listen to stories *2024-08-09* So disappointed that these updates are not making noticeable improvements. Used to listen to stories daily. Now if I can download story, it disappears the next day. I’m also still not convinced that the new app is an improvement on what has gone before BUT things are improving. As of today, my app is showing all of my purchases (I think) and there seem to be fewer glitches. It’s good that the people at Big Finish are listening to feedback. Is there any chance of being able to use the app on Apple CarPlay? I really used to enjoy listening to stories while I was driving…. ### 4/5 — Awful *2024-08-04* I downloaded this new app and tried to log in but it wouldn’t except my details, even though it still works on the old app so I’ve deleted it and will continue with the old app Update After having to reset my password so I could actually log in to the website, I retried to use the app and it is now working but only on my Apple product not available on anything else ### 3/5 — Flawed *2024-08-09* Loved the original app, this new one is definitely a downgrade. The inability to sort by category of Doctor or similar is a real shame. The app seems to be very disorganised too. Big Finish takes great pride (justifiably so) in the quality of their shows so this rollout was a disappointment to me. I hope they get the remaining issues fixed so we can go back to listening to our Dr Who adventures. ### 3/5 — Answer to Log in Issues *2024-07-30* I can see a few people have reviewed and are having issues with their passwords. A post by Big Finish on X (Twitter) and on the news article on their website clearly states u must reset your password from the Website FIRST then log in with your new password on the new App. As a review to the new app, the box sets are smaller in size and are crammed onto the screen making it much harder to read than the old app, and there is no filter by collection option, which was available on the previous app. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. A UI update would have been nice but the new app is not as good as the old and the old one had no problems. ### 2/5 — Hard to use and doesn’t fully work *2024-09-17* I don’t always purchase stories right when they are released, so sorting the stories by purchase date isn’t always helpful. I preorder or buy old stories on sale way after release. But when I use the app to sort by date released, all the future stories that haven’t even been released show up at the top, and I have to scroll down and then guess when I’ve reached the most recent release. There’s no way to tell without clicking on each story. Also, I can’t see what’s been released, but not purchased. That was often how I knew if there was something I missed that I’d like to go buy. This doesn’t affect the use of the app, but I’m definitely going to be going to the website less without that. And, stories aren’t downloading consistently. For example, the most recent purchase shows up on the list, but when I click on “download,” I just get a try again message. ### 2/5 — Disappointed *2024-08-11* As others have said, the app is not as good as the old one, quite a few features were taken away and this new one feels more bare bones. As for the rollout, I know that snags are inevitable and I credit their team for working hard to rectify issues, but I noticed after updating the app that a bunch of my downloads had suddenly vanished. Most of them included “Part 1” freebies that I hadn’t even had a chance to listen to yet. I contacted their support team and hope they can shed some light on this. I’m glad I backed everything up to my desktop hard drive before the whole website revamp took place, but I prefer the convenience of listening to the stories via the app. ### 2/5 — Going backwards *2024-08-08* This new app lacks the stability of the old version. This replacement has none of the functionality, doesn’t load my whole library, and is just an all-round disappointment.
