Outstanding! *2024-04-26* We saw so much more than we ever would have! Been to the big Island 4 times and knew hardly anything until we had Andrew as our driving companion! Thanks for the extra hikes! We were exhausted. When Andrew says take a left here “it’s mandatory”, do it!! This guide does not disappoint. We have been fans of Hawaii Revealed from day one. 35 years of visiting the islands every few years makes having the latest revealed info mandatory and the driving tours deliver! Started by listening to it at home prior to departure & then whenever we had new family members or guests driving in the car with us…even the grandkids (7 & 4) wanted it started back up when we returned to the car—after the recommendations at a specific mile marker. Thank you for creating this for all of us. Have you done ones for the other islands ? The Ancient Navigation Stones (still a mystery as to who & when these accurate long sea site markers were created). Mahalo again and a hui hou ### 5/5 — Great Audio Guide + Book *2023-09-09* I discovered Andrew Doughty’s Revealed books in 2000 when a friend loaned me her copy for Kauai. 23 years and many islands later, I can confidently say these guidebooks are the best and will spoil the reader with their level of detail, information, and tips that enrich a visitor’s experience. This year, I purchased the current edition of The Big Island Revealed and read the brief mention of the app. Knowing the huge difference the books have made during my trips to Kauai, Maui, Oahu, and the Big Island over the years, I knew the app would be worth it. Sure enough! The app was like having an informed travel guide in the car with us. Andy’s commentary was not only helpful with navigation as we drove over 900 miles exploring, but entertaining, as well! We even laughed out loud and chuckled a number of times. The app does not replace the book, but is an excellent addition, especially as it frees up the navigator from having his/her nose in the book (missing breathtaking scenery) as Andrew calls out the turns and describes highlights, destinations, history, and fun facts. Note that the app doesn’t replace using a driving direction app, as it doesn’t berate you with every little detail, but it does call out highlights along the way. You can also choose “browsing mode” and listen without being in the actual location (e.g., to preview). Highly recommended and many thanks to Andrew and his team for all the countless hours and hard work to make such outstanding travel guides!!! We usually buy the most current edition each time we go, just to make sure that we’ve got the latest and greatest info. We found out about the app through the newest edition of the Big Island book and decided to give it a try. The app has been great to listen to as we drive throughout the island and we visited a few areas that we probably would not have known about otherwise. We enjoyed Andrew’s sense of humor along the way as well! The fact that it would give different narration depending on the direction you were driving on the road was far more than I was expecting. And the commentary was great. As soon as my wife complained about all the speed bumps the narration would comment as well. He really knows this island. Our Big Island experience was so much better because of this driving app. The precise locations and directions made navigation easy, and we loved the fact it outright advised to not do certain stops over others. We learned about the Big Island’s past and present, the economy, history, culture, and geology. It didn’t drain our phone batteries. Highly recommend. It is stuck in a continuing loop of “check your internet connection” popup messages. ### 2/5 — Informative But Only Works In One Direction *2025-10-23, version 5.0* The app is informative when it worked. It’s designed to work in a counterclockwise direction (which was not explained in the app description) and we traveled in a clockwise direction from Kona to Hilo to South Point and back to Kona, so it didn’t work well for us. Really appreciated the great information about the island. However, sometimes the audio would appeared to be playing but no sound would come out of it, or just cut off in the middle of the narration. This usually happened where cell phone signal was low or not available. I decided to check out the app. We didn’t regret it. I wish I knew about these travel guides when we were on Kauai. The driving tour is just fantastic. The book includes the same information, plus a LOT more, including very frank reviews of restaurants and resorts. The descriptions are excellent and in-depth and personal. This took us to intriguing locations that we never would’ve thought of stopping at and helped us interact with people in a way that we never have. He is thorough, knowledgeable, interesting, and as my wife says, snarky funny. He gives us insights into the islands that we wouldn’t get anywhere else. He also has a great voice to listen to as you’re driving along absorbing the sites and the information he’s passing along. We started with his Kaua’i guide on our last trip to the islands, which led us to purchase the Big Island guide for our current trip. Two friends from England joined us for part of the stay. They also loved Andrew‘s tour guides. They bought one for each of the two islands they visited after they left us, Maui and Kaua’i. Andrew Doughty does a great job with both the spoken and written words in his travel guides. We especially enjoyed his description of the navigation heiau on the north end of the Big Island. His discovery of the meaning of the rocks in the heiau was fascinating. He’s a smart guy, and we feel enlightened by having him along with us on our visits.
