## What is Bike Builder?

Build your perfect ride.

Bike Builder helps you spec a bike part-by-part — frame, drivetrain, wheels, components — with live weight + price totals and real-time compatibility checks. Catch the mismatches before you place an order, not after.

New: Help Me Choose.
Not sure where to start? Tell Bike Builder how you ride and a couple of body measurements, and it ranks frames that fit YOUR geometry — matching stack and reach, then showing you exactly why each frame made the list. The fit estimate comes from your height, so it's a starting point to confirm with a fitter, not a final answer. And nothing is pay-to-rank: Western premium and Chinese direct-to-consumer frames are judged on the same axes.

New: Complete Bikes.
Browse 70+ real, manufacturer-spec'd complete bikes — road, gravel, and all-road — and compare them side-by-side against the builds you've spec'd yourself. See "buy it complete" and "build it yourself" pricing together, so you know what you're really trading. Every bike opens straight into an editable build: start from the real spec, then make it yours.

New: Compare 2.0.
Put up to six builds head-to-head — with photos, total weight, total price, and full geometry. Bike Builder highlights the best number in each row, spells out the gap to it, and charts weight and cost so the trade-offs are obvious at a glance. Fit numbers (stack, reach, head angle) show side by side with no "winner," because fit is personal.

28 compatibility checks.
As you swap parts, Bike Builder runs its checks behind the scenes: freehub standards, brake types, rotor sizes, tire clearance, tire width on wide rims, hookless rim safety, speed counts, chainring BCD, cassette range vs. your derailleur, bottom bracket shells and spindles, axle standards, cable routing, integrated cockpits, proprietary seatposts, and more. You'll see plain-language warnings the moment something won't work — and exactly why. A starting point. Your local mechanic still has the last word.

Built openly. Growing weekly.
Bike Builder launched in May 2026 and the catalog grows every week — 700+ parts across 100+ brands and 16 categories, with Western premium and Chinese direct-to-consumer carbon on the same screen, no hidden hierarchy. The catalog updates over the air, so new brands land without waiting for an app update. Made by a builder who got sick of his own spreadsheet. Don't see a brand you want? Email bikebuilder.hq@gmail.com or tag @bikebuilderhq and we'll add it.

Real prices. Real shopping list.
See real prices from real retailers as you build. When you're done, Bike Builder generates a shopping checklist with direct links to where each part is in stock — so you can compare totals before you click "buy."

Built for builders.
Whether it's your first build or your fifth, Bike Builder is the spreadsheet you don't have to maintain. Plan it. Compare up to six builds side by side. Share your build card to Reddit, Instagram, or WhatsApp. Then ride it.

### 3/5 — Limited selection, shilling for affiliates

*2026-05-30*

This is basically just an app of affiliate links with very limited selection, not particularly helpful.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the honest read — you're right that we're not there yet. Bike Builder is half-built.
Catalogue depth is going to keep getting deeper (bottom brackets are missing — a real gap that came up during my brother's build this week). And you're right that the build experience needs to come first, not the buy button. Working on both.
Also coming: a "help me pick" frame finder, a build sheet you can hand your local bike shop, a web version, and a lot more brands. Free while we build.
Stick with us if you can. Feedback goes straight to me.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.2 — 2026-09-08

New in 1.4.2:
• Buy links for 60+ more brands — Enve, Shimano, SRAM, Zipp, DT Swiss, Campagnolo, Mavic, Reserve, Vision, Reynolds, Industry Nine and more now link to Competitive Cyclist.
• 50 new parts: Shimano Dura-Ace and Ultegra wheelsets, Enve Melee and Fray, Ridley Falcn and Noah Fast, 3T Ultra and Racemax, plus new-generation Roval, Zipp, DT Swiss and Mavic wheels.
• Fixed cut-off text on frames with long paint, fork and bottom-bracket option names.
• Sturdier price handling for over-the-air catalog updates.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-08-12

• New: rate Bike Builder right from Settings — we'd love to hear what you think!
• More reliable catalog updates: a single bad part entry can no longer block the whole catalog from refreshing.
• Wheelset rim depths now support fractional manufacturer specs (like 54.5mm) for exact-spec accuracy.
• Under-the-hood hardening across the wheelset catalog.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-07-21

Three new ways to choose, compare, and start — plus a new check and two fixes.

• Help Me Choose — a guided flow. Tell it how you ride and a couple of body measurements, and it ranks frames that actually fit your geometry — and shows you why each one made the list (stack, reach, the math). It's a starting point, not a verdict: the fit estimate is from your height, so confirm with a fitter before you buy. No brand pays to rank higher — everything's judged on the same axes.

• Complete Bikes — browse 70+ real, manufacturer-spec'd complete bikes (road, gravel, all-road — no MTB), compare them against your own custom builds, and see "buy it complete vs. build it yourself" pricing on one screen. Every single bike opens straight into an editable build — swap one part or all of them, and the compatibility engine keeps checking as you go.

• Compare 2.0 — line up to six builds side by side with photos, total weight, total price, and full geometry. The best number in each row is highlighted, the gap to it is spelled out, and weight + cost are charted so the trade-offs jump out.

• New check: cassette vs. derailleur range. You'll get a heads-up when a cassette's large cog is outside what your rear derailleur is rated to handle — that's 28 compatibility checks now running behind the scenes.

• Fixed: brands now sort A–Z no matter how they capitalize their name (sorry, evolve — you're back where you belong). And "Buy" buttons that were missing for several direct-to-consumer brands now route correctly to the retailer's product page.

• As always: when we can't verify a number, we show the gap instead of inventing one.

700+ parts across 100+ brands, updated weekly without app updates. Don't see a brand you want? Email bikebuilder.hq@gmail.com.

### 1.3.2 — 2026-06-13

Fixes & sturdier plumbing.

• Compare Builds: the "+" button on the empty compare screen now opens the build picker (it was unresponsive — sorry!). There's also a big friendly Add a Build button right on the screen now.
• Chainring picker: rings are no longer incorrectly blocked on cranks whose BCD spec carries extra text (e.g. "110mm (4-bolt)" now matches "110mm" rings).
• New check: you'll see a heads-up when a standalone chainring's speed rating doesn't match your drivetrain.
• New check: tires measure wider than their label on wide rims — you'll get a heads-up when your combo is likely to run close to the frame's clearance limit.
• Added support for Cannondale's PF30-83 Ai bottom bracket shell (SuperSix EVO CX/SE).
• Under the hood: weekly catalog updates are much more resilient — a single unusual field in new catalog data can no longer hold up the whole refresh.

The catalog keeps growing — now 700+ parts across 100+ brands, updated weekly without app updates. Don't see a brand you want? Email bikebuilder.hq@gmail.com.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-06-08

The compatibility update. Bike Builder now runs 25 checks on your build (up from 18) — including the stuff that's bitten real riders:

• One-piece cockpits: frames that need an integrated bar-stem now say so, and the stem slot explains itself.
• Proprietary steerers and seatposts get flagged — with the maker's own notes.
• Hookless rims: tires their manufacturer says aren't hookless-compatible are grayed out with the reason. Conditional ones tell you to check the chart first.
• Electronic-only frames warn you before you fall for a mechanical groupset they can't route.
• Campagnolo's new QCK-Tech and Pro-Tech bottom brackets are in.
• Honest share cards: an unfinished build now says "WEIGHT SO FAR" and how many parts are left to pick.

We check what manufacturers publish, but always confirm with the manufacturer before you buy. Happy building.
