I suddenly became aware that I had to find a gear ratio compromise between the flat road and the hill. I was recommended the app and I could understand gear ratio’s in a much clearer way than I did before. I even teach children about gear ratio’s, as part of my education role in Bristol where there are a lot of hills. I wonder if the trend of bike manufacturers towards a single ‘granny ring’ on the crank end and a ridiculous 55T cassette (that compares to the size of a dinner plate) would be a good way to bring the necessity of having access to different gear ratio’s home to the uninitiated? Perhaps the current trend is just a cynical move by drivechain manufacturers to charge £100 for a new cassette? I also cycle on 7 speed road bikes with 11-23T as well as 8 and 9 speed mountain bikes 12-34T with triple chainrings 42/32/22. I just enjoy the experience and like variety. What is the use of it ? ### 1/5 — Not a full fledged calculator. *2019-10-16, version 2.0* Does not do “European sizes” many inaccuracies. ### 2/5 — 52T support *2023-12-12* With 12 speed, cassettes tool simply must support up to a 52T in order to be fully useful. Also, the jumps and tire sizes are too great. In the AppStore it has a white background with two gears but when I download it to my phone the app is black on my home screen interface. That’s where it loses one star.
