After looking at the photo of the grave marker, I am unable to get back to the main page without shutting down my phone and restarting. ### 4/5 — The good and bad *2025-06-29, version 5.2.2* There are many things to like about building Graves. Their GPS is fairly good although I’ve gone to one cemetery and looked for the gravesite and it says I’m standing but it’s not there. I have a paid subscription and I have to watch. Let the app has me as advanced rather than basic. This causes a lot of wasted time and grief if you are advanced, it should leave that alone. Many had inscriptions that were fading or the underlying stone is being eaten away and becoming unreadable. BG manages to capture these memorials before they suffer oblivion and can let you see them (usually) in a better condition than you would today. Check whether you can help and cover your local Cemy before it is too late - it’s great exercise and you’ll help many people trace their ancestors! ### 2/5 — Unnecessarily Difficult to Use *2023-08-17, version 5.1.11* I have been volunteering to take photos of graves for another organisation for years. However, its outdated design gives the impression of using a relic from 2008 instead of a cutting-edge app in 2023. Improved aesthetics and modern features would greatly enhance the user experience. At times, finding certain features can be challenging, like discovering the ability to effortlessly link images or transcribe inscriptions directly at the graveyard. Despite these usability issues, the app's incredible purpose shines through, and I find myself relying on it extensively. With a refreshed design and improved feature discoverability, Billion Graves could become an absolute standout in its field. ### 1/5 — Worthless *2023-03-02, version 5.1.8* This app has never found a single family member. I even put in the names in my family’s graveyard. Nothing. Waste of space. ### 3/5 — Great cause, poor App *2023-02-19, version 5.1.8* Continually frustrated by how clunky the App is. Visited a cemetery this afternoon and could not get it to let me add the cemetery. So I went ahead and photographed 80 gravestones. In the App it said they weren’t assigned to a cemetery, but it would let me assign them to one. The only option was to upload them, so I did. It then uploads them to a totally random cemetery somewhere else in the country. Again, there is no option to change the assigned cemetery. After googling for help, it seems I have to email support and they will sort it. Sometimes things doesn’t make sense. The flow of adding images to the cemetery is really stupid. You have to take photos of headstones IN THE APP. Why can’t i just assign the cemetery? Or why app don’t read location from my photo? It’s in the metadata. Please work on that UI/UX part, i understand that this is not Instagram 2.0, but this is just terrible. ### 1/5 — Can’t ever get signed in!! *2025-03-30, version 5.2.2* Every time I go to this ap & put in my password it tells me it’s the wrong password. When I requested that I forgot my password so I could change it it wouldn’t take the new password either. Finally I just delegated the ap & today gonna try to download again from ap store! I’m not an idiot, and I’ve spent an hour trying to figure out how to work this dumb thing to add photos of headstones. If you rotate it too many times you can’t turn it back and it’s stuck sideways. Once they’re uploaded I can’t see any way to transcribe them. Uploading took forever because the “upload” button is hidden until you tap on the background. I’m deleting this app and sticking with find a grave. Icons/buttons that are placeholders to links but *not actually links* shouldn’t look the same as those that go somewhere. Clicking on a headstone image should take you to the associated record. These very basic issues should not exist on an app that *relies* on volunteers recording information. Add to that the fact that the company turns around and sells access to the information freely donated, and you have something not worth the effort. ### 1/5 — Bad *2024-03-09, version 5.1.14* Don’t waste your money! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Found great grandma! *2026-07-20, version 5.2.2* We spent an hour searching the cemetery for my great grandparents’ graves and could not find them for the life of us. The app was slow and the search was super buggy (for some reason her full name showed no results, but we found her full name result via searching last name only) so you should try a number of combinations if you can’t find your person, but eventually it WORKED! The gps map wouldn’t load on web which is why I downloaded the app but it finally loaded and we found her right near the map pin. The brilliant part of this app is that it will help future generations search for relatives by distance, even if you don’t know the exact cemetery. Boy scouts can use this as an Eagle Project - even in a pandemic. And cemeteries are really beautiful places that we should all go visit more often. This app makes gathering headstone photos as easy as a walk in the park. I suggest bringing a broom to sweep away dirt and leaves that may be covering the lettering and sweep a whole row. Then walk back while taking pictures of the newly cleaned headstones. Give it a try. Check their website to see if there are cemeteries near you that aren’t complete and go help complete them.
