Your hospital has a billing team. Now so do you.

BillShield helps U.S. patients and families understand medical bills and insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOBs). Organize paperwork, learn what denial codes mean, and prepare appeal materials you review before sending—without promising legal outcomes or filing anything for you.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

• Scan hospital bills and EOBs with your camera or import PDFs
• Flag potential billing issues with on-device rules (duplicate charges, upcoding hints, and reference comparisons)
• Decode common denial codes (CO-, PR-, OA-, PI-, N-) in plain language
• Save Active Cases to track a dispute, linked documents, and status
• See estimated appeal timelines (internal appeal, external review, state complaint windows)—always confirm dates with your insurer
• Generate and edit appeal letter drafts; export PDFs for your records (you submit appeals yourself)
• Use educational hospital negotiation scripts (charity care, itemized bill, cash price)—copy and customize; we do not call providers for you
• Compare charges to illustrative reference ranges and Medicare-style benchmarks (not live insurer rates or hospital price files)
• Browse reference resources for financial assistance and billing advocacy (verify eligibility with each organization)
• Archive yearly summaries and optional tax-related CSV exports (informational only—not tax advice)

PRIVACY & DATA

• Local-first: bills and EOBs stay on your device by default
• Sign in with Apple to sync Active Cases and restore subscriptions on a new device
• Cloud AI is OFF by default. If you opt in, selected document text may be processed on our secure U.S. backend; each scan also requires per-document consent
• No personal OpenAI API key required
• Export or delete your data in Settings → Privacy & data

SUBSCRIPTIONS (optional)

BillShield Pro adds more Active Cases and AI credits for optional Cloud AI features. Appeal Pack is a one-time purchase for bonus credits and a Premium Appeal Review. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. Manage or cancel in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Restore purchases after signing in with the same Apple ID.
