First needing a subscription instead of a one time purchase is terrible. Second, i dont get what each subscription offers. Limitations on text means it will only convert some of a book? I don't know. I like the font. I have money. I dont want a subscription and I want an easy way to purchase. Just charge a one time fee to buy the app in the store. And let me upload books into when i need to read them. Simple. ### 2/5 — Ripoff *2024-11-30, version 2.6.12* I paid for an annual subscription and it never loads in. It always keeps asking for an upgrade. I keep asking for help. I get the same tired answer and there’s a disconnect with this system. I searched their entire page and found nothing. Also, when trying to convert text, the documents get very messy and it is very hard to understand. DO NOT RECOMMEND! ### 1/5 — No solution for PDF conversion *2024-11-01, version 2.6.12* I am a student and the majority of my readings are in PDF format, not allowing PDF conversion is an absolute deal breaker for me. ### 2/5 — Can’t Convert PDFs & difficult to Unsubscribe *2024-10-07, version 2.6.9* Nowhere on the free version of the app does it say it cannot convert PDFs. I’m a student and was hoping to convert my PDF readings to Bionic text PDFs. So, I paid $13 just to unlock the upload feature and find out that it does not take PDFs. I then went to unsubscribe and THERE IS NO CLEAR WAY TO. The FAQ section simply directs me to the website of bionic reading which is essentially the app. But there is no option to unsubscribe. When I click the Account button, you’d think it would allow you to click manage account but it doesn’t. The fact that it’s not what i wanted AND they make it difficult to unsubscribe is extremely frustrating. I do not and will not be recommending this service/app. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t support PDF *2024-09-27, version 2.6.9* I was excited to try the Bionic Reading app, but it quickly became a frustrating and disappointing experience. The free version doesn’t allow you to upload files, which meant I couldn’t fully test its functionality. Unfortunately, after paying for the premium version, I discovered the app doesn’t support PDF files – a major dealbreaker for me. What made matters worse was their poor customer service. I immediately requested a refund after realizing the app wouldn’t meet my needs, but they refused to refund me. Instead, they kept my money and continue to offer a subpar product. If you’re considering this app for serious reading or file support, think twice before purchasing. I wouldn’t recommend it. ### 1/5 — Lucrative *2024-09-22, version 2.6.9* The developers of this app are monetizing off of the needs of the people whom seek access to this assistive tech. Sadly a great app for a terrible focus, capitalisation. 🙂‍↔️ ### 1/5 — Do not buy. App is not as portrayed in advertisements *2024-09-17, version 2.6.9* App functionality: Poor Customer Service: Poor Company steals your money and tries to guilt you with “ we’re a startup company.” You’re still required to be responsible and professional regardless of tenure. Still waiting on my premium pro refund. I paid for a plan. Identified functionality failures and requested a refund 5 minutes after my order. Customer service responded, directed me to manage account settings. “ Delete Account” is the only option listed under account settings and when selected I receive an error message that my account cannot be deleted. A review here is just the beginning of my fight to get my money back before I start fighting on principle. ### 1/5 — Unable to upload *2024-08-15, version 2.6.4* I wasn’t able to upload anything. I paid for a premium account and there’s a 5000 character limit. Not sure what I’m supposed to do with that. Looking for another app. ### 1/5 — Absolute rubbish *2024-08-12, version 2.6.4* Doesn’t work. Tells me I have reached my limit and I haven’t even converted one web page!! This would be amazing if it worked! If it could work on all apps and webpages without having to convert it even better. This is a complete waste of time and effort! 0 stars!! ### 1/5 — Pricing Is Insane *2024-07-25, version 2.6.4* I am all for paying for a service like this because it does make reading a lot more accessible for me with my dyslexia and brain fog/executive dysfunction… But the pricing is absolutely bonkers and I see now why it’s reviewed so low/badly. You only can convert a few thousand characters per MONTH. Even as a paid user, unless you go for the plus package at $14/mo, you’re limited to 5000 characters or LESS per month. That’s maybe 500 words. That’s a SINGLE long paragraph. That means the fact you can convert to various ebooks or convert websites is meaningless bc you’ll never be able to use those with such a low character limit. (I tried to test a website I knew I would want to use this with and couldn’t because it gave me an error saying I had reached my limit despite this being the first thing I attempted to do in the app… meaning website conversion is useless unless you pay for the plus and get unlimited characters. They could have at least given you 5000 words for $4/mo. That’s still nothing; that’s maybe two long news articles or one very short story. And honestly, for $14/mo, you should get a lot more file conversions than 90, imo. Looks like there are other apps with similar reading tech to this one. They’re higher reviewed, so perhaps they don’t screw over their customers as badly. ### 2/5 — Glitches and no way to contact them *2024-07-23, version 2.6.4* I've opted for the Premium Plus subscription after initially subscribing to the Premium one, but can only access the latter (which is of no use for longer documents) and there is no way to rectify this on my end or get in contact with BR for them to fix their issue. Messages on FB Messenger go unanswered. Not worth subscribing to if they can't be contacted to fix issues on their end. ### 1/5 — Has non working functions, cannot upload files *2024-07-18, version 2.6.4* Trying to upload files, converted to different formats within the size parameters and it will not process. Basically useless. I would pay a small amount to have a working app to try this out, this app really needs to be able to do what it advertises and what functions are actually in the app which is adding bionic reading capabilities Edit: they charged me an annual and it shows my membership is free. However, after a break from reading I went back to this iOS app. It’s now completely unusable. When I tired to read one article this month it didn’t work. When I went to try again I got an error message that I’ve reach my limit. I didn’t even get to use it once in a month? While I want to support this app I can’t in good conscience pay for it not know if it’s even going to work once I do. How can the dev resolve this? Make the free tier functional but limited. Better explain what the limits are with tiers and when you are approaching said limits. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work despite premium upgrade *2024-12-15, version 2.6.12* I paid for a subscription, my account shows as a premium account, but when I try to upload it says I need a premium account. Total waste and a rip off. If you are going to charge people you should at least make sure your app is functional. I should have stayed away when I saw most of the reviews were low. ### 1/5 — Misleading and doesn’t work well *2024-11-24, version 2.6.12* The format of the documents created is very poor. What’s worse is that I attempted to cancel my subscription through the app, but was still charged 100 dollars a year later. Apparently you have to jump through many hoops to cancel your subscription. I told them the day of the renewal that I don’t want the next year long subscription, but they refused to cancel my subscription or refund me. I only used the product once and never will again because the design is so bad. The founder even reached out to me and stated he was left “speechless” by my behavior. Terrible company that has a ton of loopholes to cancel your subscription just so they can scam you 100 bucks. I just don’t have the patience to read either without this tool now. Also is fantastic for long form articles, especially anything technical. I’m perplexed by some of the reviews I see here. I use this on an iPhone and IPad and it’s one of the most robustly reliable apps I have. *Update- I took a look at other reviews- they do have issues with subscribing through Apple- that’s legit but easy to navigate. The vast majority of the other objections are absolutely ridiculous. Someone complaining it won’t work on their kindle is my fav…If you’re dyslexic (like my daughter and I are) and have to read technical information do yourself a favor and give this a try. It’s hard to explain if you don’t have ADHD, but I’ve always had this disconnect whenever I read. I read the words, but I don’t really process what it is I’m reading, like a wall blocks me from comprehending it.
