## What is Bird Hunter App?

Bird Hunter is a pro-grade, local-first North American wild bird identification and life-list app.

Version 5 expands the offline field guide with 1,595 North American checklist records, 53 rich full species profiles, a 117 MB offline ID pack, 136 licensed bird photos, and 45 licensed calls or songs where available.

Use visible field traits to narrow likely birds quickly: season, color, size, bill shape, body plan, wing pattern, habitat, behavior, voice, and region context. Results show match strength so you can compare candidates before opening a species page or checklist record.

For Bird Hunter, pro grade means decision-grade field identification: broad North American coverage, trait-scored matching, field marks, voice and behavior cues, look-alike checks, licensed media with attribution, offline privacy, and a workflow that helps before, during, and after a sighting.

Your life list is now fully yours - editable, portable, and safe. Tap any field note to edit or backdate it: fix the date and time, confidence, location, notes, or photo, and the list re-sorts itself. New Backup & Restore saves everything - sightings with photos, custom lists, favorites, goals, and quiz progress - to a single file you can bring to a new phone, with add-or-replace restore. And the new Export menu shares your sightings in eBird Record Format, ready for eBird's import tool, alongside the spreadsheet CSV. Fully offline and private, as always.

### 6.0 — 2026-06-24

**The biggest Bird Hunter update ever.** We more than doubled the field guide and rebuilt the feel of the whole app.

**400+ fully profiled species** — Bird Hunter now covers 400+ North American birds with complete, field-ready profiles: measurements, range, habitat, behavior, voice, food, look-alikes, and pro ID tips. We added 240+ new birds across every group — waterfowl and swans, grouse and quail, loons, grebes, pelicans and seabirds, herons and ibises, rails, shorebirds, gulls and terns, hawks, kites, eagles and owls, woodpeckers and hummingbirds, flycatchers, vireos, jays, wrens, thrushes, finches, sparrows, and a big wave of wood-warblers, tanagers, and blackbirds.

**Photos and bird calls** — Hundreds of newly added species now ship with a licensed photo and a real recorded call or song you can play right in the app — fully offline, with clear attribution and licensing on every file.

**Browse by Family** — A new taxonomy explorer organizes the whole catalog into scientific families with friendly names and species counts, so you can dive from "New World Warblers" or "Ducks, Geese & Swans" straight to the birds.

**Six new Field Sets** — Curated practice packs: Shorebird Shores, Warbler Wave, Waterfowl Raft, Owl Prowl, Desert Southwest, and Raptors Aloft.

**Buttery-smooth interface** — A polished pass across the app: fluid spring animations, responsive haptic feedback on Smart ID, favorites, and tabs, and a new color-art system that gives every species a distinctive tile drawn from its real plumage colors.
