Just downloaded new app and it works great.

### 1/5 — Not useful in the field!

*2017-01-14*

The sounds don't appear to be built in, as none of them would play on my iPhone 6 with iOS 10.1.1. I purchased the more expensive, but much more useful iBird Hawaii app, which worked great.

**Developer response:** So sorry. You most likely had the mute switch in the wrong position! The mute switch will turn off playback of bird sounds. If you still have the app on your device, try it again let me know if that doesn't fix it. - Thanks.

### 3/5 — Needs Island Filter

*2017-10-01*

This app would be 100% better with an island filter. I'm on one island. I don't want to have to read about a bird to find out that it only exists on a different island. It has good info but I hate wasting time reading about birds I'm not going to encounter on the island I am on.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the idea. App now has an island filter!

### 4/5 — Island categories

*2021-03-18*

It would be helpful if there were categories of the birds separated by the different islands on which they are seen.

### 5/5 — Bird ID Hawai’i

I just got this app a couple days ago after losing my book. It is actually quite good. Easy to navigate. Easy to find the bird you are looking for because you can look up by name such as “parakeet” or “dove”. The book also organizes by habitat or color. In addition you can, by tapping at the top of the screen, limit the list to a specific island. His notes for each bird are informative.
I have birded a long time but this is my first trip to Hawaii and this book has been helpful.
Well done.

### 5/5 — a clear and concise app for Hawaii

*2024-01-17*

I start by saying I am not a serious type of birder... no life lists, and I enjoy "discovering" a bird each time I discover it. With that caveat, I think this app is just what I need for my next trip to Hawaii. It wil run without internet, can narrow it down to one island, and gives the sounds in most cases. I'll write again after I return from Maui.

### 5/5 — The Very Best App for Hawaiian Birding

*2021-04-01*

This app is so helpful because it every island and which birds are on it and in which habitats. I love love love using it.

The ability to switch between islands is so fabulous.

Do you get my drift. Get this app pro or beginner you will love it.

### 5/5 — Perfect

Love the songs

### 5/5 — Excellent!!

*2020-02-12*

An extremely well crafted app. The interface is obvious, intuitive, and very useful in the field. A rarity in software these days. The author clearly spent the time to get it right. Now if he could just bring back all the birds that man has exterminated through stupidity.

### 5/5 — Excellent App!!

*2019-08-04*

I have found Bird ID Hawai`i to be the perfect companion on my weekly bike rides across Kawainui Marsh, though Norfolk and around Kaelepulu. The information about each bird is interesting and concise. It has helped me gain a deeper appreciation for the many birds I see and has peaked my interest to learn more. Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Great app for birding in Hawai’i

*2019-04-20*

My wife and I just returned from the Big Island and used this app a lot. It had all the features we desired, with a simple, logical layout and the ability to search by habitat type, color, or name. High-quality photos, video, and sounds made it easy to identify birds. The description of each species provided just the right amount of information for in the field (including where to find each species) and the links to Wikipedia pages were really convenient to learn more. One thing we really liked was that all endemic were clearly identified and could be searched for separately. Because so many of Hawai’i’s birds are exotics, we also liked that exotic birds were described with the same level of detail, and with helpful explanations of when, why, and where they were introduced. We highly recommend this app for anyone interested in Hawai’i’s incredible birds, whether you are an occasional or professional birder.
