### 4/5 — Great images- my 5 year old loves to look at our feeder and point out the birds

This is a very cool app.

### 4/5 — Very good

*2017-07-24, version 8.9*

I've struggled a bit to learn to navigate the app, but after that it's great. Lots of useful info.

### 4/5 — Love it

*2017-07-22, version 8.9*

Overall I love this app. It has come in handy on several hikes. Wish there were more birds in the app, would love a map of their distribution in the details section, and would like to see my sightings on the map (pin drops) instead of just a list.

### 3/5 — BirdId

*2017-06-18, version 8.9*

Relatively incomplete, but good photos. Let's see what time does.

### 4/5 — Pretty good

*2017-05-22, version 8.9*

It works and is functional, however I wish that there was a range function to see a birds range, or to specifically see birds only in your region

### 4/5 — Backyard Birding

*2017-05-19, version 8.9*

This is helpful as we attract more birds to our yard. It's fun and educational.

### 4/5 — More photos needed

*2017-05-07, version 8.9*

In order to identify a bird I might be looking at, I need more views of any species.

### 4/5 — Great App

*2017-05-02, version 8.9*

Bird ID is the best ever for identifying the Birds of America

### 4/5 — Great to identify

*2017-04-28, version 8.9*

My cat has a bird feeder on the window. And when he is looking out the window at the birds I go and see what the bird looks like. It's great to be able to put the description of the bird into the app and discover what kind of bird has been at the bird feeder. I enjoy this app and plan on using it more often now that I'm able to understand how to use it. When it says tick mark I wasn't sure what it meant. But now I know that it meant that the check mark.

### 5/5 — I really like this app

*2017-04-16, version 8.9*

As I spend more time outside I appreciate being able to identify the different birds I see, and learn a little about them.

### 5/5 — Quick Resource

*2017-04-12, version 8.9*

A fun, easy-to-use quick resource. It's a good education tool for my kids.

### 4/5 — An excellent guide to backyard birds

*2017-04-07, version 8.08*

This is a nice, compact app for those interested in identifying backyard birds. For less common types you would be better off with a more comprehensive app, but this one works for our needs just fine.

### 4/5 — Helpful

*2017-04-04, version 8.9*

Pretty easy to use. Helps me identify my backyard songbirds.

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2017-04-02, version 8.9*

This has been great for birds at my feeder

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2018-07-13, version 9.0*

This app is disappointing. It is not helpful in identifying birds. After noting features of a totally grey bird it suggested a red bird. It does not give many variations of the same species or differentiate male and female, usually quite different. Pictures of birds are in a random order with no organization.

### 1/5 — Not a helpful app

*2018-05-25, version 9.0*

If you have zero knowledge of birds, it’s difficult to categorize what you are looking up in order to read about it on the app. Not at all user friendly for a person who is trying to learn.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money

*2018-04-22, version 9.0*

Absolutely positively a cr** app. Don’t waste your money!
Worst search capability imaginable, horrible web design, impossible to maneuver within app. Bad, horrible app. Shame on ITunes for selling this - and placing it at the top when searching for bird identification apps.

### 1/5 — Not good

*2017-05-31, version 8.9*

This app has a terrible user experience with lots of tabs and unclear navigation.

I kept hitting search, but turns out that's only if you already know the bird's name. You have to hit identification.

There are a ton of selections for bird features which is nice but cumbersome

Then when you hit search (which took a few tries cause i couldn't locate it- hint- it's in the top right and it's a check mark), it shows you birds from everywhere in America, not where you are. I live in LA, and my top match was from Maryland. My actual match was the 3rd one down, after 2 not from my region.

The back button brings you to bird families, not back to your search. And you lose what you have previously selected and searched for. Really annoying.

When when I did find it, the detail page was missing information I wanted, and there was no way to save it to my sightings.

### 1/5 — Incomplete

*2017-03-01, version 8.08*

Terrible. I'm ashamed I spent money on this. They don't even have a grebe in the registry. I'm very disappointed. It's of no use to me for my ornithology class or general birdwatching.

### 1/5 — Prompted review

*2017-01-29, version 8.08*

I'm not thrilled with this app simply because this is the first time I'm using it & I was informed that I needed to write a review in order to be eligible for updates. I paid for this app & as a consumer I do not like being forced to review a product.

### 1/5 — Well!!

*2016-08-16, version 8.08*

According to this APP, there are no hummingbirds in the Southern or Southeastern US. I got this to identify the hummingbirds in my yard in Alabama.

### 2/5 — Ok bird information, bad recordings of bird calls

*2019-06-09, version 9.0*

Ok bird information but bad recordings of bird calls. Many of the bird calls are overshadowed by loud sounds of wind hitting the mic. Some sound like they were recorded under a waterfall. Had I known that I never would have bought the app.

### 2/5 — Not enough birds

*2019-03-23, version 9.0*

While I understand it’s advertised as a backyard bird app, the number of species it considers local is too limited. For example, we get a many warbler species passing through but it limited my choices to the common species. It should have a way to override local settings to account for migrants and even vagrants and it should list all birds in the ABA database for the continental US.

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2017-02-18, version 8.08*

Very disappointed in this app. Only one photo for most birds, and those are not accurate for birds I am familiar with. Descriptions are very brief. Cannot search with descriptive terms. Browser searches deliver much more helpful information and photos in identifying birds.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fun to use

*2017-08-24, version 8.9*

Fun for my school age kids to help identify the birds they see. I like the search format (choose the bird shape, size, tail lengthy, etc.), and how it comes up with possibilities.

### 5/5 — Nice App

*2017-08-11, version 8.9*

So far this has been a great app!

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2017-08-07, version 8.9*

Pictures are bright and colorful, well thought out app!!

### 5/5 — Easy!

*2017-07-31, version 8.9*

Very easy to use and love that it will be updated periodically adding new birds and information!

### 5/5 — Very Helpful

*2017-07-22, version 8.9*

I love using this app when hiking to identify the birds I'm seeing outdoors.

### 5/5 — Great for birders and novices alike

*2017-07-04, version 8.9*

This app is great for identifying birds of all kinds. I am really enjoying it!

### 5/5 — Helpful

*2017-05-25, version 8.9*

Just starting but it's helpful!

### 5/5 — Bird lover

*2017-05-16, version 8.9*

I live in the Mark Twin forest. When we moved here I was determined to keep alive my sister's love of birds. She could identify all the birds that came to her feeder. I wanted to be able to do the same. I also wanted to identify their song when I couldn't see the bird. By checking out the birds I see in the area and listening to the recording, I finally matched the one I hear a lot when I am working in my garden. The Eastern Phoebe is the one who calls out over and over to me as I work.

### 5/5 — Opens up a world of bird identification right from my kitchen table!

*2017-05-12, version 8.9*

This app is awesome. The guided menus make it so easy to filter down to the right bird based on size, color, wing bars, fail length etc. It gives you great pictures to confirm your selection. It also has general search capability, geographical ranges, bird call files etc. I definitely recommend. It's like an electronic Peterson's guide!

### 5/5 — Excellent Five Star Resource

*2017-04-24, version 8.9*

Anyone interested in Ornithology or any form of "Backyard Birding" will enjoy this very informative and easy to use Application.
