### 4/5 — Best bird App in the country

*2025-01-02, version 2.0.2*

This is one of the best apps for identifying birds, I mean come on the photo and microphone identification is out of this word. Great job

Please take some of these ideas in to consideration when designing and developing the future of this app :)

Ideas to add:

1. Add the ability to share birds with a link and a message pop up.

2. Add the ability to add your own content such as images, sounds, descriptions and other data only available to the user.

3. Add a filter option for all the birds like Flightless, introduced, Native, and different levels of endangerment

4. Haptic feedback option to turn on/off in settings

5. Let user (over the course of the month) vote for the best bird of the month, also have a history section of past best birds of the month in the more area

### 4/5 — Very Good

*2022-06-08, version 2.0.2*

This app is very good, lots of information and well presented. It would be excellent, 5 stars if it included a wider range of birds

### 4/5 — Add more

*2022-01-07, version 2.0.2*

Hi can you please add more birds into this app for example a brown creeper and other birds… maybe the reef heron, white faced heron and great white heron. A bittern would be nice. Ohh yea u should also add fresh water and river birds with a sprinkle of sea birds. Like the iconic whio blue duck or a mighty toroa albatross these are just suggestions but other wise love the app.

### 5/5 — Great tool for learning and with kids too

*2021-04-09, version 2.0.2*

What a great idea. I hope the other animals of NZ can be built into an app to.

### 5/5 — Beautiful, delightful, and informative!

*2020-07-26, version 2.0.2*

Such a gorgeous app, with playful quintessential kiwi humour, and great information on the local bird life in NZ. I have learnt so much in a short time and have even been able to identify a few bird calls from sitting in the backyard! Would give more stars if I could!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Do not download

*2025-02-03, version 2.0.2*

Doesn’t know what it’s talking about I saw a black bird and it told me it was a pukeko not accurate

### 1/5 — Not what it says it is.

*2024-12-13, version 2.0.2*

Purchased thinking I could identify birds by audio using microphone but note in app said this function was coming soon???? Then tried reporting the issue through the app problem feedback tab but it was not working.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work!

*2020-03-13, version 2.0*

See title!

### 1/5 — Crashes on startup

*2020-02-12*

Can’t access the app as it crashes on start up.

### 2/5 — Where are the sea birds?

*2025-01-26, version 2.0.2*

Aotearoa New Zealand being an Island nation has a lot of seabirds but Bird Nerd seems nerfed in having no coverage of them.

### 2/5 — Good start

*2024-10-16, version 2.0.2*

Good start to an app, not worth keeping tho as there’s only a few birds in here, last updated 4y ago

### 2/5 — Very basic app

*2024-06-02*

This is a very basic app that might help a beginner identify some common birds. Sadly, it lacks information, range, habitat and behaviour of birds. It doesn’t even list an oystercatcher for example. 2 stars at best for being free.

### 2/5 — Patchy and often incorrect information

*2024-03-22*

Yes this is a free app, but I’d expect a lot more accuracy. The app doesn’t use the “official” names (Recommended English Names) for several species, such as Swamp Harrier, and completely glosses over the fact that several birds listed in the app are entirely different species! (There are 5 separate Kiwi species, 3 Robins, etc.)

The app is easy to use and has links to extra information, and importantly, discusses conservation issues for most species. Photographers and sound recordists are acknowledged, the you have to search through the app to find this - every photo and recording should be acknowledged on the screen where you access it.

I installed this app before my 3-week trip but didn’t use it more than a couple of times as it really didn’t help me find target birds or identify the ones I was seeing.

### 3/5 — Add sea and shore birds

*2025-09-27, version 2.0.2*

Does not include any sea or shore birds, strange for a nz bird app with our long shoreline.

### 3/5 — Crash on Boot on a 10.5” iPad Pro

*2020-01-03, version 2.0*

Hey team, Just wanted to pass on a bug. The app always crashes before I see a splash screen or the app loads. I’ve tried reinstalling it but with no luck. I’m currently using the latest version.

Hopefully it’s an easy fix.

### 5/5 — Fabulous app for curious Kiwis

*2022-09-07*

This great wee app brightens my mornings with its random ‘Bird Fact of the Day’, and since arriving home after six years overseas, has come in really handy in reacquainting myself with our magnificent manu māori.

Beautiful, simple, and functional, I just love it!

### 5/5 — A guide in your pocket!

*2022-07-18, version 2.0.2*

Awesome app if you’re interested in identifying and learning more about our beautiful birds! Really easy to use app and has all the info and calls on it! Fantastic

### 5/5 — Fantastic app for identifying birds of NZ

*2022-02-11, version 2.0.2*

Highly recommend

### 5/5 — Such a nice app

*2021-09-27, version 2.0.2*

Great app for discovering native and not so native birds in your back garden. I have many natives birds in my garden and the app can pick up its call and tell you what bird it is. Also I can take a photo and the app can scan it to see what it is as well. A great find. Thank you to the developers of this app. It’s a winner with me. :)
