### 2/5 — Amazing, for the first day- then, stopped working.

*2021-05-10, version 1.6*

I purchased the product because my son loves birds and I thought this concept was really neat. IT WAS! We loved it. My son lit up! But it only worked for a day. Literally. It’s been a real let down.

### 3/5 — Problems

*2019-11-22, version 1.6*

Mine stopped working this week also.

### 3/5 — Stopped working

*2019-11-19, version 1.6*

After 10 months of working fine every day - won’t get past swirling wheel to play calls. I was trying to decide between this calendar or the Audubon for 2020. Without a fix will likely go back to Audubon.

### 1/5 — App is glitching

*2019-11-15, version 1.6*

When we click to hear bird songs, we just get the rotating wheel. Was working great until about three days ago. Please fix!

### 1/5 — No longer works

*2019-11-14, version 1.6*

Sounds no longer play. Hit play and just get the spinning wheel. Spins for about 30 seconds then crashes out. Please fix.

### 3/5 — Tip for hearing the sound

*2019-10-04, version 1.6*

If your phone (6s for me) is on silent, it doesn’t matter what you do to the volume, you won’t hear the sounds. It works fine if you turn it off silent.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2019-06-25, version 1.6*

No sound total bummer

### 1/5 — No Sound

*2019-03-31, version 1.6*

The app is designed to play songs or calls of birds based on a QR code in children’s books. The app appears to be playing something but no sound can be heard. Pretty much useless.

### 2/5 — Audio no work / ad frozen

*2019-01-19, version 1.6*

It worked great for 2 weeks on my iPhone X and now it won’t play sound and whenever an ad comes up, it freezes the app. Needs better programmers.

### 2/5 — Great when it works

*2019-01-17, version 1.6*

I have been really enjoying hearing all the bird calls associated with my page a day calendar, but today, the app got stuck on an ad for creating your own QR code, and won’t move past it. No thanks.

### 1/5 — Overtaken by ad

*2019-01-17, version 1.6*

Worked fine for a couple of weeks, now seems to open an ad for creating your own scan code and then redirects to webpage saying that the bird species code could not be found.

### 1/5 — Disappointing app

*2019-01-17, version 1.6*

I’ve been using this app for two weeks and am now locked out due to an advertisement block. There is no apparent way around it. This after the purchase of a calendar and many donations over the years to Cornell Labs. What’s going on?

### 1/5 — Was fun now taken over by ad

*2018-11-12, version 1.6*

This used to be a decent though limited app.

Now an ad for creating your own QR code comes up, counts down 5 seconds until you can use be app but then remains there, preventing scanning. Restarting just starts countdown again. It has rendered the app useless.

Please fix. Best, remove the ad. At least make it work as claimed, gone in 5 seconds. Or create paid option.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No sound

*2023-08-09, version 1.6*

There is no sound. It opens to the correct files and plays with zero sound. My toddler is not amused.

### 1/5 — Cannot hear any calls or songs

*2022-09-10, version 1.6*

I am able to scan the codes, but when I press play there is no sound … disappointing. Willing to change my rating upon fixing of the issue

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2021-11-30, version 1.6*

It loads, if scans, if tries… but no sound comes out :-((

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2020-10-21, version 1.6*

Audio doesn’t work in the app. It’s easier to just search the birds in the Merlin ID app and listen there instead. I hope it gets fixed though it would be cool and convenient if it worked with the book!

### 1/5 — No volume

*2020-07-30, version 1.6*

Set my iPhone X volume to max setting but I don’t hear anything :(

### 1/5 — No sound

*2020-04-10, version 1.6*

I can scan and play but, am unable to hear the playback. I don’t have this issue with any other apps.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2020-04-08, version 1.6*

I can get it to scan but hear nothing once I press play!

### 1/5 — Stopped working

*2019-11-26, version 1.6*

I loved this app and then it stopped working!

### 1/5 — App stopped working

*2019-11-23, version 1.6*

After having this for a year and a half the app no longer works. You load the bird calls and try and press play, there is just a grey spinning circle and it never works. Please fix!

### 1/5 — 11/2019 sound glitch

*2019-11-19, version 1.6*

I’ve been using this great calendar for months and suddenly there is a problem. When clicking to listen to calls it won’t connect - only spins and then freezes. PLEASE FIX.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Not working for me/UPDATE

*2026-01-26, version 1.6*

A few days later, the grey catbird sounds are audible and clear. Bravo! I have to try some more cards

Doesn’t work with the Cornell flash cards. Pulls up grey catbird, song and two calls, but I’m not hearing anything. Volume is max

### 5/5 — Turn silent mode off on your phone for sound

*2022-07-23, version 1.6*

This app should work for you if you turn silent mode off on your phone and put your volume up a bit.

### 5/5 — Works for me

*2022-02-07, version 1.6*

I wish this app had more positive reviews, since the negative ones seem to be a few years old. As of 02/2022, the app works fine on my iPhone SE. It’s a fun app to supplement my ornithology course.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2021-08-01, version 1.6*

Easy to use, quickly hear specific bird calls. Very handy when trying to identify a bird by sound only.

### 5/5 — Bird QR is great!

*2019-03-03, version 1.6*

Installed this app to use the Bird-a-Day Calendar, which gives a lot of useful information to us new bird watchers. I bought the calendar at a local Wild Birds Unlimited (WBU) store here in New Jersey. Did not know how much Cornell University has done to make bird identification fun! Our Scotch Plains, NJ WBU has local free seminars and hikes to help us appreciate our feathers friends even more!

### 5/5 — 2018 Calendar QR scan The Sound is Fixed

*2018-01-04, version 1.5*

***Sound is now working and I am easily able to scan the QR code and then play the various calls for the bird on the 2018 Calendar. Love it. ***

The app itself was quite intuitive. I was easily able to download, open the app, scan the QR on the back of the very first calendar day, the Northern Cardinal. Three sound bars popped up to allow me to listen to two songs and one call. I played all three, no sound from any of them. I checked my volume, I turned off blue tooth and restarted my phone. Still no sound. I am running the latest iOS on an iPhone 6 Plus. This rather defeats the purpose of why I bought the calendar to learn bird songs.

### 4/5 — Turn off silent/vibrate mode to hear

*2020-08-08, version 1.6*

Annoying that you have to turn off silent mode on your phone. At first I heard nothing and was really ready to slam this app but now it seems to work well. Using iPhone 8+.

### 4/5 — Can’t get past the ads

*2019-01-17, version 1.6*

I like this app and it worked great for 7 or 8 scans, but then an ad popped up and I can’t figure out how to get past it to use the app! Frustrating.

### 4/5 — Turn Silent Off

*2018-04-10, version 1.5*

Really needs to either play when the phone is on silent like YouTube and Netflix do, or have a prominent message stating the app doesn’t work in silent mode. The former is preferable.

### 4/5 — Audio works on my iPhone 6

*2018-01-25, version 1.5*

I normally leave my phone in silent mode throughout the day because the vibrate is sufficient in nearly every case. Well apparently not here. After turning the phone off of silent mode the sound came out fine.

Oh yeah, and the app is easy to use. It’s not flashy and I wish there was a search option, but that’s not why I have this app anyway. It works.
