The Merlin Bird id app, which my wife found after I had purchased this one, is so much better—and it is free! ### 3/5 — There are better free apps out there *2022-07-05* Has some good info but I’m deleting it after many years because the recordings are way too sensitive and pick up so many other sounds making it a poor quality recording a lot of the time. It could not ID it. I tried it on recordings on the computer. It got two out of nine common birds correct. It id’d a cardinal as a song sparrow, a barred owl as a brown headed cow bird, a crow as a brown thrasher, a gull as a baltimore oriole, a baltimore oriole as a red breasted nuthatch. It got the nuthatch and chickadee right. I would like my money back. ### 1/5 — Terrible app *2019-07-02, version 8.9* Super disappointed with this app, especially since I paid for it. It has yet to be able to ID anything, even when held mere feet from a single singing bird. It almost always tells me that the bird did not sing for long enough. Well, how exactly am I supposed to make a bird sing on cue and the continuously for the limited amount of time the app records for?! It would be a lot better if you could upload sound files or even just record for longer and trim the file. As it is right now this app sucks. Not worth it. It’s a terrible waste of money. I have been able to make very clear recordings and it can’t identify anything. I’ve never written a review before but am motivated to try and help my fellow man. Is this a common problem with your apps? ### 1/5 — Not useful *2019-04-21, version 8.9* Not happy with this app. Auto recognition has never worked, even with very common birds such as Northern Cardinal and Song Sparrow. I was no more than 50 feet away from a Cardinal, got a very good recording about 45 seconds long, but it could not identify the bird. Also far too many Canadian birds are missing, in my Birds of Canada book there are 21 warblers not mentioned in this app, including the Canada Warbler!
