### 2/5 — Insuffienct

*2023-06-01, version iOS-App 8.9*

Doesn’t appear to have the range of British birds.

### 2/5 — Useless on an iPhone

*2022-06-15, version iOS-App 8.9*

If you were expecting to identify an unseen bird vocalising close by, on an iPhone, forget it! Time and time again it produces ridiculous matches.

If you have a fair idea of what the bird is, it’s a useful reference tool, but there are better and cheaper alternatives.

A waste of money.

### 2/5 — Less is not more, poor app.

*2022-02-22, version iOS-App 8.9*

Not enough bird calls on this app, many British Birds missing.
Get a different app.

### 2/5 — Helps to identify birds when I’m out dog walking

*2021-02-17, version iOS-App 8.9*

I had the old version and it was so much better. Maybe I’m using this one incorrectly but the old one had a great identifier function whereby you could choose various features of the song you heard eg high pitch, melodious and the app would give you suggestions as to what it could be. This version just gives you a frustrating quiz with no information as to what song might sound like. Also when you do a recording it gives suggestions but you can’t listen to the song/call without a great deal of trial and error and faffing. I am thinking of getting a different app 😕

ore than one

### 1/5 — Useless

*2021-01-16, version iOS-App 8.9*

Dont be taken in by good reviews. This app is just plain bad

### 3/5 — Not convinced

*2020-07-20, version iOS-App 8.9*

I have tried this a lot in my garden and it does pick up what you would expect to be hearing but also some that are just implausible - we are in Surrey yet it frequently suggests coastal wading birds. Also, when I have found myself under a tree trying to identify something I don’t recognise, it just gives the same list and I’m sure everything isn’t a blackbird...

### 1/5 — Miss disappointed

*2020-06-30, version iOS-App 8.9*

This just doesnt work! The results it provides after each recording is just a list of all the birds with varying percentages. Its like saying today will be sunny, windy rainy and snow and that way they are not wrong!

### 1/5 — Useless

*2020-06-24, version iOS-App 8.9*

I personally have found this app a waste of money and would request a refund if possible! I wanted to know if a bird I could see was a swallow, swift or house Martin.... it was the only bird singing at this time..... the app said ring necked parakeet and none of the above were mentioned!!!!! I have better things to do with my time .... high expectations.... low performance

### 4/5 — Great.

*2020-06-03, version 8.8*

Bloody good for identification. Only criticism is that the noise you are recording must be prominent as it struggles to define one song amongst others. Otherwise very good.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2020-05-30, version 8.8*

I have apple se. I’ve downloaded twice. Makes recordings and I’ve followed guidance. Thinks all birds are collared doves or parakeet or some other nonsense when clearly they were skylarks or chaffinch or blackbird. Very disappointed. It deserves no stars. Not possible. Going to delete.

### 1/5 — Incroyable !

*2020-05-24*

### 1/5 — NEW UPDATE BROKEN THINGS

*2020-05-23, version 8.8*

I always loved this app and use it all the time to both remind me of what birdsong is supposed to sound like and compare - but also to record birdsong in the garden. Since the new update the recordings aren't saving - or if they are, the app crashes when I try to open them. I also can't work out how to search for a bird anymore. I have an iPhone XS max. I would love for these problems to be fixed soon!

### 1/5 — Imposture

*2020-05-20*

Aucune utilité. Reconnaissance très approximative. Une appli complètement nulle. Mon appli est soudainement passée en anglais.

### 4/5 — Can’t believe it took so long to update the UI

*2020-05-15, version 8.8*

The UI on this app has always been the worst I’ve ever seen! So I’m glad they have finally updated it. It’s still not that great but it’s a vast improvement on what it was before.

### 2/5 — Not as hoped

*2020-05-13, version 8.05*

Star rating indicated that it would be really useful. However, I will be giving up with it. I have made recording on the system with little success. Good recordings have been considered very poor; recognition has been way off, not one birdsong has been properly identified and so have lost confidence in it.

### 3/5 — Auto recognition needs improvement.

*2020-05-09, version 8.05*

My biggest quibble is that auto recognition is limited. This function was why I bought the app. Too few birds in the library of possibles. Also high probability given for birds that I know for certain are not anywhere near e.g. nightingale

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2020-05-08, version 8.05*

Thought it would let me save the recordings. Either you can’t or it’s so user unfriendly I can’t work out how to do it. And I’m pretty tech savvy. Really frustrating app, I’ll go back to the free one I was using. Much easier.

### 1/5 — Nul

*2020-05-08*

Nul de chez nul !

### 3/5 — Not good

*2020-05-01, version 8.05*

Says There is a nightingale here - no way! I find you have two be virtually on too of the bird for it to work well

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not fit for purpose

*2021-09-06, version iOS-App 8.9*

I think the birds would need to be trained to stand in front of a microphone in a professional recording studio and have a few training sessions to make it on to a short list of three possibilities.

### 1/5 — Very Poor

*2021-05-29, version iOS-App 8.9*

Very disappointed with this. Very rarely seems to identify birds correctly. I recently tried this app whilst very close to a Cuckoo which was very clear with no other bird song evident and got a ridiculous range of birds (the top match came up as a Wren ! Don’t bother with this app.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2021-05-28, version iOS-App 8.9*

Very limited number of birds and information way out of date, for example the distribution of the red kite. Likes to call all marshland song as Mallard when there were none in sight!

### 1/5 — Hopeless

*2021-05-17, version iOS-App 8.9*

Every recording I make returns the same list of results. The top hit every time is a ring necked parakeet. I live in the Wiltshire countryside. I can’t think of many birds that I’m less likely to see. Unless I’m doing something wrong I wouldn’t waste your money.

### 1/5 — Only once has this worked

*2021-05-10, version iOS-App 8.9*

I frequently stop to record a clear bird song and it has only once ID’d the bird. It normally comes up with a huge list of birds that sound nothing like the call I can hear. Needs to improve its artificial intelligence

### 1/5 — Poor

*2021-04-15, version iOS-App 8.9*

I’ve not been able to get a proper identification out of this app yet. It seems to like ring necked parakeets for some reason which makes this very unreliable. I’ve only been using it for a week or so and I will persevere with for a while longer and then assess it again. I’m not expecting much improvement though! Don’t waste you money on this one.

### 1/5 — Birdsong ID

*2021-03-05, version iOS-App 8.9*

It’s all very well updating this App, but I have IS12, and my IPhone 5 won’t stretch to 13, so I have lost the app I paid for. I am not happy!

### 1/5 — Garbage.

*2021-03-04, version iOS-App 8.9*

So vague where this apps answers that I tested it on a very loud and obvious magpie. It didn’t identify it once.

### 1/5 — Is it even a bird?

*2021-03-03, version iOS-App 8.9*

The closest this app has come to identifying what a recording has in common with a bird is anything that has feathers. Hopeless and frustrating.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2021-01-24, version iOS-App 8.9*

I agree with a previous review, I doubt all these 5* reviews. Clear audio of a distinctive bird song and the app is giving be a long list of birds it could be that sound absolutely nothing like it... usually the same list of birds every time... minimal narrowing down. The instructions for getting a good enough audio sample for the app are nigh on impossible, getting that close to the bird and only having 1 bird singing at once for a full 30s sample... pretty gutted I paid anything for this. Waste of money.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Birds love it!

*2020-05-10, version 8.05*

This has added a lot of pleasure and new skill to my lockdown activity and mindfulness in listening to birds. Love the quiz.
Bit hard to get around at first.

### 5/5 — Good

*2020-04-25, version 8.05*

Very good and accurate

### 5/5 — Excellent program

*2020-02-12, version 8.05*

Great app does what says on the tin

### 5/5 — Well worth buying

*2019-06-08, version 8.05*

A great little app that is easy to use and gives access to a world that we live alongside, but don’t know enough about.

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2019-05-16, version 8.05*

Used by myself and my grandchildren both in the garden and on walks

### 5/5 — Learning each time I use this App

*2019-03-31*

I have always wanted to know what bird makes which call - this App is teaching me with each use - I make a recording then listen to each birdsong. I am really enjoying the process - have recommended to several friends who are now all using it in their gardens

### 5/5 — Parfaitement adaptée à l’ornithologue très amateur que je suis

*2018-04-12*

La reconnaissance par enregistrement fonctionne bien et facilite vraiment l’identification.

### 5/5 — Great learning tool

*2018-04-06*

Perfect for the newcomer to the identification of bird song. You can listen to pre-recorded song and calls. Above all, you can record your own and learn what bird is singing.

### 5/5 — It makes me smile all over

*2017-06-15*

I haven't been into the countryside since I bought this app a few days ago. However, my elderly mother, my husband and myself, all enjoy listening to the songs after lunch. I play a few and they try to guess what they are. I'm sure this will get lots of play

### 5/5 — Extremely useful

*2017-05-15*

Very impressed. Not sure why previous reviews have been quite so negative; they were slightly off putting; but am extremely happy I went ahead and got this. Records well and, having practised recording with bird songs that I did know already; seems very accurate.
