However, there is plenty to things not to like and most are little things. But seriously, why is it so slow? Just slow enough that you feel the need to tap again but it then responds and you end up jumping ahead. Why is there no “recent birds” option? Why are there no favorites? And navigating between species is so tedious. There was Birdtunes which had it right but has now gone. Hint to the authors of this app, take what reviewers liked about Birdtunes. Not that hard to do. My biggest gripe is the location of the play button, why top right, the hardest place to reach?? I also feel the selection of songs for some species is not that great. I would gladly pay more for a more diverse set of songs. ### 3/5 — Clumsy and lacking *2018-04-07, version 1.8* I can’t understand what happened to the excellent Birdtunes app - that I had (twice) paid for btw. It just disappeared from the App Store and seems to have been replaced with this. Gone is the ability to save favorites or even to access recent songs. To switch from bird to bird one must type in the name each time. This app is also missing some of the most effective recordings for calling birds in the field, and some songs have been wrongly categorized. The app’s usefulness in the field is seriously downgraded by how long it takes to access a bird. Still, it is the only one I have found that will play songs on loop and has all the species one would want. ### 1/5 — Very disappointed *2017-12-03, version 1.7* I’m so disappointed in this app. I previously used Bird Tunes and loved it!!! Since this app supposedly replaced Bird Tune’s, which is no longer supported by Apple, I purchased it. First of all, It is very slow to open. I sometimes have to click on it five or more times before it finally opens up. Then it is difficult to navigate to the bird you want. Also, It doesn’t offer a “favorites” feature like Bird Tunes so that you can make a list for a trip, etc. I feel like I just wasted my money on this app. It has been so frustrating to use that I find myself going to the Sibley’s or Merlin app to listen to bird calls rather than using Bird Song app. I WANT BIRD TUNES BACK!!!! **Developer response:** Dear User, an udate is on the way which makes Bird Songs USA & Canada much faster! I agree this was a very annoying bug. There are three different modes to select your bird: dropdown list sorted by family (usually prefered by professionals, A-Z view with search ability + the galery view which groups related and similar birds prefered by most birders. A "favourites feature" is on its way too! ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2017-11-12, version 1.7* I’ve downloaded the app twice now. The bird songs don’t play. I press play, the indicator moves like its playing, but I can’t hear any sound. Please fix. I’m using an iPhone 7+ iOS 11.1.1 ### 1/5 — No audio iPad iOS 11 *2017-11-01* I just purchased this app because Bird Tunes app doesn’t work in the latest iOS. (Thank’s Apple. Don’t care about backward compatibility?) This app is silent. I cannot get the audio to work. Any suggestions? **Developer response:** Thank you very much for the purchase of our app and for your message! Occasionally users experience problems with hearing sounds when using the Bird Song function. The good news is that these problems have never turned out to be due to the app itself. We use standard Apple approved code to play sounds and the app is thoroughly checked and tested by Apple to make sure sounds are working correctly on all devices and versions of iOS. If sounds are not being played from the app: - The first thing to check is the mute button. This could have accidentally been switched on. Please note that this will not mute all sounds, but will mute our app. So the first thing to check if sounds aren't being produced is the mute button setting. - The next thing to check is the volume setting. This can be found using the settings app on the home page of your device. - If the settings app volume is OK, next check the virtual volume setting. This is a little trickier to find. First click the home button twice. This will open up a small panel at the bottom of the screen. Now sweep from left to right in the bottom panel. This will show the music controls. Now sweep again to show the virtual volume control. I hope one of these tips can solve the problem. ### 1/5 — Does not work *2017-10-04, version 1.7* I purchased the App for my IPAD and when I initiated it the introduction screen shows but after several seconds it disappears. I went through Apple support and after some time decided to get a refund. **Developer response:** The app works very well on the iPad and has especially been designed for the iPad! A fawlty app would have otherwise never been approved by apple. However, the app might encounter problems with iPads older than ipad air models. I tried loading it on my iPad Pro!!! ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2017-12-31, version 1.7* Just downloaded the program to my iPad (newest version) Beautiful interface. Could not get get sounds to play. Turned off, started again and when I select a bird it crashes almost every time. The few times it does not crash, still do not get the songs. The sonogram plays through, just no sound. I loved Bird Tunes and if this would work as well, the program would be spectacular. I am using the latest version of IOS 12.2.1 and the latest version of the iPad. Any advice? I will download it for the third time. 12/31/17 update. Download for the third time. Ran without crashing. Excellent photos and excellent interface. However, still no sound. After rebooting the iPad, it crashes whenever I select a species. I am done wasting time on what has the potential of being one stunning program, if only it worked. Still don’t like the ‘hard number’ sightings but the rest is like BirdTunes in steroids. Did I say I love it?? Give me freedom of text in the sighting bar and I’m 100% going to recommend this to my classmates. Such a vast library. I’ve got my work cut out. Oh yea, I like it so much I bought Trees USA as well. I’m a dendro geek as well as an Orno geek and these fit nicely into my quiver. This is the app I have been waiting for replacing the app birdtunes! I have frequently used birdtunes in the field, an easy to use guide to quickly find and play different varieties of bird songs and calls without having to struggle to find the songs in hidden submenus. In my opinion this app is even better. I really like the simple way the app is structured, this app will become a constant companion in the field while out birding. 2 suggestions: favourite feature and last played section. Nice work and five stars! ### 4/5 — My Sound is Back *2019-10-24, version 1.8* I originally purchased this app for my second generation iPad Pro (12.9 in), and it performed beautifully. Then I upgraded to a newly released software version and totally lost the sound on the app. I was without sound for over a year. Recently, I upgraded to iOS 13.1.3, and discovered that the sound had returned and was once again working perfectly. I could not find another app to replace the song quality on this app, so I am quite pleased to find the app once again working properly. ### 4/5 — Very useful app *2018-07-07, version 1.8* The app is quite comprehensive and I use the songs “loop” feature when playing songs. I previously had the Birdtunes app and this is the best replacement I could find. I have been notified by the developers that the sorely needed “favorites” feature will be added, and I read that a “last used” feature will be added also. Then it will be a 5 STAR app!
