### 2/5 — Great concept, virtually non functional

*2026-07-17, version 0.0.1832*

Really hope this app improves, but the identification capabilities are pretty tragic, even with good photos

### 3/5 — Camera button needs to show up faster birds fly away🕊️🕊️😭

*2026-07-14, version 0.0.1831*

Cool concept but camera does not always identify the bird

### 4/5 — Great app

*2026-07-14, version 0.0.1831*

So much fun!!! Would love a feature where you can hear the sound the birds make to help identify the bird.

### 4/5 — Incorrect Species

*2026-07-08, version 0.0.1831*

I’ve noticed recently that some species (Such as Carrion Crow and Hooded Crow) are the same species in the app whereas on all other bird ID sites and apps they are listed as separate species. This is a problem cause it messes with peoples Birda Life List and Life List on other apps, making them different and could cause confusion

### 2/5 — Guys please

*2026-06-01, version 0.0.1825*

Your see all button doesn’t work, cant tell how rare my bird sighting is, doesn’t tell me anywhere after I posted it. Will change to 5 star obviously after the fix

### 3/5 — I like the idea, needs improvement.

*2026-05-30, version 0.0.1825*

I’ve been using the paid version of the app for about a month or two now, and in its current state I’m switching to Merlin.

1) the photo ID of the app is more often wrong than not. What made me decide to move away from
The app was realizing I use Google search to identify the birds than I do the app.

2) the UI interface is a bit clunky, not a deal breaker but can be frustrating when you’re sweaty, the middle of the woods trying to identify the same bird the photo ID got wrong 3 times in a row.

With that said, I understand the app is in its infancy and everything costs money. So I’m not recommending that you shouldn’t give the app a go or support the business, but for my personal use, its not worth it.

### 1/5 — If you want a Facebook-like birding experience…

*2026-05-25, version 0.0.1825*

Disappointed that you have to create an account and agree to a subscription to even SEE the app and what it may or may not do. If you want actual bird maps and tracking your list for free, use Merlin and eBird. If you’re looking to socialize, give away your location and personal information, and sort-of bird, then this app is for you.

### 1/5 — Misleading

*2026-05-23, version 0.0.1825*

You took money out my account before my free trial even ended before I had chance to decide if this was me! Steer clear! I

### 1/5 — 7 Day free trial

*2026-05-20, version 0.0.1824*

Wanted to try the app and was super excited about it, I’ll update my receive once I do. I just found it super dishonest that Birda offers a “7 Day free trial.” And immediately removes $20.56 from your account. Is this included towards my yearly if so the yearly isn’t $30 it’s $50? Since when is a “Free Trial.” Not free ? Questions that require answers.

### 5/5 — Sound ID

*2026-05-19*

Very fun app but sometimes the identification ai is not that good and when is sound id finally comming

**Developer response:** We're grateful for your feedback on the fun aspects of the app! We appreciate your thoughts on the identification AI and are committed to enhancing the overall experience for all users. Your insights are invaluable, and we hope you continue enjoying your birding adventures!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not too good

*2026-09-03, version 0.0.1840*

Photo recognition cannot distinguish between a squirrel and a bird 😒

### 1/5 — Great Idea, Broken App

*2026-08-31, version 0.0.1839*

This is a great idea for an app. It’s basically Pokémon Go, but for real life animals. They gameified bird watching and I’m totally here for it. Also, the community is pretty chill and super helpful.

The problem is that the app is buggy af and the AI identification almost never works. For some reason it flips the photos 90 degrees on their side, which makes it almost impossible for the app to identify what it’s looking at. It also does this weird thing where it kills the resolution of your photos, making them blurry and ugly.

Tons of potential, but it doesn’t do the one thing it’s supposed to do. It’s like a pizza delivery app with a cool community and good features, but you can’t order pizza.

### 1/5 — No Support

*2026-08-18, version 0.0.1836*

Worst app ever. All AI. Canceled, and they still took $60. Zero support, no way to get to a human. Wish I could leave 0 stars, they don’t even deserve 1.

### 1/5 — would give 0 if i could

*2026-08-13, version 0.0.1835*

tried the one week trial, knew the app wasn’t something i’d use. it’s no more helpful then ebird or merlin or free apps out there. i tried cancelling the app via the instructions and it said no active subscription in my apple account to cancel so must not exist but was automatically charged 35$ for the year fee. they don’t explain you need to go through paddle (the app that collects payment for them) to cancel this- nowhere in their website or instructions is this explained. so confusing and a total rip off

### 1/5 — Takes your info before telling you how much it costs

*2026-06-23, version 0.0.1829*

Also it's an annual charge so be prepared to pay for a whole year at once before getting to try it.

### 1/5 — What am I missing?

*2026-06-14, version 0.0.1828*

I tried to log my first bird, a mountain chickadee, and it identified it as a crow at first. Also I find it confusing that you give what % likely it is. It only gave me 12% likely for a second photo I took but other apps just accurately identified the bird.

### 1/5 — Not Free Don’t Be Fooled

*2026-06-11, version 0.0.1827*

I downloaded the app for free, but unfortunately I deleted it with 20 seconds because it charges to use the app. No thanks, there’s plenty of these out there that are actually free lmao

### 1/5 — Not my thing

*2026-06-05, version 0.0.1826*

Beware! It’s essentially a knockoff of a seriously scientific app that is available at no cost. This app will take and take your money and so far despite several attempts, I’m finding it impossible to cancel.

### 1/5 — Can’t identify pictures

*2026-05-30, version 0.0.1825*

Have to have location on, and there’s no option to identify a bird that isn’t at my physical location.

### 1/5 — Stuck in challenge screen

*2026-05-28, version 0.0.1825*

This app is buggy. Doesn’t do anything but offer the challenge.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Birds woo

### 5/5 — 1st Sighting Crimson Rosella’s

*2026-07-04, version 0.0.1831*

Love this app, great resource and easy to use.

### 5/5 — Earth birds

*2026-06-30, version 0.0.1830*

Good job

### 5/5 — pictures become blurry

*2026-06-14, version 0.0.1828*

i love the app and the concept, bird watching is one of my top hobbies. unfortunately when i use the AI identification camera it lowers the quality of the pictures i take to such a degree the AI can’t identify a bird from a previously crystal clear picture. hoping this gets fixed cause i can see myself using this app regularly and trying to “collect” all the birds around my area :)

### 5/5 — Phenomenal

*2026-06-13, version 0.0.1828*

Phenomenal bird app

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-06-12, version 0.0.1828*

Amazing app for community birding, sharing photos, and logging birds into the app. Awesome app overall, and I have a few suggestions for it. First, when I upload my eBird data to Birda, It doesn’t give me any badges for all the birds I’ve found. If you can also link that to the images I uploaded to eBird that would be great too.

### 5/5 — Fun

*2026-06-10, version 0.0.1827*

I love birds

### 5/5 — ID & Log & Community

*2026-05-31, version 0.0.1825*

I appreciate this offers the best of all the worlds! IDing, logging and community to share.
Also location pins, challenges, etc. really fun thank you!

### 5/5 — Great!

*2026-05-30, version 0.0.1825*

Birda turned out to be one of the most enjoyable apps I’ve downloaded recently. It made me pay more attention to nature and actually made walks outside more interesting. 😊
Overall, it’s a relaxing and genuinely well-made app that makes birdwatching feel fun and accessible.
