It has to be manually set again on each edit. This needs fixing! ### 5/5 — Super fun birding app with promising potential *2026-06-09* I’d recommend this app to any UK birders - often described as “like Pokémon for birds”, your logged sightings unlock and level up cards, which you can evolve, apply cosmetics to, and generally show off to your friends in the app. You can also compete with friends in weekly scoreboards and daily quests and challenges. There’s a daily quest, daily bird ID quiz, and weekly bingo card. It’s super fun to use. It has potential to be even more fun, with concepts like battling friends with your cards (like Pokemon), having a map that shows all your sightings (as sighting can be labelled with coordinates), and much more. However, it uses AI and they’re not upfront about it. App description says “stunning original artwork” however it’s AI, I only found out on Reddit and it was only in response to certain comments. It’s very ironic for an app about getting out and taking an interest in nature to use something so damaging to the environment. I firmly believe that you not being able to afford to pay real artists for their time and work doesn’t mean you can just go and steal it instead. Very disappointed, I have uninstalled and will stick to Merlin ID. **Developer response:** Thank you for sharing this. We understand your frustration. We did use AI artwork at launch due to having no funding, but it was never our intention to mislead anyone. We’re sorry if the description felt unclear. We’re now actively commissioning independent artists to replace the artwork and updating our store wording to be more transparent. Doesn’t actually identify any birds. ### 1/5 — No google sign in for IOS *2026-02-14, version 1.8* I was dissatisfied as soon as I downloaded this app because it only offers an apple sign in for iOS and my apple account expired a while back, could you please add a google sign in for iOS because this app looks really good. ### 2/5 — Average *2026-04-02, version 3.0* Apart from recording species seen it achieves nothing ### 2/5 — Not great for twitchers *2026-02-19* This is ok but I think it’s a bit lazy and hasn’t been made with much passion. The artwork is especially lazy and I don’t like the gamification elements. I want something to track my birdwatching with cool card artwork! Wish it was about collecting cards without the push to engage everyday, collect seeds etc Maybe better for newbies or the younger crowd but give me eBird instead everyday. **Developer response:** Thanks for the honest feedback. It’s intentionally designed to be more playful and gamified, which won’t suit everyone, especially those who prefer a pure logging tool like eBird. That’s completely fair. Not only has it gotten me outside more and motivated me to do more birdwatching and birding but has as a result greatly increased my physical health. The community and the developers who have devoted their time to perfecting this app and making time for the community they have built are wonderful people and at a moments notice are willing to help and even have the occasional birding relayed chinwag with the discord community. The app as a whole is polished and optimised perfectly and the progression itself moves at a wonderful pace assuming you birdwatch somewhat regularly. I simply could not recommend the app enough.
