## What is Birdey?

Birdey turns learning real birds into a game you'll actually want to play.

Every card in Birdey is a real species, beautifully illustrated, with rarity taken straight from the IUCN Red List. Garden favourites are common cards. A Critically Endangered bird is genuinely rare to hatch, because it is genuinely rare.

PLAY AND LEARN
Play short identification rounds and earn new birds for your collection. Old Finch, your in-game teacher, describes every species like an old birder would, in 13 languages, with field marks that teach you what to look for. You get sharper every session, without it ever feeling like homework.

COLLECT AND HATCH
Grow your Birdex across 400+ species and 7 habitats, from forest and wetlands to mountain and desert. Hatch eggs to add new birds to your flock, melt spare cards into feathers, and buy the exact bird you are missing. Rare mutations keep the hunt going.

COMPETE, GENTLY
Weekly leagues, a monthly Top 50, daily quests and streaks, Rare Bird Alerts, and World First crowns for the first player ever to spot a card. Birdey is competitive if you want it to be, and completely calm if you don't.

MORE THAN A GAME
Birdey donates to World Land Trust's Buy an Acre programme, which buys threatened land outright and turns it into permanently protected nature reserves. Every subscription protects 10 m2 of real habitat, and your own protected square metres grow on your profile.

- Hundreds of hand-finished bird cards, every one a real species
- Real IUCN rarity, from Least Concern all the way to Extinct
- Bird identification you actually learn, at your own pace
- Eggs, nests, feathers, mutations, leagues and world firsts
- Fully playable free; made by a solo developer who loves birds
- Every subscription protects real habitat

Spot them. Learn them. Protect them.

### 5/5 — Bravo

*2026-09-02*

Super app pour apprendre à connaître et reconnaître les oiseaux

### 5/5 — Best App So Far

*2026-08-23*

This is one of the most fun/educational apps I’ve encountered so far. I’ve learned so many birds already!

### 1/5 — LEAGUE BOTS SCUMMY AS HELL

*2026-08-20*

I was really enjoying this game until I realized I’m competing against bots in the leagues.

I’m only on bronze but if I grind to get points and leave for an hour, “someone” who was 6,000 points behind me has already passed me, and their points only ever go up after I’ve actively been playing and earning points.

However if I am not active their points don’t go up. It’s just a scheme to get you to play for as long as possible thinking you’ll get a reward when in reality the bots points automatically stack up after you close the game so they can pass you. WTF.

I’m putting in all this effort to defeat a bot that can automatically generate points all for what? ONLY 15 EGGS? And I won’t even get them!

**Developer response:** I can assure you there is 0 bots in the game o_O what you experience is that it only update other players points every 15 mins. There is 0 bots in the game and i wouldnt even know how to code that :S the reason it dont update live but only every 15 min is to save cost on server, but i will look into if i can make it more live somehow so you wont end up with this feeling :S
Im sorry for the inconvenience :S

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.17 — 2026-09-08

Friends can trade cards now: one spare for one spare of the same rarity, three a day, with a counter-offer. Every spare on both sides is on the table, and the cards your friend is missing come first.

Every card shows the bird's wingspan, its sex and a crown with the name of whoever spotted it first.

Feeders count fills instead of clocks, so bonus eggs bank until you use them and one tap claims the whole day.

Every round now carries a pop quiz, from the bird you have gone longest without beating. Typed cards cap at two a round, the song quiz has a skip button, and song quizzes can be switched off entirely in Settings.

Nail a whole round for a small chance of a jackpot in the reward nest.

Plus easy practice back to mostly normal cards, bonus egg numbers that match everywhere, and many more bug fixes.

### 1.2.15 — 2026-09-02

Every bird now has a medal bar you can watch fill while you play, and the pop quiz can ask you to pick the bird's voice out of four songs. Birdey+ members get their streak milestones paid in eggs, a shield that covers one missed day a week, and 5x eggs on daily quests. Plus bulk hatching that stops for the birds worth seeing, your name on a World First card instantly, and a pile of fixes

### 1.2.14 — 2026-08-28

Old Finch now speaks your language: all 436 bird descriptions retold in 13 languages, with a read-aloud button. A new Field marks tab teaches you how to know each species in the field. Invite rewards now climb to 50 friends, a friend going Birdey+ pays you 100 eggs, and one tap buys all the eggs your feathers cover. Plus: spot a bad translation anywhere in the app and fix it yourself.

### 1.2.13 — 2026-08-22

World First is now automatic: the first birder to spot a new species gets their name on the card instantly, and a daily popup celebrates the newest discoveries.

Seed packs carry a daily star bonus: your first contribution of each kind pays eggs on the spot.

Members can follow their egg ladder on the membership card.

New audio engine, faster startup, and the app cleans up storage it was wasting.

The hatch ceremony now speaks every language, and country search works in yours.

### 1.2.12 — 2026-08-21

Bird names now show up properly in Italian, Chinese and Portuguese. Thousands of species that used to fall back to English finally have their real names.
Members earn eggs along the way: 100 when your free trial starts, 300 on your first payment, 1,000 on your first renewal, and 1,500 straight away on a yearly plan.
Type-the-name rounds now give you the same field notes as multiple choice: the range map and the bird's song.
New birds from the feeder are announced in your own language instead of English.
Filter menus line up neatly on the right again, and the Filters button in Birdex keeps its full size once your feather balance passes 1,000.
Minor Bug fixes.
