## What is BirdLens?

You spot a bird in the hedge — then it's gone before you can name it. BirdLens solves the moment: photograph any bird, get the species in seconds, and build a life list from every sighting. Can't get a clear look? Record its song — BirdLens identifies birds by their calls too.

WHY BIRDERS USE BIRDLENS

Name the bird in front of you.
Snap a photo or pick one from your library, and BirdLens reads the field marks — shape, size, color, and pattern — to suggest the most likely species, with a confidence indicator. Identification is a best-effort starting point, not a final verdict: confirm look-alikes (a Downy versus a Hairy, a silent fall flycatcher) the way real birders do, by weighing range, season, and habitat.

A real field guide for every find.
Each match opens a full profile: appearance, habitat, range, behavior, diet, activity, size, and lifespan, plus "Did you know" facts that make the bird stick in memory. Learn why a Blue Jay's feather isn't actually blue, how a hummingbird hovers, or why a songbird's dialect changes valley to valley.

Know when to keep your distance.
Every profile carries a clear status flag — generally low risk, keep your distance, potentially dangerous, or may be protected — so you bird responsibly. Flags are informational guidance for ethical birding, not legal or safety advice.

Build a life list that's truly yours.
Every bird you identify is saved to My Birds on your device. Watch your list grow, see how many bird families you've recorded, and turn a season of walks into a searchable archive of sightings you can revisit any time.

Learn the craft, for free.
BirdLens ships with in-app birding guides anyone can read without subscribing: the field ethics that put the bird's welfare first, how to read plumage color, how experienced birders document and defend a sighting, how to catch escapes and hybrids that fool a list, and the history and science behind flight, feathers, and song.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Capture or pick a photo of a bird.
2. BirdLens suggests the likely species with a confidence indicator — confirm it or adjust by hand.
3. Open the field guide to learn its habitat, behavior, and key facts.
4. Save it to My Birds and keep growing your life list.

PRIVACY YOU CAN UNDERSTAND
Your sightings, life list, and preferences are stored on your device. There are no accounts and no third-party trackers or advertising SDKs. When online recognition is enabled, the photo you scan is sent securely to our recognition service to look up the bird; it is not retained after processing and is never used for advertising or tracking. See the in-app Privacy Policy for full details.

MEMBERSHIP
A BirdLens membership unlocks unlimited identifications, the full species field guide (habitat, behavior, range, and facts), responsible-birding status flags on every find, and an unlimited life list.
