### 4/5 — Sync?

*2024-09-18, version 1.2*

I can't get the app to sync between my iphone and ipad. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Also, Trackside Tony, last April, asked that when entering photos, the app could return us to the last photo used instead of back to the beginning of the photos. This would be so helpful. I'm surprised you haven't taken this on board.
Otherwise, I'm enjoying this app. It has a few glitches, but you seem to be ironing them out. Thanks!

### 4/5 — Modern app for birdwatching in Australia

*2024-08-01, version 1.2*

This is a great app for birdwatchers of all types. The illustrations and annotations are detailed well. The drill-down approach is useful for browsing similar species. Opportunities for improvement include providing links to information contained in HANZAB, being able to organise the view by the likely species in your current location, and general usability. The app will be useful in conjunction with others including PK Birds and AusBirds (both of which are older style apps more reminiscent of their field guides), and Merlin and eBird. Overall, a good addition to the birding app landscape.

### 4/5 — Finally

*2024-07-31, version 1.2*

Finally an Australian Bird App

Accuracy is wonderful
Well worth the annual subscription

### 4/5 — Exciting bird ID experience

*2024-07-09, version 1.2*

Unique bird ID app with some huge potential. I especially like the 3D view and augmented reality features as this is a great way for users to get a better understanding of the birds size and physical attributes. I’ve found it to be a little glitchy at times, but no doubt these issues will be addressed over time.

### 4/5 — Helping our family

*2024-04-19, version 1.2*

My son has ahead been interested in birds. This app not only helps us identify the birds, but provides educational information about them as well. We look forward to delving into it more.

### 4/5 — Accessing Pictures

*2024-04-19, version 1.2*

Clearly my earlier comment has not been taken up unfortunately. If not that suggestion I will try this one. It would be really really helpful if after identifying a bird from your photos app on an iPhone, and you wanted to id another, it would be helpful if it went back to the last location. I have my birds in an album so it would be great if it went back to the album and better still to the last viewed.
Thanks in anticipation.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-02-15, version 1.2*

You can’t find a more informative bird app for native Australian birds ❤️

### 5/5 — Great resource for Beginner and Experts

*2024-02-10, version 1.2*

After years of lugging bird ID books with me and/or trying to (badly) identify birds from memory or photos hours after having seen them, I finally decided to get an app. Birdly has been a game changer. I can identify birds on the spot, I can ask the app to help me identify birds by just pointing the camera at them, or by simply recording their songs. I can keep my lists on it. This app has added a new level of fun and opportunity to learn about birds. So I am really loving it😊.

If there was one suggestion for improvement, (or perhaps I have not figured out how to do it yet), is to have a function that allows one to manually put in the address/location. The automatic Google Earth believes that I am living next door.

### 4/5 — Great App

*2024-01-22, version 1.2*

Look forward to more bird songs. Overal better than a great start but don't stop improving.

### 3/5 — Unpaid version isn’t very useful

*2024-01-11, version 1.2*

Using the unpaid version does not provide you with many features.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2023-12-11, version 1.1*

To a new birder enthusiast like myself this app is the perfect balance between accessible and clearly presented bird information and photos. The bird identifying algorithm is useful and I’ve been pleasantly surprised how accurate the photo and song ID software is! Definitely looking forward to using it some more. After downloading a few different bird IDing apps I find myself using this one most frequently. All in all I think it’s a well rounded birding app. Would recommend to Australian birders.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Nothing but noisy miners.

*2026-04-04, version 2.2.0*

Apparently the only bird in my area is a noisy miner. It’s a running joke now in our family when I record a bird. Magpies are now miners, cockatoos are miners. So disappointed in this app. Do better.

### 1/5 — Worst app ever

*2026-03-03, version 2.2.0*

Always makes my storage line move from 67 to 70 my message to anyone don’t download it,

### 1/5 — What are you all lying for?

*2025-03-22, version 2.1.0*

You can’t actually do any of the advertised things like automatic photo identification, sound identification etc without PAYING a subscription.
To use the app you have to pay. Either use ai yourself or stick to the books because people are too greedy to make something mediocre free.

### 1/5 — Not good

*2024-03-17, version 1.2*

Downloaded the app twice. Free trial option doesn’t work. Purchase of other features not available. Just a bunch of pictures with names. I have plenty of good books that are better. Please explain?

### 1/5 — Expensive, better options available

*2024-01-31, version 1.2*

I downloaded this app and was disappointed. I have used Cornell's (FREE) Merlin Global BirdID App a lot, and this one is a very poor imitation. Not to mention the annual subscription is expensive.

I do not understand why BirdLife Australia (a conservation organisation) would be spending hard-earned money which is supposed to be used for bird and landscape protection on remaking an app which already exists in a hugely better format for the whole world? Merlin has access to the Macaulay Library with millions of data points for photos and audio, it is useless to compete and waste money on such a frivolous app.

### 1/5 — A long time to download this app

*2023-12-30, version 1.1*

Frustrated at how long app takes to download to my iPhone.

### 1/5 — subscription cost hidden

*2023-11-17, version 1.0*

I downloaded the App, but after scrolling through the intro screens, could not find out how much the ongoing subscription cost was, and the only option was to accept a 7 day trial. I only wanted to access the free component to assess the App, but not given that option. Deleted the App without trialling.

### 2/5 — Sound is inaccurate

*2025-02-27, version 2.0.1*

the bird sounds recorder is hopeless! keeps saying that it’s a minor, when I’m staring at the bird and can see it’s a crimson Rosella - using it on the edge of the Wimmera in Victoria surrounded by magpies corellas parrots

### 2/5 — Refund

*2024-08-22, version 1.2*

I am not that tech savvy so find this app very hard to navigate and use by the time I have figured it out the bird is gone and as far as saving information until I have service well it doesn’t happen. Can I please have a refund. I am sure if I was smart enough this app would be very good.

### 3/5 — Free trial but with all the features

*2024-06-30, version 1.2*

Downloaded app as it offered 7 day Free Trial, but cannot test all the features like Bird Sound library which is locked. So unable to fully assess this app before paying for it. If it’s time limited trial then why is it still locked.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Birdly is totally great

*2025-12-18, version 2.2.0*

I would recommend getting the full version - it’s really good value and you get all the features. Just a reminder. playing bird songs to attract birds is not recommended as it can disrupt natural behaviours.

### 5/5 — Best bird id

*2025-11-04, version 2.1.0*

The subscriptions are incredibly cheap 4$ a month for the entire package and 3$ a year for smaller features

### 5/5 — Birdly

*2024-10-17, version 2.0*

This is a great app that I live to use when I’m stuck

### 5/5 — Brand new update

*2024-10-03, version 2.0*

Loving the update! It’s more a “brand new app” than an “update”.
Great job on the filters, the comparisons, and the single bird view enhancements!

### 5/5 — The future

*2024-09-05, version 1.2*

The ID feature from sound or image is pretty amazing.

### 5/5 — Birdly

*2024-08-29*

I really love this app because it has so many ways of finding out how to find a specific bird

### 5/5 — Go to app for Birding in OZ

*2024-07-17*

My go to app for birding in OZ, comprehensive and easy to navigate

### 5/5 — Review for twitchers

*2024-06-28, version 1.2*

The works quickly, features are eayy to use, and a strike rate with recordings

### 5/5 — The best there is

*2024-03-19, version 1.2*

This is a brilliant birding app and has a ton of excellent features. Most certainly a must-have app

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2024-02-23, version 1.2*

What a wonderfully handy little app!
