Add a note to any bird on your list, typed or dictated, and choose whether the original transcript rides along with it. Faster typed corrections. Start typing a species name and BirdScribe suggests matches from the eBird checklist, so every name you pick imports cleanly. Better species matching. Improved handling of similar-sounding names and cockatoo groups, with birds unusual for your area clearly marked rather than hidden from you. Saved locations. Save the spots you bird regularly and reuse them on future trips. Various fixes and refinements throughout. ### 2.0 — 2026-07-14 A ground-up redesign built for the field. New look: a light, high-contrast interface that stays readable in bright sun. Bigger species names, clearer counts, and compact cards that fit more of your session on screen. Bird call identification. Capture a call by tapping the sound bite button or saying "sound bite", and BirdScribe suggests the species with a confidence score. The species appears on the card and you confirm it with a single tap. Works hands-free in Pocket Mode, and your recordings are always saved even if analysis is briefly offline. Better checklists. Merge duplicate sightings before export, keep every recording on a merged card with its own ID, and see at a glance which observations will and will not reach your eBird checklist. Smarter sessions. BirdScribe now asks before continuing a trip from another day or another site, so one checklist stays one date and one place. Also improved: larger controls for one-handed field use, clearer permission requests, export confirmations, and undo when you remove a clip. ### 1.4 — 2026-07-09 Bird song capture Say "sound bite" while recording and BirdScribe starts capturing the bird instead of your voice. Tap to stop, say "all done", or leave it and it closes itself at 45 seconds. Already know the bird? Say its name straight after the trigger: "sound bite, rufous fantail". That saves the recording and logs a heard only observation, ready for eBird. Your recordings Song captures are saved to your phone as lossless audio and listed under the music note in the Trips header. They stay on the device, they are never uploaded, and deleting a trip does not delete them. Find them in the Files app under On My iPhone, BirdScribe, recordings. Build your own reference library and learn the calls of the birds you actually see. Also in this release Heard only observations now honour a stated count. Three kookaburras calling exports as three.
