### 4/5 — Would love support for monarch butterflies

*2023-07-31*

Good app for collecting bird data. Would love to see more species added for citizen science assistance

### 4/5 — Massive improvement

*2022-08-30, version 4.0.3*

I read about the upgrade and downloaded as soon as possible. Great interface, intuitive and clear. I will now be using this in preference to eBird, which I never felt comfortable doing given its American roots!!

### 5/5 — A vast improvement

*2022-08-30, version 4.0.3*

Finally. A vast improvement. The look is better. You can now quickly add species and all lists are seeable soo you can easily see how you have been doing. Also you can now add other non bird species.
Keep up the good work.

### 4/5 — Like the new app but...

*2022-08-30, version 4.0.3*

The latest update is an improvement and looks good! Please could it be possible to have a box for OS grid squares when pin pointing? That would be really helpful and is one reason I wasn't sending in records via the app

### 3/5 — Accessibility

*2022-08-27, version 3.2.8*

I have used BirdTrack for several years & keen to continue to share my records and explore trends. I now need reading glasses & am struggling to use the app in the field due to the tiny font. I‘ve tried the zoom on iPhone but doesn’t seem compatible. Please add accessibility options (at the very least choice of font size).

### 2/5 — Not intuitive

*2022-07-23, version 3.2.8*

Easy to add records, but they do not show in your summary until you close down and come back hours later. This should be better than this in 2022.

### 5/5 — Citizen Science at its best!!

*2021-12-31, version 3.2.8*

I have been using BirdTrack over many years now, as a BTO member & volunteer.

The App is simple to use, automatically detecting locations, which can be saved, and accessed from the desktop web version, to analyse, amend and/or download.

Input requires only a few characters to select the species, ie, Gull will list the gull species. Numbers seen can also be entered, together with c ~ circa or + ~ plus, suffix.

Additional info may also be added, breeding, behaviours, sexes, migration/flyover etc.

The best thing about this App is that it contributes to citizen science, helping to populate the BTO Bird Atlas, used consider environmental impacts of planning applications & and the data has also been used by prosecution in wildlife crime.

I cannot recommend this App strongly enough. It should be used by all birders; whether a seasoned ‘twitcher’, a generalist, or someone who only observes the birds in their own garden. This App is a must for All Birders, regardless of level. I wished I could have used this App earlier!!

Looking forward to the update that allows input of reptiles, amphibians & butterflies.

### 2/5 — Needs to be improved

*2020-09-22, version 3.2.7*

This is not an intuitive app. I tried to add one sighting while out for a walk, but ended up having to correct it when back home. You seem to need to name the place where you see birds, even though it knows your location. What is the point of that? Probably won't use this again.

### 3/5 — Clunky

*2020-07-12, version 3.2.7*

This is a good idea but doesn’t recognise other people that have the same name, no way to upload photos or to get recognise unusual bird sightings. On my sightings there are 3 sightings by other people in the area where I live but haven’t been there! There ought to be better ways verification of of people instead of giving I’d to people with similar names.

### 4/5 — Log in issue resolved

*2020-05-20, version 3.2.5*

With my log in issue resolved I can now use the app properly! Thanks.

### 3/5 — Register on website before using App

*2020-01-23, version 3.2.2*

It kept crashing when I tried to register via the app but works now that I registered an account on bto.org and used those details to login to the app.

### 2/5 — White walker

*2019-12-17, version 3.1.4*

Can't open it or it won't stay open long enough to do anything!! Back to the laptop, which means map refs for sightings are less accurate!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Dunno

*2023-01-07, version 4.1.0*

Couldn’t paste a username/password into the fields on ios or use a password manager so gave up

### 1/5 — Not great, and getting worse

*2022-04-12, version 3.2.8*

Original review: Nice app as far as it goes, but couple of drawbacks. Firstly,on the map view you have to scroll in to your location to see what records are in the area. Secondly, when creating a record you have to create a visit, and there seems to be no way to delete a visit if you make a mistake setting it up!
Edit: as of april 2022 I cannot longer log in via the app - I just get a server error. My account is still fine, I can log in on the web, I just can’t log in on the app. Rendering it utterly useless.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2021-10-01, version 3.2.8*

Awful. Not intuitive I can’t see how to add a location to a record nor how to submit it. Please see irecord they have it spot on.

### 1/5 — Hopeless

*2020-04-25, version 3.2.5*

No way to retrieve a lost password
No link to any sensible map
Nice idea badly executed sorry

### 1/5 — Used to be good

*2020-03-27, version 3.2.2*

Now I find using Birdtrack after 8 years a real pain the last two updates for IOS have completely ruined what I would call a great App please fix this soon or I and many others will be looking for an alternative means of storing our bird records .

### 1/5 — Please sort this app

*2020-01-18, version 3.2.2*

I’m a keen ornithologist and would love to use this app but every time (5 times now) I’ve tried to register the app has crashed

### 1/5 — Crashed and deleted

*2019-12-12, version 3.1.4*

I installed this app which worked initially but now I can’t log in with my username and password. I am able to login to the web based application. I did communicate with support who tried various fixes but still doesn’t work so I have deleted it.

### 1/5 — Can’t create account!

*2019-12-03, version 3.1.4*

Like many other reviewers, I never got to find out if this was any good, because it repeatedly crashed whenever I tried to create an account.

### 1/5 — Very poor

*2019-09-30, version 3.1.4*

Trying to register and the app continually crashes. Decided to delete please sort the problems out ASAP

### 1/5 — BirdTrack crash

*2019-07-31, version 3.1.4*

BirdTrack was recommended by a birder friend but it’s impossible to register using the app. Every time I tried, it crashed. BTO, you need to sort this!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great App

*2025-03-02, version 4.3.6*

This is a really simple app to use. Very intuitive and very reliable. Ignore the negative reviews - most are years ago. I use this almost daily without any problem. Sometimes you have to create a new location name but it always identifies your location by grid reference, which is really the most useful location information for BTO. You do need to register with BTO and I think this is best done via the web site at home.

### 5/5 — Really good app

*2024-11-18, version 4.3.4*

Love the simple layout so it's easy to use. Perfect!

### 5/5 — Brilliant design

*2024-02-13, version 4.3.0*

This is a fantastic platform to keep a track of your bird sightings and develop a comprehensive year list. Not to mention the added contribution towards ornithological research.

The new feature from the latest update of displaying on the map where about you saw each individual species is a nice addition.

Only thing I would like to see is perhaps a push notification ‘option’ for those rare/scarce birds that are recorded within a defined radius of your choosing. This could be real time, or perhaps a daily round-up.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2022-11-20, version 4.0.4*

I have loved using this app for years and am delighted to find that the new version is even better. Took a bit of getting used to but now my fingers have learned where to go it is great. I use it for my WeBS count too. Very flexible set up. Make sure you look at all the options in settings. I am using the app to learn the 2-letter species codes which appear under the full name of the bird. Makes data entry very quick. Takes no time to upload the data to the website and I frequently use the BirdTrack searches to explore the data. A fantastic resource. A big thank you to BTO.

### 5/5 — Top Bird App.

*2022-11-14, version 4.0.4*

Brilliant, especially when working your patch. You can pre-load species and delete when not observed.

### 5/5 — Much improved

*2022-11-12, version 4.0.4*

The BirdTrack app has been improved and updated, and is now much more user friendly and usable! I’m happy using it in the field more now and it has the other taxa that I record available, so that I don’t need to use other websites!

### 5/5 — Really handy way to record sightings

*2022-11-11, version 4.0.4*

The latest update is a great advance on the original version. It’s lovely to be able to record mammals and other taxa as well as birds

### 5/5 — Brilliant app; small issue

*2022-10-10, version 4.0.3*

Excellent update to an already good app.

There seems to be a small problem with the app in that when adding additional info to a list, such as whether it was Complete or Casual, or that additional non-bird species were a complete list, there is no way of saving that info - the list reverts to casual and any comments are lost. I then have to go into my records on the website and amend them from there. I hope this helps!

### 5/5 — Andy CLEMENTS

*2022-09-04, version 4.0.3*

I have been using BirdTrack since it’s inception more than a decade ago and have 150,000 records from my all time birding activity over the last 50 years. This new App is a massive step up in useability, visual appearance and with loads of new features. An absolute must have App for birders wishing to make their observations available for conservation. Easy fir the beginner, and fun for all including the most serious and committed birder. 5 stars

### 5/5 — Such a useful app for birding

*2022-09-01, version 4.0.3*

I love the new interface, it Is such an improvement on the old version.

It is much easier to use and great to be able to quickly add one off bird or at the wildlife records.
