In the free version, you have to find people to like in the public chat rooms, and hope that they like you back, then you can chat with them privately. In recent months, my private chats are not loading. When tapping on someone’s profile, it doesn’t have a back button to go back. Every so often, the app deletes all the public chat rooms and starts them fresh. But i haven’t seen the new ones come up yet. It seems like the developers have given up on the app. Boo is a better personality match app. ### 2/5 — Buggy *2023-08-12* It crashes sometimes, sometimes it says there’s no connection, and… it’s too expensive for an app that doesn’t have the best of reviews. I must say, though, that I’ve made some few friends through the app, but it’s still lacking many things. Consider conducting UX research and listen to your users to improve the app. The app gives me the feeling that something is missing. I open it and I don’t last 5 min when I already closed the app. Is a subscription worth it to me? Not really. Either way, I’m thankful for the friends I’ve made through this app. ### 2/5 — Good Concept *2022-12-31, version 2.7.5* It’s an interesting concept but the people on this app are strange. I’ll say what I’m looking for on my profile (a relationship) and I’ll get people messaging me saying they want to be friends or are married and it’s kinda weird and uncomfortable. A lot of people post their pics on their profile for everyone to see before they match despite that not seeing pics of each other first is a huge part of the app concept. Needs more work and probably user base moderation. I know it’s hard because the app currently has few users but I’m going to have to stop using the app till some of the issues are ironed out because being a gay man looking for a relationship getting matched with a straight man who is actively married is just a really depressing situation to be in and slowly discover while messaging someone you find attractive and funny and are excited you matched with just to slowly realize that. Thanks and best, Juliette (founder) ### 2/5 — So much potential but execution is poor *2022-05-11, version 2.7.2* I’m really exited for the profession of this app but there are some things that are off putting. 1. Interface seems a bit too cluttered and manageable, but not as easy on the eyes like other dating apps such as Hinge or Tinder. 2. You can’t even see the people who liked you unless you make a purchase which doesn’t really make any sense. Should at least be given a limit on how many people you can match again like Hinge or Tinder. There are some other things but those are the two main complaints I have ### 2/5 — Keeps crashing *2022-01-31, version 2.6.4* I haven’t been able to use the app in over a week because it crashes as soon as I try to open it. Ended up deleting the app off my phone. ### 2/5 — Wouldn’t recommend at this point in time *2021-11-01, version 2.6.1* In the beginning, this app held a lot of promise. But at this point in time, it doesn’t really seem worth the use. The location filtering still doesn’t completely work (still getting matches all over the country and in the neigbouring country), and the matching mechanic is locked behind a paywall. Maybe it needs more marketing done, I never get any matches from people near me, it’s pointless. I wish I could filter location, age and types. Also, it would be nice if you could contact the people you meet in the chat rooms for private conversations or be able to match with them. ### 3/5 — Has anyone gotten matches on this? *2021-01-11, version 2.3.16* I've been on this app for only a few weeks, so maybe I'm just being impatient. But even with it having people in my area, I've not had any conversations from this. I really wish I could look back and see peol stories that I've liked in the past. Also I wish I could see if those people have already looked at my stories and passed me by or something. It just seems like it's taking up room on my phone and not actually doing anything. ### 2/5 — Needs some work.... *2020-12-21, version 2.3.14* First off it’s a good idea, but as some one versed in the Myers Briggs I think the compatibility needs to be checked since my most compatible isn’t the personality I’m most compatible with, two there needs to be a way to put filters.....like I don’t really need or want a suggested match with someone 10 years younger than me or thousands of miles away ### 3/5 — Interesting concept *2020-12-15, version 2.3.13* Although I don't necessarily like the whole not showing your face deal... Yes, people should focus on personality but there are also physical traits that people look for. Being online and putting in the time to get to know someone is hard and realizing they aren't your type at the end can lead to some awkward moments...just a thought. Maybe have a profile picture of just a person's face at least? ### 3/5 — Still Working Out The Bugs *2020-12-08, version 2.3.13* I think this app has potential, but it only lets you look at ten people a day so it takes forever to match with anyone. I think there’s some logic in that because it makes it so you actually have to look at profiles on a deeper level. The forums are an absolute crack zone. There are way too many people and no one is on the same page. ### 3/5 — Interesting Idea *2020-12-08, version 2.3.13* I downloaded this app because it sounds really fascinating and I love the idea of sharing things I love for people to get to know me. However you can’t search geographically or provide any sort of age limits. I’m very much not a fan of that. I’m not exactly looking for a pen pal. ### 3/5 — Can’t Match Yet *2020-10-25, version 2.3.8* The app won’t let me post a selfie since I bypassed it earlier. But I did upload a photo of myself sooo not sure how or why this is working the way it is currently. Tech issues? Also: Please post an email address or tech help line or SOMETHING so you can keep receiving this feedback. So far I’ve only seen this kind of thing with Meeber and now Birdy I guess - I hope they get bigger and better!! Love the MBTI ### 2/5 — Can’t see other profiles.. uhh makes it kinda tough to meet people lol *2020-10-07, version 2.3.8* I loved the concept of this app and I thought it was really cute! However inorder to start seeing other profiles you are required to take a selfie.. kinda annoying you can’t just use a photo but fine. EXECPT for the fact that you cannot take one. It literally would not let me. So basically pointless. ### 2/5 — Concept great, crashes too much *2020-10-07, version 2.3.8* This app is something that very much fits my style and preference but I haven’t been able to get past “add a selfie”. It won’t let me upload a photo and nothing have progressed other than me making a profile. I’m eager for this one of a kind app but it’s unfortunately not working. ### 3/5 — Can’t Use - App Issues *2020-10-04, version 2.3.7* I was excited to try this app out, but it wont let me add a “selfie.” Says in order to use app I need one. When I click the plus on the circle to add a picture nothing happens. ### 3/5 — Downloaded and quickly deleted *2020-10-04, version 2.3.7* I get the intent is personality over looks, self acceptance, yada yada, but it’s really annoying that I can only take a selfie and not upload a preexisting one. So what if I want to upload a picture of me at dinner last night over a picture of me scrolling on my phone in my bed at 9 pm. The stories don’t make sense and are cumbersome... it would take me days to take pictures and videos of all of my hobbies and interests... I’d rather just tell someone what my hobbies and interest are. I was excited for this app and the MBTI aspect, but there should be more faith and trust in the users to value personality over looks than forcing people to jump through hoops just to start making matches. The story format and the templates are a bit basic to begin with. There is no filter for age, or location. Seems a bit too simplistic of a design. I hope there’s some improvements coming on the design and technical aspects of this app. Because at this point, since I can’t even see any stories, it’s pointless. ### 2/5 — Nothing so far :/ *2020-08-25, version 2.1.3* There is no location filter and all the profiles I were from out of state. I’m done with this for now... maybe I’ll try back in a couple months. It is one of the most limited dating apps I have ever used. And the currency cost on each profile is just wierd.... this is setting off my negative ISTJ traits! 😂 ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work. *2023-06-24* I can’t look at my suggested matches profiles because the app just closes itself. The chirping is obnoxious. If the app can’t run it’s useless, saw another user say some time ago it was crashing…still is. The suggestions are based off of a extremely limited profile that’s essentially MBTI stereotypes. Not worth the money they force you to pay to meet people. Thank your for wasting my time. Even had someone try to catfish…twice…on a personality type dating site. ### 1/5 — No One There and Can’t Delete Account *2022-06-21, version 2.7.3* There aren’t enough people on this app and it won’t let me delete my account. At the delete account screen, I hit delete account -other-screen freezes. Should I be shocked by this… ### 1/5 — Beware *2021-01-27, version 2.3.17* Every time I chose an answer in the personality test, the app accessed my Universal Clipboard. At the top of my phone screen Apple notified me “Birdie pasted from your MacBook Clipboard”. Which means without my permission the app is tracking things from my laptop’s clipboard. I WASN'T EVEN ON MY COMPUTER. This is the “handoff” feature & I strongly suggest you turn it off. ### 1/5 — Selfie? *2020-10-09, version 2.3.8* When I sit down after a day and relax is not the time I want to take a selfie. You MUST upload a selfie that you take that minute instead of just a picture you have of yourself. I get the trying to keep people honest or whatever but there is NOTHING practical about that. The other thing is their version of the Meyers Briggs year is WACK. Literally the first question asks if as a child you self-reflected OR sat bored at home. Those were the only two options which is ludicrous. ### 1/5 — Problems with app, no help from available *2020-10-09, version 2.3.8* Also had a problem with the add a selfie feature and there’s no way to ask for help or like an info button on the app or their website so I messaged their Instagram and they keep leaving me on read. Im embarrassed I spent even that amount of effort but its a cool concept. ### 1/5 — Poor type evaluation *2020-08-07, version 2.0.2* As a Myers Briggs enthusiast, I was excited about this app until I discovered that there are only 12 questions to type an individual. (Fine, maybe they are some magical questions I thought). I went along with it and the result was completely off of what my actual personality type is. (I know this from 10 billion other tests I took, and constantly watching Myers Briggs videos, reading articles, Reddit and Quora) I understand that maybe there’s fear of the onboarding being too cumbersome but I think if the app was created with the core value of connecting people to each other’s authentic types, then it’s extremely important to start with better personality questions, and increase the number to at least 25-30 to even type an individual. People that don’t know much about Myers Briggs will think that they are the type revealed after 12 questions and you will still have “incompatible” people meeting each other. My suggestion is to have people create accounts and answer 20-25 questions to type themselves, and after that have an option of “answer more questions” or “I am done”. Lucky are those who can just snap a selfie at any point, it takes me hours to take what feels like a good picture (body dysmorphia) and now I have to get full glammed and posed just for Birdy when I have a whole camera of my favorite pics I’ve already suffered for? So inconvenient!! ### 1/5 — App seems like a bored housewife pet project *2020-07-22, version 2.0.1* I had hopes for this app but have lost all interest. It has no geographical or age filters so you just get matches from people overseas. The app is clunky and lacks basic features and touts itself as a diff take on dating to match ppl based on more than looks but then forces you to post a selfie which is immediately revealed to anyone you match with. So it’s basically any other app, but with no filters. I’d say wait and try the app in a year if it’s still around. It really has a feel like the female behind it was bored and decided to make a dating app on a whim and it doesn’t do anything well that a dating app should do. I know people are suppose to just discover your stories but how? It also says I have “12” chats but I can’t open any of them, it just keeps asking me to upload a story when I’ve uploads several. ### 2/5 — Unable to open even after updating/reinstalling *2023-08-16* It’s a shame because I enjoyed using this app briefly for chat rooms. One day my friend and I encountered an error about “unable to connect” We both uninstalled, reinstalled, checked our phones were up to date, even tried to make another account since we had friends there we wanted to keep in contact by kept getting an empty red box during the sign up process? I’ve had this app for almost a week now and still figuring it out. It looks to cool and I love that you don’t know what the person likes until your a match. I also like that there are only 10 options in a cycle. It make you really consider whether or not you think you’d match with someone. The only thing I would like to see is more preferences. Especially in a area, even if it was just selecting a country or continent, I would prefer that. I also would like to regulate the age of my matches. I wouldn’t like to see people who are as old as my parents on my matches. Makes me feel like it’s more trustworthy. I hope they don’t expand that for uploading older pics. People can just take a pic of a pic if they’re hurtin so bad to show it off! I want to see the person now and how they manage to convey their personality with the tools given in the present. I love the meme options!! It’s nice to see how people will fill in the meme captions to suit their personalities. I’m new to the types but they’re pretty spot on as far as my type and the match I’d find ideal. I agree with the other reviews, the text editor is too limiting. It creates a required width for the paragraph that isn’t really optimal. I’d have to add another paragraph just to get another word into the line. Then again, if someone can’t figure out that workaround, I’m pretty excited to find those who can. The picture pulls when you’re using the scribble feature too close to the edges. Makes it hard to check things off on the bingo story template. And there’s no single undo. You either start completely over or you leave the error on the image and keep going. Looking forward to when this updates and launches. The personalization is a very interesting feature and matching by personality type is something I’m invested in seeing if that would work well. Keep up the good work! I like the whole idea of creating your profile with the things you like to do in your everyday life and not putting in your face so it’s based off of common interest. Since it’s still starting out I’m pretty happy with what they have going on atm. As for current improvements I would say maybe give us the option to see the personality traits/description of “your perfect match” to see what you should be expecting and looking for. I couldn’t continue because the buttons didn’t appear on my screen. Before getting to that part, the buttons were barely reachable because they appeared a the very bottom on my screen. Note for developers: I currently have a Iphone7 with a standard size screen(not the pro version). I believe this app isn’t designed for standard screens. Also, I think signing up should send a token to your email to verify it. There is location services, but so far it hasn’t made any difference. Currently, it’s only providing 10 options, only 1 of which was in the US, and on the literal opposite side 😂 2) What are the birdy seeds for? How do I use them? I’d love to use them to see more than 10 options 😅 3) Let’s do an option for if you’re seeking romance, are you open to friendship too? Because I’d turn that off 😂 2 of my 10 Birdy options weren’t even seeking romance, which defeats the point for me.. 4) I like how the stories are attempting to look like Snapchat! The text piece could really benefit from the tilt and resize customizing feature, along with different font options so we can really show off our personalities in these stories 🤩 5) do the 10 options refresh on a new day? How does that work?
