### 5/5 — One of the best games on iPhone

*2021-06-10, version 1.00*

I think I found this game by searching to see if a version of Zelda available. This is a pretty good action-adventure game that is at least good for one run-through, and probably many more.

### 5/5 — :'(

*2021-04-21, version 1.00*

99% cause I couldn't go back for the guy trapped in a cave after rescuing the king

### 5/5 — Similar to Wonder Boy & Monster Boy

*2021-03-30, version 1.00*

This game reminds me of the Wonder Boy and Monster Boy games. If you like puzzle-based action adventure platforming, then this might be something you'll like. Have a great day.

### 5/5 — Absolutely Fantastic game!!

*2020-07-19, version 1.00*

Always been a huge fan of Donut games since rat on a run came out, and every single game they have released since then I’ve always grabbed. But this game (Birk’s Adventure) is definitely one of the best they’ve made. It’s as good as “Traps”
Highly recommend, a real feel good game.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2020-04-25, version 1.00*

Great game! I wish there was more underwater stuff though!

### 5/5 — Top game

*2020-03-22*

love this game and have played it right through twice so far. please make more similar

### 5/5 — Good adventure

*2019-12-26, version 1.00*

Not beat it yet, but already impressed and really enjoying it. I wish there were more quality games like this. You can play at a slower pace and are free to explore. there are npcs to give hints or buy items. Nice setting and music.
Minor quibble: no controller support. Though the touch controls do work pretty darn well.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2019-12-14, version 1.00*

I was really impressed by this little game, it’s around 6 hours first play through. Simple controls and mechanics. It’s easier with a controller (I use rotor riot) but the touch screen controls were just fine for when I didn’t have access to that. Cute graphics too. Will happily play again.

### 5/5 — Birk's Adventure

*2019-12-13, version 1.00*

Yay!!!! Another Metroidvania title from Donut Games!!! However, this one seems quite a bit different than Traps N Gemstones.
The controls and physics/handling is spot on, as we've all come to expect from DG. The developers have also made it so that quickly tapping the jump button will let you micro-jump and holding down the jump button will allow you to jump higher, and it's been done PERFECTLY.
The game is fairly big (once you take into consideration all of the doors/'levels' you'll be making your way through). There's one large over-world type area that loops around (once you make it all the way to the right side of the map, you'll eventually wind up on the left side that's furthest away from your starting point) that contains a couple of castles and some underwater areas.
Throughout this large over-world, you'll be able to collect items, visit shops, upgrade your character and search for keys. These keys can be used to open the locked doors that you'll find scattered all over the place. Inside of each door is a smaller area (level) that you'll be able to explore and find even more items!
It's one great big exploration + platforming adventure! And yes, there's TONS of platforming to experience!
You're able to dispatch enemies by slashing them with your sword or - for most of them: the ones that don't have spikes or spiky helmets anyway - by jumping on them. They've also added the well-known boost that a lot of other platform games use where you can hold down the jump button while landing on an enemy and jump even higher than usual!
At the beginning of the game, it is one-hit=death, but it's fairly forgiving. You'll be tossed back to where you first entered the screen/segment (as the over-world and levels are all artificially broken up into different segments that you'll 'slide' into) and loose a few of your coins. But it's almost always no worse than loosing out on maybe 15-20 seconds of progress, AND, all of the items you grabbed and enemies you sent packing will reset as well, so you'll be able to grab that bomb you needed or use enemies to boost-jump and reach higher up areas again without any issue.

I'm not too far into the game yet (it keeps track of the percentage you've completed and right now I'm only at 27%, and that took me about 60 minutes, so a rough estimate from a 'typical' gamer would be about 4:30-5 hours of gameplay, so long as things don't get TOO difficult moving forward), but this is yet another HUGE winner from Donut Games! Actually, there's a pretty big chance that it'll end up in my top 5, if not 3, favorite games from DG! It's THAT good! So, if you're a platforming/Metroidvania/puzzle-platformer fanatic; don't skip out on this one!

### 5/5 — Definitely a must buy game

*2019-12-08, version 1.00*

Awesome rogue like game. Remind me of a rouge Zelda. You can tell hard work was put into the game. Very happy with purchase. Thanks to the Developers for this. Super fun game. I highly recommend anyone to buy it. If you haven’t better do it on sale to get it at a nice price. Even without a discount the game is worth a easy $7-$8. If you don’t own it in your game library on IOS you will definitely be happy. Thanks again to the developers.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Kein Metroid oder gutes Spiel

*2020-01-16, version 1.00*

### 2/5 — Okay so far

*2019-12-18, version 1.00*

It’s okay so far. It definitely needs a floating d pad for controls. Or allow us to move the buttons around. Buttons are too far apart on iPad and the map is too close to the ‘Move right’ button on iPhone 7.

Make those changes and I’ll play more. For now it’s shelved.

### 2/5 — Viel zu teuer

*2019-12-08, version 1.00*

Für einen Euro wäre es vielleicht ok aber so ...
Da kommt bei mir einfach keine Spielfreude auf

### 3/5 — Pretty Good

*2026-02-28, version 1.00*

I like the nonlinear exploration, the combat at least in the first half is pretty easy as long as you don’t get hit (if you get hit at all before you upgrade yourself you die instantly). Requiring consumables for exploration is annoying when everything resets but you don’t get the consumables back.

There is one nasty bug that’s caused me to die a couple times. I’m not sure what’s causing it, but occasionally when I’m jumping to the right I appear to hit an invisible wall, even though there’s nothing there. If I try to get past that point other times, it works. For example one time in the Flame’s room I jump between the platforms like normal but one random time I stop in midair and fall into lava. It’s very intermittent but can easily cause death so it’s pretty annoying. If they fix that I’d increase the rating.

### 3/5 — Great until...

*2019-12-16, version 1.00*

I was really enjoying this - nice and simple, but with some challenging areas. Then I died in-amongst a load of star blocks, which reset and became unresponsive, so I got stuck! There’s no way to go back to an earlier save, so that’s it for me :( I guess you can’t test every eventuality...

### 4/5 — Schön aber etwas monoton

*2022-11-03, version 1.00*

### 4/5 — Aaaw Man :(

*2020-04-05, version 1.00*

Love Donut Games! But I'm a bit frustrated here: just beat the game but didn't unlock 100%. There is no way to go back unless you reset all your progress :/ So don't use all the tablets until you have collected everything!

### 5/5 — Annual replay

*2026-04-10, version 1.00*

Elements of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mario Bros 2, and Super Metroid come together really well here. I replay this game every year at the beach.

### 5/5 — Amazing and easy to play !

*2025-08-02, version 1.00*

Best money you’ll ever spend on a game . It’s easy to play and takes a long time to finish . Literally one of the best games I’ve ever bought. To the developer , it’s a shame there’s not sequels .

### 5/5 — fun game

*2024-02-09, version 1.00*

worth the money, perfect for when you’re taking a dump or waiting in line for the doctor :)

## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Compact and interesting

*2023-05-03, version 1.00*

It is a small but great game. It is quite like Donut Games' another product, Traps n Gemstones.

Actually I got nostalgic when replaying T n G. So the first time I played Birk's Adventure, I was thinking "it is highly likely I am going to miss this moment".

Indeed, the game led me to endless aftertastes. The last key is so hard to find. I traced all possibilities until finding clues.

I love Donut Games. Thanks for launching games continuously.

### 5/5 — Fun afternoon game

*2023-05-01, version 1.00*

If you want to play something like treasure adventure world or side scrolling Zelda of sorts, look no further. I completed this game in 4 hours, had quite a fun time. An open world with some dungeons to explore. Boss fights are way too easy and predictable. But overall, an awesome game.

### 5/5 — great game very fun

*2023-04-13, version 1.00*

Fun platformer, lots to explore, made well, worth the money, responsive developers

### 5/5 — Donut Games and me

*2022-12-06, version 1.00*

Though I did not play this yet, I recently switched to an iPhone from droid. I always had ipads and iPod touches so having android for a phone was like having SNES and Genesis. Now that I got an iMac, I figured switch my phones would make everything easier in life when it comes to syncing up my devices and the first games I put on here was the whole donut collection. I got out of playing these games so I left off at game 34 Monkey ninja and I just bought/downloaded all the games after that and caught up. I have been on a rogue lite kick on the consoles so I’m very excited to play this. Donut games are always quality and their numbering gimmick was what first made me fall for them. I love that they did that and as a collector game 10 missing is killing me!!! I forgot what it was called but remember it was a farming game like, frannies farm or something. I never really played that one but because I wanted all my numbers in a row I bought it. What happened to that game?!? The mystery of the 10th donut game will become a thing of legend pppfffttt… but just wanted to put these devs over. I’ve seen them come and go from donut to chillingo, I miss doodle army. 2000 paid apps I had close to when iPod touch 2nd gen was out. Now, most of them games are either gone or not supported and won’t even run. Donut still stands strong. Top phone game makers imo. Quick hits and long play donut is king. Edit: GAH-LEE your games are traaaamendous. Just love everything about them from the first time u play and see the little tutorial feels, to the colors and memories of when Retina display first came out in gen 4 touch PLUS you guys never went freemium. The donut game whisper followed by the games theme noise and jingle. Love how you name all your levels creatively. That all doesn’t go un-noticed. Everything about your company is much appreciated from a 37 year old avid gamer that had his dads Atari stick in his hand before he got his own Nintendo…. Hey beavis you said his Atari stick

### 5/5 — A good adventure

*2022-05-27, version 1.00*

Works with controllers. Good metroidvania type game. Overall a fun game from start to finish.

### 5/5 — Spot on platformer

*2021-11-30, version 1.00*

Really enjoyed this game. Pixel perfect controls and plenty to do in this simple and elegant old style platformer.

Could do with a full screen map option (I had to take screenshots and zoom in!)

### 5/5 — Middle-aged man enjoys game

*2021-11-17*

Elements of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mario Bros 2, and Super Metroid come together really well here. Cheers!
