And this reminds me of that. I used it for portraits mainly, but sometimes I can use it for aesthetic or to play around when I’m bored. Only problem is that color cost money. And they don’t have a zoom feature also. And if they add zoom then PLEASE DON’T make it cost something, as it’s ridiculous, especially paying for color is ridiculous. But overall, great app! ### 3/5 — New update seemingly broke color mode in Photos edit widget *2025-10-12* After working great for many years and retroactively scanning photos I took with my SLR into 8-bit glory, the app kept asking me to install color graphics in the Photos edit mode. Color works fine when taking pictures still, just not for altering existing photos. I can still save black & white scans from the edit widget. **Developer response:** Thanks for reporting this bug, and sorry for the inconvenience! It should now be fixed in the 1.0.6 update. Maybe they’re trying to stay authentic to the simplicity of retro technology, but it’s frustrating that there are no other apps that achieve the same affect with imported images. **Developer response:** If you go into Photos and Edit the image, BitCam should be available in the ... menu. In the Photos app, select a photo and then Edit. In the ... menu, pick More and select BitCam in suggestions. Use Edit on that screen if you want to add BitCam to the editing choices permanently. De ahí en más, buena app! 👍 ### 5/5 — Simple Digital Nostalgia *2019-02-13* Superb little camera app that brings back the feeling of photos on a classic 16-bit Mac. Even the interface and sounds are fun and bring you back in time. For the people asking to be able to import photos, it actually includes a plugin for the Photos app so you can apply the dithering effects to your existing photos. Or just snap a picture directly within BitCam then save it to your camera roll using an effect. The app is very functional even without the color in-app purchase so give it a try! The $2.79 color option is well worth it in my opinion, I bought it to support the Iconfactory. ### 5/5 — *LOVE* this app, but it needs an update! *2018-12-04* The folks at Iconfactory are the best (if you’re a Mac-using artist or designer, you *must* check out XScope!). The BitCam app is a wonderful blast back to the old 2 bit Mac graphics. The app or “Application” or even “Program” as they used to be called is nostalgic, simple and just plain fun to use. The minimalism and simplicity is the beauty as it harkens back to the days of classic MacOS days and sub 1 megapixel cameras of yore. Следите за новостями! ### 5/5 — Perfect *2025-06-27* I don’t think I can put into words the little tickle in my heart I get when I see the color photos taken with this app. It’s not a filter. Characteristic of any Iconfactory app it is well-designed and well-executed. The theming is really fun. The only thing it’s missing which I’d like to see is the ability to adjust the brightness threshold (or the pre-dithering exposure level). Sometimes it would be nice to tweak the process a bit to make the image look better. p.s.
