I used the app often when I would think of bits to structure them, time them, etc and go to do open mics. But I had a year long stint of not using it and I just came back to the app and now there is a paywall up. The new editions including the open mics near me is nice and all but there is a lock over the add button and I can’t add new material. Idk if there’s a way to bypass this without doing the free trial but I don’t want to just use it for a month and then go back to not using it bc I’ll have to pay. I’m sorry but it was better when you had the freedom to add things without paying smh **Developer response:** Hey! I think the recent lock issue was a glitch in my configurations (sorry!), but it shouldn’t be there anymore. That said, it’s always recommended to have a subscription running to make sure your material is backed up properly. I like how it organizes everything as well. It would be great if I could sort or filter Bits by status ( i.e. show only drafts to work on) and to search for keywords when putting together a set. And I can’t get them back. Over a year and a half worth of writing. Gone. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — It Deletes Your Material *2025-07-30* Pretty terrible of the developers to have a limit where I can’t even change my own jokes without you guys deleting them because I don’t pay for a subscription. It’s not like that’s the only way you guys can monetize instead of an advertisement system that can avoid taking data from client side use. Or at least a service that doesn’t screw you by deleting your jokes if you don’t pay them. That’s called RANSOMWARE. Give me my jokes back. **Developer response:** I’m sorry, but what? 😳 The app clearly prompts you to create an account if you want to secure your material. Without an account, there’s no way to confirm the material belongs to you. Obviously. This happens daily once you’ve written enough content, and you have to specifically state “I’ll take the risk” if you choose not to subscribe. You can export your material at any time if you wish. Unfortunately, you chose to take that risk repeatedly and never exported anything. Your material wasn’t deleted - it was never secured in the first place, by your own choice. If you want to find a solution, please reach out through more effective forms of communication and I’ll see what can be done (as other reviews show). ### 1/5 — Writing a joke is now locked behind a paywall *2025-02-07, version 6.0.33* I’ve used this app for 2 years and went to write a new joke only for the button to be replaced with a lock icon. App is fine, but it ain’t worth 8 dollars a month. Used to recommend using this app to every new comic. I will now find an alternative. ### 1/5 — Does Not Sync *2025-01-31, version 6.0.32* Spent 2 hours making edits and this stupid app didn’t save anything. Synchronizing between desktop and mobile is a joke. Give me my $40 back. ### 1/5 — No longer free *2025-01-21, version 6.0.32* I used to love this app, it was a great way to organize jokes and such. Now I’ve found I can’t use it anymore since it is subscription based. ### 1/5 — Years worth of jokes gone *2024-12-12, version 6.0.28* I updated my app to not only find it’s subscription based now, but what’s worse is my entire year of joke writing is gone , you think the developers could give a chance for OG users to at least download their material. I used to love this app, so disappointing ### 1/5 — “In development- it’s not guaranteed to work, but they’re guaranteed to charge you. *2021-07-29, version 2.51* The primary purpose of this app is to store files in the cloud. The app deletes content that you’ve saved. If I hadn’t trusted this app, I wouldn’t have lost WEEKS of work because they didn’t bother to make auto-save functional. Apparently my fault for trusting them with my data. Don’t make the same mistake I did, and CERTAINLY don’t pay for it. ### 1/5 — Barely try it before it wants a membership. *2021-01-18, version 2.51* Not sure how I feel about it yet but since it allows you to write one whole thing before it hits you up for a $1.99, I’m going to place a hold on my opinion with one star until I get a better idea. ### 2/5 — Great idea, super glitchy *2023-08-08, version 4.5.8* Perfectly designed app for its intended purpose, but I often find that a joke is not saved or bits are randomly dropped from a new set ### 2/5 — Horrible formatting *2023-03-23, version 5.2.0* Considering your supposed to type a lot The formatting jumps all over the page if you do more than about 5 lines of text Needs autocorrect word spelling etc and the clock noise is awful ### 3/5 — Nice app but glitchy *2024-02-06* The app randomly changes my writing streak. It went from 100 to 85 to 57 even though I was writing every day. After writing for the day it went even lower. The live standup also is difficult to scroll thru each gag so it's kind of klunky to use.
