The flash card activity works again and the menu screens are cleaner. I hope you keep updating as I find this app to be one of the best for speech therapy treatment. ### 4/5 — I use this app constantly…but *2024-09-24* I love this app for teaching vocabulary to multi-lingual learners and to help my clients practice high-frequency sight words. I just wish it was more intuitive to use and that questions could be submitted for answering. Videos would be helpful, too. It will send messages saying I can’t access user stats because my account isn’t synced. But it is. It won‘t let me reset user stats. Creating classrooms…I have lots of input about how to make it more efficient. All of that said, I do use the app daily. It does what no other app does. I recommend it to other educators. I had written a negative review. I finally received support from the developer. While my issues have not been entirely resolved, I have been able to create and use boards that are customized to my client’s goals and are very motivating. My problem is that it continuously kicks me and my students out either during creation or during activities. It’s very frustrating for me and especially my students. **Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. Mike ### 3/5 — Neat app but... *2020-01-10, version 37.2.22* If I have to be honest, I have to say that I love the idea of being able to have different games but... the app is frustrating and confusing... I tried to click on the star for favourite but it tells me that I have to creat my own account. I thought I already paid sixty bucks for this app. Also, I cannot crop any pictures when I create my own board and if the word is too long, it adds a hyphen which is too confusing for some students to read and there is no font size options. The boards I created gets lost with other boards that I joined in. It would be nice to be able to create on the desktop (faster to create, easier to type, better access to my image folder instead of using Dropbox and be able to use the mouse) and then transfer files to the app. I hope I’ll get my money worth once I get into this more. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Deal breaker bugs *2024-07-21, version 40.7* I’m a long time user and while there is so much potential, there are still bugs/crashes that are dealbreakers. Currently I’m experiencing a Dropbox 409 error when trying to import boards from Dropbox. The developer updated it and started to require subscriptions, so I lost a lot of features that came with the full purchase. I bought a new iPad and lost everything! I can't seem to download more than 3 boards from my catalogue. It's very frustrating. ### 1/5 — UNUSABLE *2020-02-04* I suppose if you are looking for pre selected lists this may be helpful. Or if the only words you need to study are basic K-2 This is the only way I can imagine the amount of positive reviews it has received. Trying to study for your spelling list at school or creat your own is a disaster of time suckage. In theory, to add words specific to you or your child, add a picture, add a description and have a test plus games would be amazing! In reality you will add words, pictures and boards just to find that they disappear. I have spent hours trying to create lists only to have them revert back to empty or the default (bizarre) picture. The app crashes every 15 min or so and locks up periodically. Trust me I have tried everything! Like I said, if it worked it would be great! Unfortunately the program is just not there. This goes for all Bitsboard apps, I have tried several in past years, upgraded to PRO several times to no avail. Don’t do what my family did, we wasted many hours and money. Tried again this week (2/2/20) to set up a board, spent at least 2 hrs, only to have the board disappear then reappear with half the words and back to the “default” pictures. Also on several games the audio does not work. **Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. I am so sorry to hear that you were still experiencing some problems with the app as of 2/20/2020. It is the only app that offers different practices with the same learning sets. We use it to teach code and languages. We appreciate their being a student app without in-app purchases. Since we work with remote students we are happy to be able to push changes to the content on students devices remotely, and also to login as students to see what they see when they are using the app. The developer has been responsive to some requests and the app has always been updated with each OS update. The presence of a time stamp on the score cards is extremely useful for educators to see not just completion and accuracy but also the time it took for the student to complete the task. Some learners simply need more time and understanding the time to complete a task allows us to adjust to the students needs. ### 5/5 — Best App for Speech Therapists *2024-01-19* I just want to thank the developers for continuing to update this app. I use it everyday during my therapy sessions. I don’t know what I would do without it. Many times a few minutes before a session I’ve decided I want to work on a new sound I’ll go to Bitsboard and come up with the flashcards I need. What a great tool! ### 5/5 — A Teacher’s Best Friend *2023-08-03, version 40.3* I continue to applaud the developers of this app. I have been using it for years and it is flexible, easy to personalize, and endlessly engaging for students. ### 5/5 — Best ELL & Special Ed app out there! *2023-02-26, version 40.3* I agree with previous reviews that this app had huge issues a few years back. It WAS glitchy, crashed a lot and was very frustrating. Fortunately, it was bought out by the new development team and I rarely have these issues any more. It is by far the best app for review and help for English Language Learners or Developmental issues. The games and activities make learning words, phrases or identifying pictures fun and enjoyable for students. A better record keeping section for administrators would be a huge benefit as you could keep better track of successes or challenges. I train my EAs on this program and they love it as it gives them a specific daily educational routine. It is basically the most advanced flash card system out there. Well worth the $60. The school can download the free version to all their iPads and as long as you make a Username (no personal info or password required), the students can request to join a class (found in the catalogue) that you make. In a class you can include several (lots) of boards that they can use. The beautiful thing is that if you make a class, put a new board into the class, then share it the students get your new boards immediately, without having to request it again. The trick is to make your Class name easy to find. Example: School Name - Sight Words. Then when searching through the catalogue it is easy to find. Request to join, and the administrator (using the Pro Only version) accepts the request. There are literally hundreds of pre made boards to choose from and you can download someone else’s board and edit to your specifications. Picture, word, audio and options to record their responses. Just needs a record system to make this a 5* app. It’s pretty close without this feature! I am a Special Ed teacher with 35 years of experience and run most of my programs using technology to support learning. Keep up the development Bitsboard! ### 5/5 — Great app with admirable support provided *2021-03-08, version 39.1* I have used this app for a very long time and my students absolutely love it. It is easy to create new materials. I have found when I have had any problems and contacted the developers, the response has been quick and the support commendable. It is uniquely useful as I teach adult ESL literacy students to read and write. The in-app audio and all the learning games have made it my go-to app. I wish it were available for Android as well because many of my students have only Android hand-held devices to practice with. ### 5/5 — A Powerhouse *2020-04-22* I have used this app for over 5 years, yes back when there were only 8 games, and it just keeps getting better. If you read a bad review trust me they never asked support for help because if you do, you’ll get it. When iOS 10 came out there were some pretty big snags, but they have been fixed. My students love this app. As a teacher I love being able to manage classes remotely, see usage and data for each student and adjust the content, delivery, and settings for each game they see and being able to turn off features they don’t need, can’t use or are not ready for. The app is a powerhouse. It comes with a learning curve because of the many options it offers, but it comes with great benefits along that curve. If you can teach a concept through flash cards, drill and practice activities or a card game, this app is worth looking into. It’s worth every penny if you are a teacher, and in the midst of Covid-19 it gives yet another way to engage students in learning, their app is free and you can see what and how they are doing with the app remotely. You can change what content is delivered and use data for progress reports... seriously?
